Over the last 4 days we have had about 8 inches of rain and more in sight! Sunday and possibly Monday we are in for more. It will take forever to dry out. This is one of the coolest and wettest August that I can remember. I woke up about 1 or so yesterday morning listening to thunder – so much – at one point it sounded like a loud boom and I remember thinking I think a tree is down – but I could tell not on the house LOL and fell back to sleep. Sure enough when I got up yesterday morning I immediately looked out the window and a tree was down. A distance from the house.
A close up – this whole area is saturated with rain – sitting in puddles in the area – and won’t have time to dry out before Sundays rain.
Not a really large tree – but it was the girls climbing tree when they were little kids – we had to trim it early this spring as one large trunk was dead – I guess we should have cut the whole thing down then but we tried to save it – the storm took it in a flash.
And sometime during the storm our heat pump-A/C quit working! I noticed around 9 AM or so that the thermostat wasn’t on. Looked for a button to reset and I couldn’t find one – Mike took a look and we just thought we needed a new one after the battery was replaced and still didn’t work – nope – the call is in to the repairman – maybe it was from the storm – an odd coincidence if not – it is the only thing that is not working and we did loose power briefly in the night. We will see what the repairman says this morning when he arrives – thankfully it stayed cool all day yesterday and we have the windows open and managing just fine.
I decided to practice a few other crochet stitches as I really didn’t care for the cowl stitching in the Tunisian Crochet class all that much – nothing wrong with it but I found it confusing and preferred two other stitches – I have a book of stitches on my Ipad that I had found online and I love the Tunisian Knit Stitch and after practicing a little I think I have it down and will use that one or the Tunisian Simple Stitch – in the photo the first couple rows is the Tunisian Simple Stitch and the rest is the Tunisian Knit Stitch – this is just the practice piece. The second one really looks like a knitting stitch to me.
I have been working on getting my projects all packed up that I will take along in the camper I want to make sure I don’t forget anything and I have been double checking. I decided to leave Brimfield Awakening at home – between Round We Go and Daisy Chain and the yarn – I should have enough.
This is Daisy Chain if you haven’t seen it (my name for it) – EPP the blocks are about 5 or 6 inches finished if I remember right .
And my yarn bag – the needles are in there too. I made this bag about 4 years or more ago from some fabric that I won from Vicki at Color Ways by Vicki Welsh. The inside was from a charm package that I won from something else but I can’t remember where. Vicki’s fabric is hand dyed and gorgeous!
And here are a couple photos of Fall Harvest from Thursday-Friday nights. The 5th row of baskets that will be started on last night. I had a couple four patch blocks to finish and the right side of the border then roll it down again.
Craftsy has all their classes on sale through Sunday night the 19th

Sorry your rain has been so relentless… and we have had zilch on rain.. but Sunday when we are due to travel it is to rain all day!!! lol
I sure hope the repairman can blame your issue on the lightening storm so insurance may cover or the fix is not a big thing for sure…. not fun but at least the weather is mild in general right now for you.
I love your crocheting and esp that second set of stitching and your yarn bag is soooo cool!
I am glad you are enjoying picking and choosing what to take with you for your trip… and I love your progress on Fall Harvest…. bet you will be glad when you are back home to be greeted by that and your Brimfield blocks too! Have a blessed weekend friend 🙂

we keep a high deductible, usually it is not worth going through the insurance. We have had this heat pump fixed many times over the years – we really need to replace it but keep fixing it instead.
Hope you get the rain you need as I said we have more than enough! Sorry it will rain your travel day.
It’s always sad to lose a tree – that must have been quite a storm! It’s very dry here, and we could use a good storm, so you could send some our way! That new stitch you’re trying really does look like knitting. Will you still make the cowl, but in that stitch instead?
yes I will still make the cowl just using a different stitch – I will follow the pattern for how many rows to make – I would think it would still work. Yes it was a bit of a storm!
Well, glad the tree wasn’t by your house, but too bad it was the tree that has so many memories. I agree with you on the tunisian knit stitch; so pretty!
thanks Wendy – we have so many trees around we always hope none falls close to the house – we have seen some people that cut down every single tree in their yard because they fear they will fall on the house but then you are left with such a bare place – the trees are part of what we love so they stay – in our almost 40 years here we have lost some trees and cut others but still have plenty left.
I like the Tunisian knit stitch too – I’m still doing a practice piece and every now and then I alternate and add a couple rows of the simple stitch to see what it looks like and like a variety also – I will keep practicing for awhile and see what happens with the look of the piece.
Wow, that’s a lot of rain, so glad the tree fell where it did, but sad to lose it because of the memories. I love trees and think they make a house look so lovely and cool too. The crochet bag you made is simply gorgeous! Fall Harvest is coming alive under your quilting fingers, so pretty. Hope you get your AC fixed and don’t get any more storms. We’re suppose to get some this afternoon with wind, so I hope they are quiet ones.
repairman has been here and went to get a part – should be fixed this afternoon – one wire shorted out
more rain Sunday night — ugh! I’m ready for it to be done
