Last Day at Tucson

Well we enjoyed our time in the Tucson area and I wouldn’t be surprised if we came back sometime but there are a lot more places to see isn’t there.  For our last day we visited the other half of Saguaro National Park, an Air and Space museum at the local Air Force Base, and I got in some walking at the campground as well – I prefer –if I can- to do several walks a day to break it up some – with the aches and pains shorter brisk walks work well for me and this campground has been good for that with its long straight streets.

We saw a Barrel Cactus with a blossom – most of the cactus are not blossoming right now so it has been nice to see a few here and there.  The Saguaro National Park is much smaller than I expected.

This eastern side of the park is small but it has a loop drive that goes higher in elevation so we saw a little different scenery

You can see where the rain water flows when it is running down the mountains.

The Air Base Museum – this is something that interested Mike a whole lot more than I – I looked at some of it and then when Mike went outside to walk around looking at the planes I got tired of it and found the café and got a coke and went out to one of the outside table and sat and played with my phone while waiting for him to finish up.

All different kinds of planes and helicopters

We found a nice shopping mall and I got my hair cut – it needed it desperately and I couldn’t stand it any longer – hair cut was good except she cut the bangs way too short – why do they always do that!  It will take a good three weeks for them to grow to the length I like.

I have a stack of 25 – 4 patches done and now I am back to making one or two Daisy Chain blocks.

As long as I don’t work on these every day my fingers seem to be ok and not stiffen up too much.

I have gathered up a little bit of fruit to see if it will ripen on the way home like google says it well – we will see.  We are off to New Mexico now and will be home soon – I don’t know what kind of internet I will have along the way so you might hear more from me or not until we get home we will see.  This post was written on 10/17/18 and scheduled.

Pretty views from your time in Saguaro Nat Park! Looks like you had good weather – lots of blue sky. My mom said they had been having lots of rain, but it must have moved out of the area. You’re really making progress on those 4 patches! It will be fun to see what you end up doing with them.

We did have rain off and on in Phoenix but when we got to Tucson the only rain we had was at night – but the wind!! So windy the two full days we were there we didn’t sit outside at the campground we felt like we would have been blown away!!

We’re having slow rain all day again. I can’t believe all the rain we’ve had the last two weeks, so dark and gloomy and cool, 55 degrees. The blooming cactus is so pretty, I love the flowers they have. My son works for the government and had a class they sent him to at that base. I really like that area, so pretty. Your four patches are so lovely, you got a lot done. Hope your travels are safe till you get home.

I can’t believe all the rain you have been getting Dottie it seems unusual – I looked at weather for home and rain off and on all week and next week when get home too – I will be complaining of rain and cooler weather lol and not being able to do my yard work – but I sure will make use of my sewing room and my kitchen!! I’m glad it is not raining here in New Mexico and I think I will have a good enough signal to do a blog post for tomorrow morning – we have a great site here and should be able to finally make my apple pie 🙂 let’s hope it turns out!!

I think you would love the place we are at now – decided to leave here Sunday instead of Saturday – so peaceful and nice walks too

You have been gone quite a while. It’s always fun to take a trip but coming home is nice too! Texas is filling all of its lakes with all the rain we have been having. It’s warming back up which is good but it sure would be nice to see the sun again. Hopefully this weekend! Safe travels!

Yes it will be about 8 weeks when we get home that we have been on the road. I have heard Texas is getting a bit and Melanie says Arkansas is too and I checked the home weather and looks like the week we get home will be off and on rain

Nice to read and see about your travels… I am sure you are past ready to be home but making the best of your travel time is nice too. I love your hand piecing you have been doing. The scenery you get to enjoy is nice too <3
I hope your trip back to Arkansas is uneventful and still scenic as well ! We are expecting a freeze tomorrow nite (Saturday nite) so we have been draining the outdoor water features and feeding the fish before the freeze.. since this is our first winter here I don't know if that was a short fall or if it will warm back up some for us to enjoy changing seasons!… Kathi

I think for your are it is normal to get a freeze end of October to early November – we occasionally get early freeze at end of October but more normal for us is mid November. Back to a really neat rustic campsite right now in this final week home – cooking outside and taking long walks – we have been having cool nights here too!

Did you go see Humming birds? I have to visit Tuscon every few years for these birds.

    • Karen Oct 20, 2018 @ 8:37

      yes we saw hummingbirds!

I cut my own bangs – it’s fairly easy with straight hair. I took a course in home haircutting long, long ago. I use sharp scissors that I bought at a beautician’s. My hair dresser says I do a good job, and she agrees – don’t cut them too short. I think she would cut them shorter if she knew I didn’t fool with them in between cuts, though. (I only go twice a year!)

I trim my hair off and on but my hair is all different lengths so much harder to do then with straight hair like yours – even my bangs have different lengths in them – one can tell a hair dresser only take a tiny bit buy they do not see to listen – I have to get my short hair taken care of every 3 to 4 weeks at home and when on the road I take it as long as I can then need to find someone, I have a natural curl to my hair also so as soon as a little gets taken off it will spring up a bit and be shorter than it actually is

I love experiencing the southwest through your adventure. It is not a part of the country I have visited and I have hinted to my spouse that this would be a great thing for us to do when we retire. But seeing all the cacti you have shown us is amazing, and photographing it is something I would do. Great Halloween decorations! Thanks for sharing.

it is a great place to visit and see all the variety of cactus’s that are here
