Yesterday our heat got fixed first thing in the morning – that was nice as the wood fire was starting to bother my sinus’s – too many allergies to enjoy that – but I was out for a good part of the afternoon some of it in the windy fresh cold air and by time I got back home my sinus’s had cleared. We were lucky that the fire kept going all night, I think we both woke up to check on it several times and the house was almost too warm with it – better than being too cold!!
I was able to work more on clamshells for the Postage Stamp border. I got the next step of pressing done and taking out templates so I can start all over again making more of them. I think I have close to 40 of them done. When you take the template out after you have pressed from the front this is what it is like – you see this would be easy to press back down so it will be ready to work with. Do be careful when you peel your template off – if you have been heavy handed with the glue stick you might have to tug – I used my fingernail to ease it up. I am linking to Mrs Sew and Sow , Quilt Story and Esther’s Quilt Blog.
Here are some stuck to the wall just to get an idea of what they are like – the lower row will have a strip of another border sewed over the lower area so it will be a straight line like in the photo I showed yesterday. I know I will have to mark a straight line on the border to line these up on otherwise I know they would not be straight!
This is Winter Wonderland folded in quarters – it is next on the frame. I wasn’t sure at first if I would hand quilt it but then decided yes as I have no other quilt ready for the frame believe it or not – only one waiting in line – I remember a time about 2 or 3 years ago when I had about 7 in line.
This is the backing – I have about 10 yards of this fabric that I got on sale for about $3.40 a yard – not a wide back I will need to cut and piece.
Part of yesterday was spent getting some circles prepped for Quilty 365 – hand work this week – all of these need to be appliqued they are just pinned in place.
The area on Diamonds are Forever that I was quilting on last night — getting so close to the final border.
Yesterday when I was out I went to the fitness center and then grocery shopping – completely forgetting to stop at Hobby Lobby to look for backing fabric for Strawberry Shortcake – that is ok I was busy enough without pin basting too – I will get to it this week.
To celebrate their 1,000th online class, Craftsy is giving you the chance to get 50% off the most commonly ‘wishlisted’ classes! That class you have had your eye on for a while might just be on sale. Why not see for yourself and browse these deals before they’re gone? Hurry, the offer ends Thursday! There is a class by Edyta Sitar, several on how to use your walking foot for quilting instead of free motion – I took both of those classes and enjoyed them by Jacquie Gering, several paper piecing classes, quilting with rulers, several quilt as you go classes – all kinds of things and of course the classes aren’t limited to quilting there are also cooking classes, knitting, the list goes on.
Take a look if you are interested.

When you lay the clamshells out on the border, will you start in the center and work your way out? What happens if they don’t fill the border evenly? Or is there wiggle room to make sure that doesn’t happen? I think it’s going to look great!
It’s going to be fun to watch this clamshell project grow 🙂
I do love clamshells! And all your other projects….Thanks for linking up to #scraptastictuesday
I never follow a pattern exactly Marianne so if the clamshells do not fit evenly all the way across the border I will cut it off at the straight edge-it is ok to have a half piece or quarter piece – or even fill in with a flower or something at the edge.
Glad you got your heat fixed….don’t know what kind of weather you are having, but here in Virginia, we are slipping into some really cold weather by the weekend….our high on Sunday is predicted to be in the mid 20’s! And possibly more snow next Monday! I am ready for spring!! Some of my camellia bushes had already started to bloom, from the warmer weather we had recently, then the blooms died when we had the big snow a couple of weeks ago….crazy weather we’ve had!!
Those clamshells are going to be great on the borders for the Postage Stamp quilt! I have never tried clamshells, but love how they look!
So close to the end on Diamonds Are Forever!
Cannot wait to see what you do for quilting Winter Wonderland….love that backing fabric! My red work quilt top, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, got set aside…I hope to get back to it soon…maybe seeing your quilting progress will be the trigger I need!!
Your circles are looking great…love the variations!!
I love your Diamonds are forever and your clamshell border! Agree on the fire place – glad the heat is back on. Baby quilt is cute. Have a great stitching day.
Oh Karen those clamshells look lovely, they must be a bit like the Quilty365s quite addictive. You have so many lovely projects to work on right now. Hugs Glenda
