Friday was another one of those days where I felt like I didn’t get done with much. In fact at the end of the day I sat down to write my usually daily post and had to wonder – “what did I do”!
I planted strawberry plants in the afternoon before it started to rain that is! Maybe I can finish that up this afternoon if the weather clears up? I am about half way done. I bought a 12 pack of strawberry plants last spring and planted them in two large pots. Then in the middle of the summer I sat the pots in the little garden close to the house and left them only watering very rarely – they had grown – this is what it looked like before I got started pulling them up and dividing plants. It is ok to plant strawberries in the fall in Arkansas – we are in zone 7 and from our zone to the south you can plant them in the fall or spring.
40 plants in this area – the plants on the lower left side were the “mother plants” I thought I would make sure to put them in one area as I had heard that sometimes they don’t grow as well when transplanted – don’t know if that is true but as an experiment I thought I would check it out.
This box has plants piled on top of each other as it started to rain when I got finished with the bed shown above so I tossed all that was left together – I think there are at least another 20 plants – maybe more. A lot of plants from the original 12.
I also had a doctor appointment yesterday to have a podiatrist look at my feet – all that hiking on our trip made my feet hurt more than usual – after x-rays of my feet were done the doctor diagnosed me quickly – osteoarthritis in the mid-foot (big surprise – not really — I have osteoarthritis everywhere else so why not the feet too) – both feet – I will have some custom orthopedic inserts made by prescription for both feet and hope that works, the place that does the work though is so busy I can’t get in for 10 days and then it takes several weeks or more after that appointment for them to be done. You can pick up inserts at stores and use them but they are generically made and might not fit your feet right and I hope to get this under control so I can get back to walking – my choice of exercise – without pain so if the insurance won’t cover them I well and I hope they help!
I got a little more work done on this Wagon’s West block. But I admit yesterday was not much of a sewing day.
Craftsy is having a sale on classes through November 1st – a good time to go look. ALL Classes are up to 50% off right now. Jacquie Gering has a new machine quilting class called Next Steps With the Walking Foot I purchased that one! I will give a review on it in a couple weeks or so. I enjoyed her first class as that is the only kind of machine quilting I do – she is very practical and has a very good voice to listen to for a class. I am still learning to be comfortable with machine quilting and do not do it all that much still.

I have custom inserts and they really help. Those strawberries will be wonderful next spring spread on toast!
I really hope that your inserts provide the relief that you need. I’m thinking about putting in a few strawberry plants in our garden. We have 6 raised beds and if we planted just what we needed, we’d have a bed or two left over. Hope your rain passes through quickly enough that you can finish putting in your strawberry plants this afternoon.
Did ya’ll get that torrential rain we did earlier this week? They changed trick or treating to last night because we are set to get more of the same all night.
Strawberries are McGee’s favorite, he wants to come visit you.

I hope the inserts will help and that’s quite a bit of gardening work that you got done there!
Hope you get some relief when you get the inserts .. when your feet hurt, everything hurts. Beautiful strawberry plants .. hope you were able to get the rest planted.
Sorry your feet hurt but hope those inserts help. I have had plantar fasciitis a few times so am now very careful about shoes I buy. They aren’t pretty but at least I can walk in my Keen hiking boots and sandals.
You are going to have quite a crop of strawberries next year. Time for jam!
It would be nice to have a longer growing season to extend our gardens. That’s a nice yield on your strawberries (my favourite fruit).
