Tumalo Trails

Tumalo Trails has gotten rolled down for the last time – it went on the frame February 24th and it looks like it will be done within a week.  Five months on the frame and one month I didn’t work on it because we were traveling – not bad for a 104 inch square quilt.

This is the area I quilted Wednesday night

Then I rolled it down – I unpin from the back rail at this point so I don’t catch any of the quilting into the leaders.  I straighten out the batting as it is usually a little bunched up at the end and I smooth it out and pin the top to the batting.  This is not the way it has to be – this is the way I do it after accidentally quilting on to the leader a long time a go.

And 2 more flannel blocks were done.  I have had a couple name suggestions and I am keeping a list for more ideas – so far they are “Double Crossed” and “Crossroads”.  If there are any more ideas let me know.  If I stick with 6 x 7 rows I will be half way in 3 more blocks.  If I go for 7 x7 well it will be a little while still.  Linking to Busy Hands Quilts — Confessions of a Fabric Addict —

      it is a good one

Karen, I like both of the names! I think either one would be great for this quilt!
You really are close to a finish on quilting Tumalo Trails!

yes it is winding down to the end for Tumalo Trails – I think I will put the birds on the frame next to finish it is quicker – I can do that by putting it on the first and second rails and I bet I can get it done a lot faster because I just don’t sit down in the living room that much to work at the hoop with it and then I can get Fall Harvest on the frame

I’m sure it’s a great feeling to be almost done with Tumalo Trails – that is a big quilt! Is that about the biggest you can fit on your frame? I like your ideas for naming your new quilt, too!

for the width I can fit about 112 inches wide I have had some on like that and they come up to the very end – for length you can go any length you want because you would just keep rolling up on the middle roller for batting and backing and on the far back for the top

How exciting to be almost done! I’ve been so busy with my daughter visiting I haven’t opened my tablet at all this week until now. We’ve been gone every day doing things and I finally got caught up reading your posts that I missed and enjoyed every one of them. I’m off again today, but I just wanted you to know I didn’t run off, lol, like I would. Enjoy your beautiful stitching and wonderful projects.

I assumed you were busy visiting and were not checking in from that – it is so nice that your daughter can drive out now and then and visit.

Such a good feeling to have the end be in sight on a big hand quilting project! Those great big quilts tend to feel like they could go on forever!

yes they do seem like they go on awhile – I will be glad to get it done and off the frame – I’m going to stick the birds on it next to get that one finished quickly and out of the hoop – I just spend more time at the frame with the nightly routine I have going so I might just as well so I can get it done and then stick Fall Harvest on it

I am enjoying the optical illusion of “waves” from your blocks. How about calling it “wavering steps”. I know each block is square, but set together they seem to shift or waver.

I have added it to the list – I haven’t quite seen what you are seeing – isn’t it amazing how we all see things differently – hopefully I will settle on name before it is finished – but no rush it will be awhile before it gets quilted.

Congratulations! You’re almost done with Tumalo Trails! I have enjoyed watching your progress. I think you quilt amazingly fast, especially compared to me! I had a name in mind for your new quilt, Arkansas Square Dance.

I will add it to the list! thanks for stopping by

I read a sign somewhere that said “Summer should get a speeding ticket”. That’s how I feel when I read your blog. Tumalo Trails got rolled down for the last time — I. Can’t. Keep. Up!!! The quilting looks fantastic, as always!

LOL – well it is off the frame and the birds are on it now to finish it up – I want them both completely done and bound before our next trip!
