It Was a Beautiful Day

We ended up with four inches of rain on Sunday and after a very hot week it really didn’t feel that bad so it was a very welcome relieve yesterday when the temperature barely hit 80 – so I was outside and not a lot of sewing got done.

I had my audio book going and got one row of hexies attached while on the porch enjoying the morning when it was still in the 70’s! then I enjoyed the porch more later in the day with my kindle.

The hexies on the table – I have 5 more rows I think to attach – I don’t know if I will use them all – we will see and I’m beginning to think I won’t add any applique and just get this topper finished – this is wider than the photo I showed the other day.

Playing with more ideas for the Dresden’s and I saw a photo on Pinterest that showed the small ends being pointed too so I thought I would try that – these are not all sewn together – just laying there I need to add in more colors – this was just playing with it last night before I forgot about the idea!

Quilting on Crossroads from Sunday night and this end is where I picked up on last night.

Also while listening to the audio book yesterday I have the sweater sleeve almost done – I made the cuff which I am attaching to it – I made the cuffs separately as I couldn’t understand the instructions they had for doing it all in one piece.  I will show it again when it is finished.  Linking to Esther’s Blog today and To-Do- Tuesday –

We finally hit 80 yesterday after being in the 50s with rain all weekend. It was a very strange start to summer! Those hexies look just great on your table – I can see why you might stop there! That’s an interesting way to finish the inner part of the Dresdens, too – would you add any kind of center for the flower? Did you find a good book to listen to? I’m always interested in what people are listening to/reading!

you would lay the center of the plate over a circle that is larger than it is and reverse applique the Dresden Plate to the center – or you could just applique the entire plate down to your background.
Right now I am just getting my audio books from my library and they do have wait lists for anything new so I have listened to two older “Harry Bosch” books by Michael Connelly and I when I get done with the one I am listening to now I have one downloaded by Sandra Brown – I sometimes like hers but not always so we will see
I’m getting tired of the hexies so I am seriously considering an end to this one even though I have 5 more rows made

Oh I love the little pointy ends on the Dresden Plate!!!
I gotta try that with a little circle of color underneath it I think…
I do not often comment because so many of my comments get lost in the either so to speak but I check out your progress daily and so enjoy what you create.
    Hope this makes it thru.

that is what I intend to do with the plates that I do the small ends pointy also – I will put a piece in back for the center and applique the ends down to it. Always feel free to leave a comment – I read them all and try to respond to all

I’m glad you had a nice cool day to enjoy, we did too. After the hot temperatures of last week, the 80s are nice for this week. We’re suppose to have thunderstorms today again so it will be nice outside till then. I finished my outside work and now have to start on the inside again. Your hexie runner looks great on your table and I like the look of the pointy Dresden’s too. My gosh, your quilting is really coming along, soon you’ll have another finish. I wonder if you’ll get done before you leave on your annual trip? Enjoy your reading and quilting today.

back to humid today so glad yesterday was nice! I don’t know – I’m not really sure when we are leaving this year – the camper needs some work done on it and we always have to bring it somewhere as we have no place local for this one – maybe September if all goes well

I love seeing your beautiful stitches! Looking awesome

    • Karen Jun 25, 2019 @ 14:49

      thanks Carla

Everything is coming along so well. I love your hexagons, it would make a beautiful lap quilt!

    • Karen Jun 25, 2019 @ 14:51

no lap quilts here – well I should say no more – I just rarely use them so I rarely make lap size – I will make small ones for the table or wall but not lap size

Yay for cooler weather! I had to laugh – you got 4 inches of rain in a day, and that’s how much rain we get in a year.

The hexie tablerunner is growing fast!

Interesting about making the Dresdens pointy on both ends. I haven’t seen that before.

    • Karen Jun 25, 2019 @ 19:42

I had not seen them pointed on both sides – Pinterest – you see every thing there! thanks for the link to the sleeveless top – I have an account there and although that one is not my style I will look and see what else they have

    • Karen Jun 25, 2019 @ 19:45

our average rain is 50 inches a year – somehow I bet this year will go down at double that!

Hi Karen! Oh man, we had a ton of rain on Sunday as well. Along with Monday and Tuesday, but today we are promised sunshine and high 80s. It has been a very strange Spring and transition to summer – no 70s at all. Just 50s to 80s. Nothing you can do about it but enjoy what we’re given. Hexies on the porch sounds inviting to me! Enjoy! ~smile~ Roseanne

I know what you mean – the rainy season this year started in October and hasn’t quit! we to seem to be going weird with temeratures 70’s one day or two and then near 90

  • Chrisknits Jun 26, 2019 @ 9:04

It was much nicer yesterday without the humidity!! Today will be a bit more on the humid side, but still less than out norm!

    • Karen Jun 26, 2019 @ 9:28

today back to humidity for us – I really do not like humidity all that much but at least skin doesn’t dry out as much!

  • Glenda Jun 26, 2019 @ 10:20

Hi Karen, love that swirl you have added in you quilting, sure love ? watching your quilting such lovely stitches. Those Dresden points in the middle look interesting, that’s thinking out side the box? Hugs from Down Under where after 7 months it has stopped raging for a week ?

    • Karen Jun 26, 2019 @ 10:34

yes I thought you meant raining 🙂 we have had a lot of rain since last October more than normal but I imagine no where near what you get. I saw the Dreden’s pointed on both sides on a Pinterest photo but it didn’t go to a link so I can’t say whose idea it was but I will use it

  • Glenda Jun 26, 2019 @ 10:23

PS that should have been raining not raging LOL. It is 1.30am better go to sleep?

  • Maggie Jun 26, 2019 @ 13:51

Dear Karen, the rain the other night was a welcome relief. Especially with the humidity here. I see you got some sewing done, with the good weather, we have been busy in the garden, so very little time sewing in doors.
You get a lot done, even is it in small doses. Thank you for sharing your creative projects with us all.

    • Karen Jun 26, 2019 @ 15:07

it is back to hot and humid here so little is getting done outside and the grass really needs to be cut, brush trimmed back and I don’t want to do it with the humidity as it is – I’m inside sewing instead!

  • Shasta Jun 26, 2019 @ 16:20

I really like the colors you are using for the dresdens.

    • Karen Jun 26, 2019 @ 16:30

thank you – several charm packages from Boundless brand at bluprint
