Time Spent Quilting

Some days I like to work on a lot of different projects — I don’t always get done with a lot doing it that way but it all adds up in the end and if you have no dead lines it really doesn’t matter does it.  I have been asked numerous times by readers “how do you get done with so much” I guess “how much” depends on the reader and what your view of a lot of work is.  My answer is always basically the same “I do not work outside of the home anymore, no children at home, no grandchildren close by, no pets, two people living in a house makes it easy for clean up especially if you pick things up almost every day and do laundry every couple of days” Mike is back to working full time right now and might be for a couple of years – so that means I spend a lot of time by myself – we live in the country and have very few people drop by in the middle of the day.  Although I do like to exercise and try to every day and I do piddle around outside in flower beds – I do not really spend a lot of time gardening or taking care of the yard – sewing/quilting is my main love and it is what I spend most of time at.  So that is my explanation for “how do I do so much”.

Yesterday I spent the morning at the sewing machine putting together another section of tumblers for Tumbling into Insanity – we were in for another day of off and on storms that turned into being a little bit of rain and not much else but enough that made it so that outside work was something I wasn’t going to bother with.  This is now 3 sections of tumblers put together.  It really doesn’t take a lot of time if I just stick with it and not drift off to other rooms and do other things.  Obviously I don’t stick with it for long or I would be done with it by now as I cut the tumblers out last summer and here it is spring.

Love Entwined – corner vase – some of the flowers are stitched down but most are still just glue basted in place.  I have been working on the stem that reaches out to the left side the pink flower is the only one left on that stem that needs to be sewed down.  I must have Quilters ADHD as I never seem to stay with one project for more than an hour or so in a day before I put it down and move to something else.

One more star on Lemoyne Stars – this one too — I cut out all the pieces last summer.

I unrolled the Granny’s Got Style to try to show how much I have done – I guess you can kind of tell.

Here it is rolled back up and the row at the top is the half way point the part closest to the wall.

Winter Wonderland – I actually took a couple stitches on the 4th block – not much but a start.

So no plans to go Paducah for the big quilt show – I missed it again this year – that makes four years since I last went – I better go next year!!  If you want to see the top winning quilts and have not been lucky to go here is a link it just shows the top winners but I’m sure there will be photos coming out pretty soon of all of the quilts.

I love seeing Granny…I think that in the end, this sort of quilt is my favorite, with the bright patchwork colors against a light background. Probably because the quilting shows up so nicely this way.

I think it’s been five years since my last visit to Paducah. Kids graduating, getting married, and family health issues have made it near impossible to attend. But I do look forward to maybe going next year. It’s always such a creative boost.

Havevyou determined how many rows of tumblers you’ll need to get to size? Are you thinking border or no border?

Granny is looking gorgeous! Are any of these projects burning in your soul to finish? I know that when I get focused on one thing that is where all my passion goes.

Slow week on the sewing front for me. I’m cutting/piecing my border for Lazy Sunday. No reason for me not to work on it. Just seem to be skipping days right now. Now that I admitted this I’m going to push to get the cutting done today. There is sub cutting too. May do some of that too!

Love all these–but especially that LeMoyne Star–that was my Grand’mere’s maiden name–I should make a quilt in her honor in this block…Love those purple/lavenders with the gold–very nice colors…hugs, Julierose

Your days/life sound similar to mine except that our grandkids are close by but have been very launched into their own busy lives. I missed Paducah again this year (teaching a workshop this Sat.) but next year……………………. (I’m hearing that a lot right now!) Your quilts are looking beautiful!

I love you Winter Wonderland that you are working on, is that the name of the pattern?
I went to the Show yesterday and called myself looking for a pattern to embroider but did not see anything as pretty as what you are working on, Love your work!
