Yesterday morning I thought I would sit right down after I got dressed and ate and make another piece of the border for the Hertfordshire Quilt – I can’t believe how
much easier this border is going then the first one like this that I did – I don’t know what was going on in my head at that time – I must have spaced out or something – distracted and not paying attention perhaps? This one is going just fine – it must be the new quarter inch foot with the guide. The price is only $5.69 with Prime on Amazon – I got mine last month and the price was closer to $15 – what’s with that!! (so it might not be at $5.69 if you look seeing as it was different when I bought it – it seems prices can change whenever they want depending on who is selling it) Anyhow if you need one click on it and it will tell you which machines it corresponds with. So on to the 3rd border this morning perhaps? I’m on a roll I probably should before I start any outside work – rain comes in later today so I think I will still have time for outside work, I think it will be evening before it starts and then rain on Sunday so I can get the 4th side done then maybe.
A little more quilting on Tumalo Trails – I do wish I had decided to quilt this with a different color thread it barely shows up on the dark colors – but I’m sure it will be ok in the end – not a show quilt but a bed quilt to be used. The 9 patch with the red black print around it is quilted – you see what I mean about it not showing up – I just didn’t think to test the thread against all colors which is hard to do with a scrap quilt of many colors of course.
Does anyone have a bag like this for quilt project storage? This one is from Craftsy and it is called Omnigear Chevron Project Case – I love this bag – and I decided to splurge and get this besides my fabric for the Brimfield Awakening quilt which will make more blocks then the 12 I have cut from the black batik giving me perhaps a couch size quilt instead of a wall hanging. The bag is marked down to $34.44 right now – this is going to make a great travel case for when we travel in the motorhome in the upcoming years. I mainly take hand work projects with me so a bag like this should work out fine. The link will take you to see what the bag looks like inside. I used to have a black bag something like this year ago and the zipper broke and eventually I tossed it. The zipper breaking was my fault I constantly stuffed it to the gills and it finally had enough – live and learn – I will make sure to not stuff this one too full and bring a second container if needed. At least if I remember right I did get 3 or so years use out of that old bag.
Craftsy’s sale continues on Kits and Supplies through the 22nd Sunday. Get up to 60% off. Have fun shopping! All kinds of notions are included as well as fabric – some on clearance – The circle 15 inch cutting mats are on sale and thread storage boxes – all kinds of things – I just wish I could have ordered all that I wanted. The bag I showed above marked down plus many other wonderful things.
Also for this sale Craftsy Unlimited is being offered for 2 weeks for $1.00 so you can give it a try and see if you like it.

I use clear plastic project boxes for most things although I do have a few pizza boxes as well. For hand appliqued smaller projects, I just use large baggies and, of course, smaller ones for the pieces. I am thinking of doing another melon quilt or another Dresden Plate. Summer is a good time to sit on the back porch and applique! (We still have a little snow but today it’s going into the 40s. Spring can’t be long now!)
I have a 1/4″ foot but find it is a true 1/4″ so the manual says to move the needle over a bit before using. I just either use it as is consistently or make sure I’m a thread or two to one side for a scant 1/4″
the foot that came with the machine is a 1/4 inch also but it also has this big piece of plastic on the end of it which I don’t’ care for and it is not stable it wiggles a little bit and that wiggle can put you off.
I have plastic boxes for storage at home but I wanted something for the motorhome that can keep everything in one spot and easy to carry in and out
I actually won that case in a silent auction at quilt spring meeting. I L O V E IT!
It’s great for my current applique projects. Holds all different stuff!
I recommend it, but be gentle on the zipper lol. Hugs.
yes I will be gentle with the zipper – glad to hear you love your bag
Glad you found that new 1/4 inch foot – that can really make a difference! Your borders look great! That project bag looks really useful – perfect for the motorhome. I haven’t really gotten in the habit of taking handwork with me when we travel. I think about it, but then run out of time to do the prep work!
when we travel it is for 4-8 weeks at a time so I have plenty of time for it – if it is just for a day or two I don’t
Those new borders are looking great!
thanks – I’m glad they seem like they will fit better this time – working with little pieces can be a pain at times but worth it in the end
You’re so fast with those borders Karen, I wish my EPP borders were going that fast, yours look great. The bag you picked looks so handy for travelling, I always travel with a hand project too. I love your quilting on Tumalo Trails. Looks like we might get some rain today, I’m hoping. Enjoy your day.
I am surprised how easy this border is going together with the machine – I had more trouble with the EPP for this quilt and for now will try it by machine for each round unless the shapes make that too hard – that might be the last borders though
Yes indeed, you certainly need to pack hand work when you go on holiday in your motor home. And now you have a lovely new bag to pack your project(s) in. Will it be big enough, I wonder?
I will be testing it out on our first trip this summer for sure – I will have an EPP project along and maybe the center panel of an applique – might need a plastic box in the cupboard with extra pieces of the fabric so the bag won’t be packed too tightly
