Ciera’s Quilt is just about done – I have half of the final border left to do – 2 nights? The quilting actually showed up for a change! I finished the scarf that I showed yesterday but I need to get all the ends woven in on both scarfs so maybe they will all be ready to mail off when the binding is done on this one. I have more yarn to practice with and I guess seeing as I have all the scarfs made given away I need to practice one for myself now. I need to look through the yarn box and see what has accumulated the last couple years. I want to practice a little more before I look the sweater pattern over and get started on that one.
Seeing as this quilt is just about done and ready to get off of the frame in a couple days it is ready to get the backing ready for the next quilt. I got this backing fabric on the Black Friday sale from Craftsy – I got it $4.40 a yard – I did much better yesterday I got fabric for the mystery quilt back for $3.00 a yard – I guess I should have waited on the red fabric I could have found another for 2.40 to 3!! This next quilt is the Retro Airship Propellers and I’m not quite sure how I will quilt this one yet but I’m sure it will come to me when I get it on the frame – it is big and will take me 4-6 months I’m sure. It has a very wide border so I need to look at stencils again and see what I have. I am linking to To-Do-Tuesday Stitch all the Things and Free Motion By the River today
I love finding fabric for those large backing pieces when they are on sale for so low of a price. Today I need to lay out the fabric in long pieces on the floor first to cut to about the size I want – then I take it to the cutting mat to square up and then press if needed and sew the long seams together. I should get my Bonnie Hunter ruler that I ordered today and then I can get back to the mystery quilt – I wanted to get those bonus hst’s cut right so I waited. I find it easier to measure and cut those long pieces on the floor rather than struggling with it on the cutting mat.
What will Day 11 of the Craftsy sale bring us I wonder – I got the backing fabric for the mystery quilt yesterday – well there be anything today to save money on? I’m sure there will be for someone!! Make sure to look and see if you need to use a code sometimes you do sometimes you don’t – it is on the sales page normally.

The border on Ciera’s quilt looks wonderful! I really like the flower in the corner. The backing for your Airship Propellers is pretty! I need to find some backing fabric for my bird quilt top that I finished awhile back – I would really like to get a wide backing fabric for it, but haven’t started looking yet. Do you think Craftsy sells wide-backings?
I don’t think they carry them, I don’t recall ever seeing them listed. I prefer wide backs if I can find them on sale but not there – I think Hancock’s of Paducah carry’s them and Back Side Fabrics does too I have ordered from both of them.
Your quilting on that border is just wonderful! It really shows up good, so pretty. I like that backing for the next quilt too, and at $3 a yard it was quite a buy. I saved a lot of money for my DH again on Craftsy, lol. I told myself that I’ll just take a look at the quilt kits one last time, and I was doing good until I got toward the end. I saw the Glowing Lone Star and caved. I’ve always wanted to make one and this one had such beautiful fabric in it so I got it at 50% off, $79. I’m going to applique some beautiful flowers in the empty white spaces. I want to thank you for putting the links up to make it so easy to go to the sales, with my free shipping I saved a lot. I certainly got my money’s worth with my membership! Have a wonderful stitching day.
another kit! wow you will have your work cut out for you for the next couple of years with all the kits that you have. I’m so glad that you have been happy with your subscription and free shipping is such a plus isn’t it. Adding applique to the white spaces in the Lone Star sounds like a wonderful idea
Your quilting is just beautiful! How exciting to have the finish in sight too. Way to go on getting that backing fabric for such a great deal! wow!
thanks! I am glad to have this quilt done (yes done) and get the next on the frame soon
In a reply to Diann’s question about wide backing fabrics, Connecting Threads carries a fairly large selection of these, and now and then they will be on sale. I love their fabrics, so smooth and 100% cotton.
that’s right I forgot they have wide backs too – I have gotten several over the years
Ciera’s quilt has gone so quickly! She’s going to love it.
yes I think she will like cuddly up with this one while she watches Netflix or is on the bed with her studies!
Oooh, I love the quilting on the border of Ciera’s quilt — especially the little flower in the corner! There are lots of examples of that propeller block quilted on the internet since Jen Kingwell has her Steampunk pattern out of that block. I love it — it’s so fun!
yes I’m sure there are tons of ideas out there. I’ve never referred to my quilt as steam punk – there are so many in quilt land and prefer to go with the old fashion pattern from the 30’s which was called Air Ship Propellers – they really look like them don’t they
