Hexies and The Garden

We are getting apples on our apple tree – I wonder how they will be this year!  The tree is covered in them – and this is just one little section!

And there is a large cluster of snowdrops where I didn’t  remember planting them – but I had dug some things up two years ago and transplanted and got tired of digging holes and dumped a lot of stuff near a ditch where they are and that is most likely how they got there – when they are done flowering I might dig them back up and put them under the Weeping Cherry Tree as I have some others growing there right now.

Here is our first Iris – I will have more soon – but in a different area – this is the only bud I saw in this area.  And here I am looking at all these beauties growing and my Wisconsin daughter Jessica tells me that she heard on the news that they are to get somewhere between 5-10 inches of snow today! Oh my – at least the next day it should be back in the 50/60’s so it should melt right away – sounds like winter in Wisconsin doesn’t want to go away!

I was busy with hexies again yesterday and I am now down to just the mustard color ones.  All of these need to be marked for seams so I know where to start and stop.  These and four more are what is left to mark and sew in clusters before I get started putting them all together randomly in a top.

The sun was coming in a bit here creating shadows – I put three clusters together by machine so I could start to see what it will look like.  The cluster are a little harder to do by machine but not real hard.  That is because it is more to hold on to and because I like to have the thickest seams pointing towards me as it is easier to go through the machine that way as I stop just as the thick part starts if you understand what I mean.

I am left with a few odds and ends of leftovers – when I can match them up with other colors I do so – but after all is said and done I will be left with two greens and one beige so I will put those together for something different to toss in as well.

More signatures arrived – thank you girls!  I think that brings me up to 38 now.

Well, it’s 6:30 am here and no snow or rain has started that I can tell. Our forecast has been downgraded a bit; now we are only supposed to get 2-4″ of snow/rain today. I’m hoping it doesn’t put a damper on our quilt show turn out, but we will see. I love irises, and that one in your yard is a beauty!

We have an apple tree and some years we get lots of them! The birds and squirrels do like the apples, too, so some years I think they get more than we do. 🙂 The snow drops are pretty! Are they a type of ground cover? Enjoy working on the hexies and quilting on Good fortune today!

We have an apple and 2 or 3 peach trees… last year no fruit to eat maybe this year … I will look for fruit like yours coming to our trees 🙂
I love your iris’s… I have always had irises in tennessee … didn’t make it to Florida so I would love to have some here… I will investigate Lowes next month and see if they have some of the bulbs I think… I love irises too and saw some in a yard on the way to Andrews in a patch in full bloom bearded like yours 🙂
Enjoy making your hexies today then decided on a layout.. I bet your odd few don’t even show up once it is all put together… will you sew by machine or hand into a flimsy ??
I love the dew drops they are cute little white flowers! I am enamoured with learning names of the plants in our yard now thanks to you sharing names of all yours!!!
Good work on the quilting progress… I rolled the frame here 😀 Finally over that halfway hump here and on the downhill slide <3
Did Mike like your table topper on the kitchen table?? Hope your daughter in Wisconsin enjoys what may be the last snow.. I would be over it by now for sure… but I am sure she is used to snow for a long time…lol! Kathi

Your iris is so lovely and I really like your snowdrops, too. I’m so glad you received so many signatures for your quilt. It’ll make such a lovely quilt I’m sure. I’m looking forward to seeing your hexies all finished, so nice to see things made out of leftovers. I think I smell an apple pie baking already from all those apples you have growing on your apple tree, lol! Have fun stitching your hexies.

Pretty hexies, I love the way you sew them by machine. I will read again your posts about the signatures, I didn’t get the point.

Hi Karen, I’m really glad that you linked up to the Free Motion Mavericks. Your quilt is coming along nicely. Aren’t spring flowers amazing – not only are the beautiful but it means that winter is mostly gone!
