Flowers and Things

I had some roses that are almost ready to open and I wanted to enjoy them before we got the rain coming in so I cut a small amount for a vase along with a couple iris’s that should open in it today.  The roses are Mr. Lincoln and I have had them for almost the entire time we have lived here having planted them about a year after our move making the plant about 35 years old – a very hardy plant that has survived being moved at least once that I can remember.  Now it sounds like our rain coming through will be mainly rain showers and not pounding down heavy rain but that is ok there are a lot more on the plant to enjoy.

I put two of these pretty plants in the flower bed on Sunday – off hand I can’t remember the name and I’m too lazy to go look at the stake.  It is a perennial so I sure hope they come back.

Also picked up two Shasta Daisy’s

And a couple petunia’s – can’t have a garden without a couple of them – these were medium size plants so I hope they do well.  Sometimes I get the carton of 12 plants and they are so little they never take off good, I’m hoping for better luck and plan on picking up more flowers over the next couple weeks to add to these.

I still gaze at the quilt on the cover of this book and think about making it – when? I don’t know and what fabric choices? again I don’t know – but I keep looking at it and dreaming.  I guess from the lack of quilt photos you can tell I was busy yesterday doing housework, grocery shopping and laundry and didn’t get around to fabric until the end of the day at the quilting frame – maybe something tomorrow?  I am linking to Quilt Story: Fabric Tuesday and to Esther’s Quilt Blog.

I look at this bundle of fat eighth’s that I won last year – or is it two years already – and I wonder what this color scheme would be like to use with this pattern?  Sometimes it is hard to picture in a different color scheme – that is when it would be good to do some drawing and coloring and I’m always too lazy to do that – I just jump in – the fabric believe it or not is another design by Primitive Gatherings (the designer of the flannels I just got) – this one is called “Lakeside Gatherings”.  What do you all think?

I think the fat quarter bundle would work for the quilt. You might need to add more blues along the way. I assume you will use ink lingo since you don’t like EPP work. I was just at a quilt retreat and this quilt was shown in show & tell. The maker had used 1/2″ EPP pieces so it was half the size of the original. It was beautiful; she had used fabrics that were similar to the original. Gretchen

oh wow no wonder you are gazing at that quilt !! MAKE IT lol! 🙂

I think it would be pretty with your fabric bundle with more dark shades added in, though I do love the colors in the original as well.

Whether or not you make the quilt.. just enjoying looking at it is enough.. as one would any picture.. Didn’t the poet John Keats say “Beauty is its own excuse for being.” ?

I love the shirtings in that bundle! There is a booth I visit at the VT Quilt Festival every year that sells mostly shirting, and I find myself drawn to it almost as soon as I get there. I guess you’d have to buy more for the outer border if you make that pattern, but I love the outer border which would look good with almost any quilt.

How nice that you can already bring flowers from your garden indoors. My daffodils are budding at last, so it won’t be long now.

The plant with the blue flowers is Jack Frost. I think it’s a brunnera.
