A couple days ago I got started cutting out a jelly roll for a quilt for Sarah’s Hands 2 Help charity quilt drive. I am making easy quilts – I don’t want to get bogged down in hard to follow instructions or applique or hard to piece – simple and fun bright colors that kids will enjoy and easy piecing!.
I showed the other day that I had pieces cut and I was sewing into the blocks – yesterday morning I finished sewing all the blocks and got them up on the design wall in no particular order and started sewing blocks into rows – this is just a simple rail fence pattern with colors in complete disarray no particular pattern to it.
And here the first 3 rows are are done – when finished it will be 48 x 54 and then I will decide if it needs a small border – I hope not because I have no more of this fabric – I was amazed I had enough to have exactly the amount of blocks I needed. I’m not sure what the next one will be I will decide after I get this one completely finished – I am committed to two quilts.
I will be working more on Tumalo Trails for Slow Sunday Stitching with Kathy and linking in the morning when I get up. Also linking Quilting is More Fun Than Housework —
Hertfordshire Quilt is coming along and the second side of this round is almost done. I did no work on the birds yesterday as I was trying to get this one done when I wasn’t outside or at the machine.
Mike spent all day getting my new lap top running – but somehow when doing it he lost all my email in my inbox – I think I had already answered everyone but if you are waiting for an answer to something contact me again. The email really needed to be cleaned up anyhow as I hadn’t deleted any in probably close to 5 months LOL – it was full – he was still working on it last night – I might have my new computer to work from later today – thank god I have someone to deal with getting a new computer ready to use as I haven’t a clue!!
Fresh granola was made and a little shopping trip to the store for more bananas and a run to Lowe’s to find a large pot to transplant the rhubarb in and bags of soil for porch plants that I will be working on over the next couple weeks.

Sounds like you had a great Saturday and will have a fun Sunday!!! Please share the link with the how to on your design wall… I want something similar on a wall in our new home… I finally got my blog updated so check out the new post when you have time… I am glad you are planting some rhubarb up where you can watch it and harvest it too 😀 Congrats on a new computer!!! We thought our computers were getting old but in the move we discovered we just had slow internet… will send you an email if you like… if you lost my addy there too 🙂 Kathi
I will look and see if I can find the link where I showed how to put together the design wall – inexpensive to do. Glad you will have a wall to use.
The rhubarb has been growing in a 5 gallon bucket with a draining hole drilled through since last July and is doing well – I’m sure it is totally root bound though so should be able to just pick it up and put in the new pot with a lot of new soil around it – if it grows well it does – if it doesn’t I won’t be surprised as normally doesn’t do real well in Arkansas.
So glad your computers are working better in NC!!
I like that little rail fence quilt! Jelly rolls do make it easier sometimes. Almost any color will work as a small border if you need one, although I always seem to favor the brightest which would be lime.
I woke up early this morning worrying about a half inch needed to finish the next round of the medallion quilt I’m making. Good grief! I will probably take a nap after I deal with it! A quilter’s life is not always simple.
Jelly rolls do make nice fast quilts especially for children’s sizes don’t they. Good luck on your round of the medallion quilt you are working on
That’s a nice, bright Rail Fence and nice to do it for charity 🙂
I’m not sure what my other one will be but I want it nice and simple too – so glad I got these two half size jelly rolls on such a good sale – in the end it was about the same size as a regular jelly roll I think I have 44 strips I think that is what you get for one isn’t it? and it only cost me $16 total.
Your Rail Fence is simple but sweet. I don’t really think it needs a border. Good luck with your new laptop. I never bonded with mine, which isn’t so new anymore. Yum, homemade granola!
yes I doubt I will add a border in the end, for a child it should be the right size-this is going to a program that gives quilts to foster children something that I am really pleased to take part in – I will need to save their address as I think I might have found a charity that I would love to take part in.
Mike is still dealing with the new computer today – the one I am working on isn’t even old we got it last year but it has caused me nothing but trouble since about a month after I got it – like you say – I have not bonded with it 🙂 and I hate it
New computer! Rhubarb plants still alive and thriving! Progress on multiple projects! It’s all so exciting!! My very first quilt was like your Fence Rail. It sure didn’t seem easy at the time. And I know I tell you this all the time, but when I see your neat, tiny hand quilting stitches on my computer screen I feel instant JOY!
I wonder if rhubarb will last the summer this year – it has been growing since daughter brought it in July – it did of course go dormant for two or three months and it got plenty cold for it this winter. Thanks on the comment on the stitches – I do enjoy hand quilting no matter if stitches are big or small
Your donation quilt is going to be so cute! Perfect for a child. So nice to get a new computer, and have someone who knows what he’s doing to help set it up. Enjoy your stitching today!
I think I will be getting on the new computer later today – it is in the final stages now i think of transferring data – we will see – and it is a little larger than this one – i thought I would like a small computer but it hasn’t worked out and this small one has not worked well since I got it last year.
I love all the beautiful scrappiness in these projects!
thanks Erin – I mainly work with scraps or pre-cut bundles
Nice to have a few different projects on the go so you can pick what you feel like doing!
always more than enough projects to work on – how can I get bored?
Rail fence blocks always make such great charity quilt. I really like the colors and fabrics in yours. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
thanks Cynthia rail fences do make for an easy quilt for sure
I love your rail fence quilt, the colours are great and will make someone very happy! Hope your lap top is up and running soon!
it is now up and running and I’m using it
You got a lot of sewing done yesterday, the charity quilt is so colorful and pretty. Your day sounds like mine, very busy. I started putting my plants outside and got half of them done before some showers started, and more showers expected today. I worked on my Hertfordshire quilt too. Yours is coming along, as well as the pretty quilting stitches on Tumalo Trails . So nice of Mike to help you with the computer, I too have my own computer expert, my DH who I always run to for help. Enjoy stitching on Tumalo Trails.
Mike always takes care of the computer set ups – I really do not know how to do that stuff – I can write blogs and deal with photos but when it comes to how a computer works I know nothing! I need to get my plants on the porch taken care of and still do not have my bulbs planted – I hope to get at least some of that done this afternoon when it warms up
What a great design wall to show off your beautiful projects
thanks! I’m glad I have a wall that I can use –
Karen bonito edredón.
Me gustan los edredones clásicos y sencillos para niños y para el porche
Buena semana
yes this will be a good quilt for a child hopefully the happy colors will bring a little joy
Your brightly colored charity quilt is so pretty. I really like Hertforshire too. Those fabrics are so pretty. I have a computer savvy hubby too who helps me with my new pc. I was just thinking about making some granola myself, but I am missing a few of my favorite ingredients. Maybe soon.
I’m afraid I am completely dense when it comes to computers! I love the fabric I am using in Hertfordshire too
