Yes you all know me – one quilt off the frame and the next one is on it! Yesterday morning I worked all morning loading Crossroads on to the frame and got it done and wow does it take up all the space – can’t go any bigger than this on here.
I looked over my stencils and I think I have two that will work out for those open spaces – which you might notice are different sizes – when all the individual blocks were sewn together I found that they created a larger open space.
The two stencils are different – but go well together – the stencil work will be in the darker brown thread that I showed yesterday and the lighter thread will be used in the darker colors.
I picked out this red from the shelf of fabric to make the binding for Good Fortune and I will get started on that this week. Linking to Creative Compulsions — My Quilt Infatuation —
Seeing as the quilt frame was empty on Tuesday night I worked on a row of scrappy flannel hexies – I really do need to get this project off of the design wall so before I start prepping more applique for Morning Glory like I said I might or working on any other already started project I need to get those hexies out of the way. I had thought of not making as many rows and making what I had longer but in the end I decided to just do as I had been doing and then go from there on deciding a background and fall applique on the ends or all around – I will decide on that after I get all the rows connected. None of the rows are connected right now it just looks like it as I have them overlapping on the wall to get a feel for how they are. Right now as this is planned it will be about 50 x 38.

So exciting to be starting a new quilt on the frame! Those stencils do look great together. Do you hand quilt all of your quilts?
pretty much Gail – I do occasionally machine quilt a smaller quilt or table runner but almost all of my big quilts I have hand quilted and if I haven’t and machine quilt it I don’t feel the same connection to it LOL and rarely use the machine quilted ones!!
Those stencils are great. Do you have difficulty finding what you want in a stencil in the right size for your projects? Do you have a local shop that carries a wide selection or have you amassed a large collection of them yourself? I’ve tried ordering them online in the past but even though they tell you dimensions, once I received them and laid them on my quilt they were either a little too big or a little too small to look nice. Have you ever made your own stencil? Happy Brand New Quilt On the Frame Day!
yes I find it hard to get a stencil that works exactly how I want it to – I have no local shop to look at stencils and I always need to order them or buy when traveling – I have a collection of stencils from my many years of quilting and some of them have never been used as I thought I would use them and then didn’t care for them as much as I thought I would so I am much more careful now of what I buy in that. I have rarely ever made my own stencil. I do tend to do more straight lines with a ruler then using a stencil. I did a short spell of advertising for The Stencil Company many years ago on my blog (https://www.quiltingstencils.com/) and instead of them paying me they let me choose a ton of stencils and I wish I would have thought that through clearer as there are some that I have not used still.
Crossroads looks all set to go, and the stencils will be pretty in the open spaces! Are quilting straight lines, too? It will be fun to see how your thread colors look on the fabrics. Choosing the thread color is always a hard decision for me. I’m going to try a pale yellow on my Beothuk Star because that’s the background fabric color. Hopefully, it won’t stand out too much in the darker colors!
Yes I am filling in with straight lines too – I was experimenting with it last night to see if what I thought I would do would work out and I think I will stick with it and not taking any stitching out
Yay on the Good Fortune finish!! Can’t wait to see it on the bed. And I like the plan for the crossroad top.
I hope to start the binding later today for Good Fortune – I’m afraid my creative time today has been spent washing some of the windows!! and cleaning fans
I hadn’t noticed that the white spaces on Crossroads are 2 different sizes. I guess at this point my eye is drawn to the “roads.” That will change once they are quilted though.
The red you chose for the Good Fortune binding is going to look wonderful!
I’m really liking the flannel hexies now that it’s starting to shape up.
I hadn’t really noticed the spaces being different sizes until I took it out a couple weeks ago to work on the border and I was thinking of how to quilt it then – I had just never noticed. Yes I think a red binding will look good – I must get busy cutting it this afternoon
Those stencils will be perfect on this quilt.
thank you Vicki – I think they well work out – not as many tiny lines as the previous quilts feathers had
