Rain, Rain–and Home

Well almost home that is – I was typing this up last night at our last campsite and scheduled it to post this morning while we were on our last leg of the trip home.  It has been doing nothing but rain for the past almost 2 whole days and more this morning too!  So no new photos of travel to share.  I managed to get in a couple quick walks here and there in between the rain drops but not much believe me.

Because all it has been doing is raining since we turned for home on Tuesday morning I have spent the evenings in the camper doing some sewing – so here is a few updates – Daisy Chain now has 12 blocks done.  I am going to look and see if Paper Pieces has the acrylic shapes with the little holes in them to mark the seam with a pencil – if they don’t have the holes but have the quarter inch seam allowance I will get them any how and mark my seam allowance and start to do these by machine and by hand.  These papers are just too tough on my arthritic fingers – I take several days break and then get back to them and after a day or two the pain is back – I think I will have to do EPP very sparingly in the future.  I will show you how I will work it out – when I work it out!!  When I get back to Brimfield Awakening waiting at home I will see how much of it I can do by machine and save my fingers!

After this photo was taken I managed to get a couple more done and I now have 40 – 4 patch blocks made.  I’m not sure what design this will end up being – if it will be just four patches or if I will add another block design and alternate or what – I’ll let you all know what I decide when I decide.

Here are a few photos from the White Sands National Monument in southern New Mexico – I know I said I didn’t enjoy it so much because it was so very sunny but the place is pretty – I only took a few photos.  It was so sunny but yet there were a lot of clouds coming in.

This path had a board walk going out about a 1/4 mile so that handicapped people could use it too.

And even though this is sand there are a lot of plants growing out here – they say the sand stays put because there is water underneath – I don’t remember what the sign said about how far under the sand the water is, but it is safe to walk on for sure.

So that is the end of the travel photos unless I find some later on when I go through them more looking.  We should be home by late afternoon and I bet I will have a post to share Friday morning like usual – we will see!!  I tend to jump back into my routine quickly and I bet the camper will be totally unpacked within a day and I will have the laundry and grocery shopping done by Friday afternoon!!  (I did keep up with the laundry LOL so that is no big problem it is just from the last 3 or 4 days).

I’m glad you showed us this group of travel photos. Those cloud formations are fascinating! Welcome home!

Yes Texas broke another record yesterday with the wettest October ever that makes for three months this year that broke records for rain….February, September, and October. It’s so good to see the sun and we should be back to near 80 by the weekend. My hands really don’t like EPP either so I understand. It’s weird that I can hand quilt and hand piece. That hurricane that came up thru Mexico had a lot of moisture with it!

Texas doesn’t usually get so much rain must make it seem like you are back in Arkansas- me too can hand piece and hand quilt just fine but holding pieces for EPP makes my hands ache

White Sands looks beautiful in a very unique way! We haven’t visited there yet. You’re making great progress on those 4 patches! Happy homecoming, too. Sounds like all that rain is making home sound really good right now.

Rain rain go away!! I’m tired of it seems like half of our trip we had rain – if you get to white sands remember sun glasses and sun screen I can’t do without those (and water of course)

I can tell you are so happy to be almost home. I saw that all this rain we have been having is moving into Arkansas and hope you get home safely. We had another two inches of rain yesterday and are supposed to be sunny by the weekend, even though it’s still dark and cloudy today. You got a lot of stitching done, pretty patches and blocks. I understand about the pain EPP can cause, I do mine only a little while in the evenings, so my Herfordshire quilt is moving alone slowly. Enjoy being back in your home.

We had rain for 1 and 1/2 days and then rain again awhile this morning but stopped now that we are stopping for lunch. I wonder at what point your Hertfordshire quilt is and if I can catch up to you! We are still about 4 hours from home let’s hope it doesn’t start raining again

Gorgeous blue skies – interesting clouds always add so much to a photo too. Safe travels as you head home. Unpacking the rv is a bittersweet thing – the trip has ended but yet it is good to be back home. Looking forward to seeing your Brimfield blocks. My own is all together but hand quilting on it is very slow…perhaps more this winter.

the trip is done and I’m glad! lol really I was ready to come home weeks ago but Mike had it in his head it had to be 8 weeks on the road – I was ready to come back and be home!

If you had not informed us otherwise, I would have thought that was SNOW! So glad you are done traveling, as I am sure you are as well. Now that you are home, and catch up on laundry, quilt processes can work better. I missed my fabric and sewing machine while away for 2 weeks, and I only sew once a month! Living in such a small space it just isn’t accommodating to my quilt making.

I thought that on the photo as well! it was so white and bright. I am pretty much back into my routine already – and you are right it is hard to get into a sewing routine when you travel in a small space – I’m so glad that I have always done a lot by hand so I can do that when we travel
