I was asked about the quilt with the purple stars that the sweater is next to on the couch – I made that one in 2015 – it is a Lemoyne Star pattern and is 70 inches square – hand pieced stars and hand quilted. Looks like I need to unfold it once in awhile and get those fold lines out! Time to put it in the wash and do that – get it good and wet and wash and dry and it will be like new again.
And I put one of my older quilts back on the bed yesterday this one was finished in 2011 and is called “Going in Circles” – my pattern of which is made up and nothing written down! This was made up of 2.5 inch squares I think and done in four patches 2 color and 2 white – and alternated randomly with circles –
The border
By quilting around each circle and then pulled the thread a little tight before knotting off I was able to give it a puffiness which shows up nicely.
Now yesterday I finished making my log cabin spiral blocks for the border on Crossroads – I have one border sewed together and ready to stitch tomorrow – the quilt is folded in half on the floor as I didn’t want to move furniture and I was checking length it is too long and will need one “log” taken off of each side to fit right I believe but I will measure again today before I do anything with it. Right now the plan is to use the left over brown for a binding. I didn’t quilt on Good Fortune Wednesday night so no new photo there. I walked over to the apple tree last night to see if the storm knocked off any of the apples – there were a few fresh ones on the ground but not many – I sure do hope these ripen before the first week of September when we plan to travel.
Roma tomatoes – I have about 9 tomato plants I think I have forgotten and about 6 of them now have tomatoes on them.
The day lilies – most are here and I have not been able to get in there to get all the weeds out because of the high humidity and heavy rains this spring I have just let it go – you can see to the left of the photo the puddles of water from yesterdays rain – thankfully we are not to get rain for another 5 days or so I do hope all of this dries out quickly!

What clever quilting on the Going in Circles. I love that the circles puff, great quilt. In Michigan, we have only had five days in May with no rain. Wet and soggy here too.
it is a very wet year for sure isn’t it. All over there are storms of one kind or another! I love my going in circles quilt it was well worth the work!
We will take some of that rain here in Florida. It has been a very dry May, and I am having to water every day, sometimes twice a day to keep my flowers alive.
and here and so many other places it is too much rain
Love the going in circles quilt…great design! Wonderful way to show off your fabric collection. Your plants are doing well. We fight an uphill battle with the weeds too. We will be tackling them again this afternoon. Mulching will happen soon. You have made quick work of the border on your next hand quilting project. Have a great day!
I don’t think I will ever get caught up on the weeds this spring! I have got some mulching done but not all it has just been too wet to work in at times. Thanks on the circle quilt – it was a fun one to make
The Lemoyne Star quilt is beautiful, Karen, and so is Going in Circles! I love the design and all the fun color – a great summery quilt for your bed. How great to have those tomatoes growing like that – we are much slower here, but do have a few blossoms starting. Weeds are definitely hard to keep up with – a constant battle around here, too.
the stars were made from a couple charm packages of batiks that I had – and the circles on the other one was made from 2.5 inch mini charms that I collected several packages of every month
Oh I do love seeing your quilts. They all appeal to me so much. So inspired to think of knotting tighter around the circles to make them a little puffier.
Your garden is really coming along too; love to see growing things as well. Hope it’s a great weather weekend for you!
thanks – I had the thought to tighten around the circle on a different quilt made previous and it made it look like puffy – I’m glad I remembered that when I made this one with the many, many circles in it.
Love your Going in Circles quilt, lots of scrappy fun there. Pieced borders require fiddling, but they are so worth it. Happy stitching this weekend. Enjoy the dryer weather.
thanks – yes pieced borders can be a pain at times – I hope I can get this one to work – I think it will
Oh Karen, your stars quilt is so beautiful, I remember it now when I saw it spread out, and that Going in Circles quilt is too. Your quilts make me want to make them, but I have too much going on now with our upcoming move. I love it when you bring out your previous quilts, I so enjoy seeing them again. You give us so many good ideals, plus that tip about pulling the thread tight around the circles is pure genius. What a good crop of apples you have there and your tomatoes and flowers look so healthy too. We’re getting some rain this morning even though they said it was out of here. Have a wonderful and maybe sunny day!
thanks Dottie – I do love some of my old quilts and others I have hardly looked at LOL I guess we all have favorites. I can totally understand you having a full plate going on right now with your upcoming move – you all must be packing and packing!
The LeMoyne Stars is fabulous and Going in Circles is so cheery! I’m always partial to curves in quilts. The log blocks are going to make a lovely border.
I love daylilies and lilies. Yours are so pretty – weeds or not.
thanks Michelle – I hope I can get the weeds under control one day LOL
Such a fun post today Karen… I have been so busy this week it seems this is my first stop in here! lol
Rick has plantar fasciitis in his left foot and still a dull occasional ache in his replaced r hip and we have been dealing with that this week and deciding if it was fasciitis or a fracture.
I wish we would get rain here… since our last rain at the beginning of the month we have been dry as a bone here… clouds up but misses us before we get any! I love your going in circles quilt… I have never seen it and really like it 🙂 I love seeing your garden and maybe if the apples aren’t quite ripe by your trip to somewhere in September you can let them ripen in the window when you are parked somewhere 🙂 Didn’t that work with lemons or something last year???
Hope you are done with rain for a while and hope some quilting happened today.. love the border you are sewing on your quilt top up next too 🙂
Kathi
I have no idea if apples ripen that way Kathi – would have to read up on that. sorry your honey is having foot problems – no fun there. And you are missing all the rain – wow – I don’t know if that is lucky or not – we all need some – just not as much as we are getting here this year
Thank you for letting me know you updated showing the star quilt, all three you have shown are really lovely. Lucky you have lilies already, they are my favorite. I check mine daily and expect a bloom any day but nothing yet. The rain is relentless here in Illinois as well. We are experiencing the 2nd highest flood since ’93 and some are thinking it will surpass that level.
I heard you all are getting flooding there too – wild weather year for sure! the highest flooding here since they have kept records I guess – glad I don’t live really close to the river.
Oh my goodness, Karen…have I really been following your blog long enough to remember when you made the LeMoyne Star quilt? Apparently I have, because I do remember when you made it! I loved it then, and love it now!
I do not remember Going in Circles, though….. It is such a fun quilt! And I love the border! You always have such good ideas for what to do for your quilts’ borders!
We are supposed to get a bit of rain tonight, and some storms too, but I think the worst of it is supposed to pass to the south of us. I hope your area dries out soon!
Hope you get a good crop of apples this year! I love apples and so does Mike, my husband, so I try to get them into our menu as much as I can. I am always on the lookout for recipes using them!
You know I was looking for some Christmas fabric scraps recently that had gone missing? I found them this afternoon! And when I found the box they were in, I remembered putting it there, so I wouldn’t forget where it was!!
That is a lot of circles on your quilt. And well done.
I used to know how many circles where in that quilt 🙂 I have forgotten now
I too enjoyed seeing your quilts. So many great patterns!
thanks Shasta – there are a lot more quilts in this house!
