A Little of Everything

Yesterday was Mother’s Day here in the states and some other countries as well.  Melanie came over and made brunch for us – I say us because she fed her dad too LOL.  We had a German pancake which is kind of like a soufflé with a mixed berry syrup that she made plus some bacon!  it was nice to be cooked for.

This is what the Pancake looks like in the oven – you bake it – when you cut into it-it falls flat.  There are all kind of recipes for them and they all vary in how you make them  and what kind of pan you use.  I was going to link to a recipe but they are all so different – if you are interested just do a search and many will pop up.

Plus she made this nice very tiny stitchery for me – the stiches are very small.  This is a little larger than the palm of my hand stretched out.

Does anyone happen to know what kind of tree this is – I found two in the drainage ditch area and I would like to keep at least one of them if it is not invasive but I haven’t a clue what it is.

A close up of the leave – almost tiny like spines on the edges.

008

Busy making more circles and almost ready for the next row which needs 11 of them.  Three more to make for this row and I will get it attached later today perhaps.

This area of the Winter Wonderland quilt is almost complete – I had a hard time stretching to complete all the lines so some are done and some will wait until I roll it down.  Some have asked do I use multiple needles and is each line done with a different needle – no I knot off when I move to the next line – just how I do it.  I have rarely worked with more than one needle at once.  If I can I “travel” the needle and thread to the next line but they are not always close enough to do so.  I think I have 7 or 8 rows left after I finish the one I am on.  Yes The Final Frontier will be next on the frame.  Yes I have a quilting scheme in mind and it will be simple – going around circles – what else!

Happy Mother’s Day belatedly my bloggy friend! I love seeing what you are up to each day and yesterday was no exception to read about!! I love the stitchery your daughter made you! And to have brunch and time with her must have been special too!
Hope you find out what type of bush or tree that is in your ditch. I am loving Final Frontier .. but still enjoying your stitching on Winter wonderland…
I love that we each develop our own methods for completing hand quilting on a large project … thanks for sharing what you do!

I am like you (no surprise, we have so many similarities) in that I quilt with just one needle … knotting off at the end of a row. I’d be afraid those loose threads would get all tangled, I guess. I’m curious about that tree … I hope someone knows.

Wow — look at all those stitches from your daughter — very pretty! And I’ve always wanted to try a dutch baby — I have a cousin who has them every Sunday night for dinner with her family. Yours looks high and wonderful!

Sounds like you had a lovely Mother’s Day! That German pancake sounds delicious….and Melanie’s gift to you is beautiful….her needlework is amazing! Such tiny stitches!!
The number of remaining circles is dwindling fast….Final Frontier will be a completed top soon!
The Winter Wonderland’s days on the quilting frame are numbered!!
I do not know the name of that tree, but the leaf looks familiar….need to give that some thought….will let you know what I come up with….

You are doing the circles as well. Yours are very lovely and the more of these circles I see the more tempted I am to begin as well. Your daughter’s stitchery is very good.

I just love those oven pancakes……..In the summer, we use fresh berries; but in winter I use homemade applesauce—-yum!!!! Sorry, can’t help you out with the “tree”/leaves. The “Winter Wonderland” quilt is darling and much easier to luv when it’s green and not white outside!!!!

Happy Mother’s Day! My initial thought on the tree is horse chestnut, but that’s just a guess.

That’s an interesting pancake – I’ve never heard of baking them in an oven. The syrup sounds amazing…I’m a sucker for syrup! 🙂 Your daughter’s stitched piece is beautiful, what a precious gift!

I think that the leaf might be from some kind of a chestnut, it’s very similar to the photo I have of a Double Horse Chestnut and they can grow very large depending on where you are. 100 ft tall and 50 feet wide at the crown.

Of course I could be wrong. My book doesn’t show the leaves very well with some of the trees.
