I forgot to take a photo of the end of the row of Tumalo Trails that I was quilting on Sunday night before I rolled it down so I took a photo of what is left to do. Not a lot left but this much will probably take me close to 3 weeks or the end of July before I get done.
I had let Bird Brain slide once again while I was fiddling with the antique machine but picked it up last night and finished the bird in the corner and then got the hoop situated and started another.
One more flannel block done yesterday morning. I continue to play with the antique machine. I put Connecting Threads Essential Thread on the top – the thread is 50 wt as is the Aurifil but anyone that has used it knows it is thicker – I used to use it in my Janome all the time as that machine loved it – then I tried it in my Juki and it hated it. The Red Eye seems to like it – instead of breaking or coming unthreaded 5 times for a block it broke once and came unthreaded once! Progress LOL – I did try a plastic bobbin with aurifil and it didn’t like it and became a thread nest on the underside. Then I tried a plastic bobbin with essential and it didn’t fit – two different kinds of bobbins. The babylock bobbin fit in the Red Eye so I will try some essential thread in that bobbin and see what happens next. As some have suggested I will also make sure nothing is stuck between the tension disc’s by the dial. I am linking to Esther’s Quilt Blog today
Before we left on our vacation and for the past six months our dishwasher has been in a decline – we have had this machine for 20-25 years and Mike has fixed it twice in that time – pretty good for a dishwasher – it was time to get a new one and Lowe’s was having a sale on appliances so we picked one up – Mike also gets a military discount so it was like paying no taxes – always a win! I can see I already have a few spots on it from the photo and will need to polish it off! It is a Maytag.
Someone wanted to know where they could get the pattern for Daisy Chain – which by the way is my name for the pattern – it looks nothing at all like the original – you can get the pattern at Paper Pieces – I do like the original pattern but I decided to use it on the 30’s fabric that I have and really never use – it was a cute way to get rid of this jelly roll. Using the 30’s prints totally changes the look of this quilt pattern which is really pretty by the way and is from the Millefiori Quilts book 1. The link above goes to the pattern so you can see the original and the pieces.

Love the new dishwasher, bet it runs quietly.
Not much more for you Tumalo Trails, you go girl.
I don’t know about you but this hot weather keeps me inside more, which is more time for quilting. You have been very busy, do love the daisy chain and thanks for the info. Keep cool
yes the dishwasher is so quite – the old one was very loud and I don’t think I realized how loud until we got this one! Now I just have to learn the best way to load it to get everything in it – the racks are different than the old ones of course.
It is so hot I have hardly been outside and so glad now that I didn’t bother much with a garden this year. I might start to do more of my quilting in the daytime instead of evening so I can be out on the porch at night when the sun is gone and it is cooler last night I sat out for an hour and it felt nice
A nice variety ; busy busy busy! 🙂
a variety of projects sure works for me!
Seeing your Tumalo quilt in the quilting frame is a pleasure…. and also the dense hand quilting in Bird Brain blocks….Doing hand quilting eases my mind.. kind of therapy… and it is free. Your stitches are far neater and regular than mine.. at my age of 92… but it is a daily ‘upper’ Thanks for daily postings.
I would say you are doing pretty good to be able to hand quilt at 92! I know my hands will not last so long for holding a needle and hand quilting. I had not intended to do such dense quilting on the Bird Brain quilt and sometimes thoroughly regret that as I would be done with it by now and it would be in my daugther’s hands instead she will need to wait until later in the year to get it.
Great looking new dishwasher, spots and all. I love the new dishwashers with the hidden control buttons. It’s one of those “now why didn’t I think of that” inventions that would have been so helpful when my kids were little and curious and discovering what happens when they push the buttons. I’ll be needing to shop for a microwave as ours above the stove gave out two weeks before we left for our AZ home last fall. But the question is, does one buy all new appliances to get all the same color or just buy the needed one that will not match any other appliance since they’ve discontinued the colors? Pretty soon, my kitchen will be looking like a piece of patchwork. You can probably guess what my solution is and you probably can guess what Tu-Na Helper’s is. So that’s why I am using my son’s countertop microwave.
some years ago I knew I wanted all stainless steel and of course could not get all at once and I waited for them to go one by one as I knew they would with age – first I got the refrigerator and then a couple years later the green stove quit as I knew it would and replaced that then the microwave and now finally the last one the dishwasher! The laundry is in a different area and you can not see them – they are both white and will never be in the same room so it doesn’t matter!! I pretty much figured that stainless steel will always be with us and the other colors gradually become done away with so it made sense to start to replace them with that. It was rather hard to look at for a few years — a green stove, a white dishwasher and a white microwave and a stainless steel refrigerator but in the end worth it.
A lot of progress on your quilting, so pretty. I love the colors of Daisy Chain, especially the 30s fabric. I have quite a collection of it from when I visited a quilt shop in Hawaii. Did you get just the templates or the papers too, I can’t remember what you said. Your dishwasher is so pretty too, and yes the new ones are so quiet, I had to replace mine last year and my microwave last month, let’s hope nothing else needs replacing, lol. Enjoy your stitching on the porch, we were out on ours till ten this morning, so nice before it started getting too hot.
these are pretty much the only 30s prints I have other than a few in the stash here and there, I never really got into them. This dishwasher is very quite! I got the papers no acrylic templates I knew I wouldn’t be fussy cutting so didn’t really need them
I forgot to tell you, yesterday you mentioned wanting to buy some bobbins for your Red Eye. I buy stuff for my vintage machines from sewclassic.com. They have class 66 plastic or metal bobbins for your 66.
I will check them out thanks – with only one bobbin for the machine it will be good to have extras – which did you get and how do you find they work? a video I watched the guy said he hated the metal ones but didn’t really go into why
What size is your quilting hoop? I’m thinking I’d like to get one because I have another quilt I’d like to hand quilt. Last time I did it without a hoop, and it worked just fine, but I thought a hoop might be a good idea to try. I like those new EPP blocks you’re making – seems like they’d be pretty in any color or type of fabric. Happy new dishwasher! We got a new one recently, and the difference in the sound of it compared to the old one is really amazing!
my hoop is 14 inches and I find that size works out well. This new washer is so quite it is amazing – no longer need to turn the tv up when it is running!
