Well I got a little more done for my RSC19 challenge – not a lot but the star is done – still have all those 2.5 inch squares to get to and two 36 patch blocks. I find myself just not feeling like sitting down and sewing lately. I will get it pictured with the other blocks for next Saturdays link up hopefully! It doesn’t even take long to sew if you have all the pieces cut out like I did! I guess for Slow Sunday Stitching with Kathy I can cut out my squares and work on my hand quilting for Crossroads or crochet the sweater.
Friday night I got about 2 hours of hand quilting in and got these 2 blocks done on Crossroads. Also linking to Quilting is More Fun than Housework — From Bolt to Beauty —
And the sweater grew – but I am thinking this is to be a fitted sweater not a baggy sweater – it came in small, medium, or large – I picked medium – but it said no matter what the size you made you needed 2 rolls of yarn – well I don’t think one roll of yarn is going to make half the sweater like it is supposed to do – I will be short by a couple rows I think. If I had decided to make a large it wouldn’t have been enough yarn for sure! and I dropped down a size in crochet hook!
I am supposed to get 4 more rows out of this tiny bit left from the first roll – LOL – doubtful!! I think if the back of the sweater is shorter than the front I will just reverse it and say the back is the front as I rather have whichever side is shorter be the front and the longer be the back – if it even fits that is – this might be passed on to my daughter that is smaller than me – Melanie and I are about the same size – but Jessica is shorter and smaller so it might fit her instead – we will see.
The Tropical Depression is heading our way – now right across the center of Arkansas so we will get rain – how much? who knows it sounds like 3-5 inches at least – I just hope they won’t be strong storms. It will be nothing like Louisiana though so that is good for us.
Thanks to those that order through my links to Bluprint and Accuquilt – I appreciate it – I get a tiny commission – not much but a little so thank you.

Such pretty yarn! I hope there is enough to make your sweater! I have a sweater where the front is longer than the back so you should be just fine doing that. Have a good day!!
I think I would only be a couple rows short – I would probably have the back be longer than the front and the way it is made it can be either or.
Lovely little pink star, Karen! Your quilting is looking great, and your sweater is too. Hope you have enough yarn; that would be frustrating, but I think you have some good solutions if there isn’t enough. We’ve been watching reports of the hurricane, sure hope you won’t get hit too badly.
I love my big star – I don’t really use pink much so I was surprised I had so much of it in my stash. Looks like the whole state will get rain but I think it is weakening a lot and I will be surprised now if we get a ton of rain – maybe 2-3 inches over a couple days
Your pink star turned out great! I love those swirls in the centers of your Crossroads blocks – they look perfect for that space. That would definitely be frustrating if you ran out of yarn for your sweater before you had the back to the length you wanted it – makes you wonder about the designer of the pattern and what they might have done differently. Have a great Sunday, Karen!
I’m sure on the sweater the problem is probably me not being really experience – maybe I hold my yarn too loosely although this time I did do a practice swatch that you measure and it helps you decide what size hook to use – which is why I took it apart and did it over again – I will learn how to do it right one day!
Your pieced star is lovely – that center block adds so much movement….absolutely stunning. Good luck with your sweater – it is quite pretty!
I love my star!
That star is as pretty as I expected. Great job on it. Fingers crossed the sweater works out!
I hope the sweater turns out and isn’t too tight – I prefer a little baggy in sweater and not tight – one day I will learn it right!
the sweater looks like an impressionistic sunset! Should garner many compliments when you wear it. When you’re smack dab in the middle of fierce weather patterns, maybe you need to look around for an old Singer treadle machine! The weather is all over the place!
don’t need a treadle – I have my hands! LOL – I’m not that much of a sewing machine person – when the electricity goes out we have a generator but I normally would pick up hand sewing or crochet – or a book!
What a cute pink block that turned out to be! Understandable not feeling like sewing with all the weather to watch. Bummer on the yarn…. Really strange that the same amount of yarn for all 3 sizes. Never heard of that.
probably because the skeins are really large you would only use a little bit of the second for the size small – maybe half of the second for the medium and all for the large? but one skein for sure should do half of the medium and I’m very close but it wouldn’t be enough – unless there is a lot more then I think but I will find out as I’m going out to the porch to work on it now – the weather is nice and breezy and doesn’t feel too humid this morning – I’m wondering just how much of this storm are we going to get as it seems nice right now?
I guess if the front and back are only two rows different it’s not going to make a huge difference? You must be a loose crocheter/knitter though! It’s a lovely yarn though.
I had a feeling that was the problem that I am not holding the yarn tight enough? Yes I dropped to a smaller size hook and still it isn’t right I guess – I will need to take that into consideration next thing I make. I don’t know how I could hold it tighter than I do now. I ended up 2 rows short on the first big ball of yarn so maybe I can make up for it somewhere along the way on the second half!
Love your star block, especially the text fabric background. I planned to sew this summer, but have not taken one stitch. You have inspired to me to get out in the yard, determine what needs to be chopped down today, and come back in and take that stitch!
thanks for stopping by Kathy – sometimes I sew a lot and then other times just quilt in the evening and no work on tops – at one time I had about 7 tops to quilt and now only one waiting in line that is finished!! I feel like I really need to get busy now and get some tops finished – maybe this winter? I think I have at least 6 in various stages. But sometimes you just have to get outside when the weather is nice!
I don’t blame you for wanting to be outside on such a nice day as today is, no humidity and not hot yet. Love your star and hope you have enough yarn, your sweater is looking good. You should wear it, the colors would look great on you. Keep on stitching and have a nice Sunday.
I realize being rather new to doing anything with crochet means I must learn to read patterns more closely – for some reason the number 15 stuck in my mind for the rows needed to be half way done with the sweater sleeves – but upon picking up the directions and reading them again I see it was 19 which means I ended up with about 6 rows too short overall in the plan of things! So how many rows short will the sweater be in the end – i really don’t know but I will keep at making it – maybe I can find a skein closely related in color as Hobbii no longer has it and no where else that I have found on line has it – I will take a piece to Hobby Lobby on Monday and see what I can find that closely relates – maybe the bottom of the back will have a few rows (or more) of a different yarn 🙂 we will see — not much rain so far and I spent most of the morning outside with it only at 74!!
Oh dear… I hope you have enough yarn! And I think a letter to the pattern company is a good idea! Lovely to see your hand quilting update! I wondered how you stitch that design… all the outside lines first or one double hook at a time or a bit of the curves in between the straight lines??
I decided that I read the description of the yarn wrong and it has a smaller amount of yarn on that huge skein then I thought it did – I have been quilting these hooks/curves a variety of ways one is to create it as a big S and at the narrow points travel the needle under to the smaller ones – I do knot off frequently I do the straight lines individually
The pink star block sewed up very nicely. Ugh, I hate that you may not have enough yarn for your sweater. It’s so pretty! How aggravating.
thanks – the star is such an easy pattern that when I have all the pieces cut out I can zip through stitching in 15 minutes.
I think I found a way to get the yarn to stretch! I found a skein that has the same weight and some of the same colors and will mix those in with what I have and see what it looks like
Very pretty pink star! Sorry your not feeling the sewing mojo these days, hopefully it came back this week.
Little by little it is coming back this week – I think the weather plays a part in it
