I was kind of lazy again yesterday – some days I get done with a lot — other days I don’t. For Slow Sunday Stitching I will be working to finish this 5th Brimfield Awakening block that I started the other day – yesterday morning it was still really nice outside and I enjoyed my second cup of coffee out on the porch with two projects and the audio book I am listening to
– it is almost done and then I will glue baste it to the background piece and start the applique — also linking to Quilting is More Fun than Housework — Life in Pieces —
Crossroads from Friday night – I will continue working on this evening.
I tore the crochet apart again LOL – it will get started all over again. (the photo of the crochet in the first photo was from before I decided to tear it apart) I decided the thin yarn was not going to go well with the Tunisian Crochet as the stitches (for me) take longer to grow and it would take forever to finish it so I took it apart and will be back to regular crochet maybe I will have a new photo of that in a couple days. So in the meantime here are some photos of the yard and the flowers.
My porch that I enjoy so many shady hours on in the morning mainly.
A Gladioli that seems to have grown out of nowhere! I used to have some and eventually they didn’t want to survive the winters and they were gone – I haven’t seen any in years and here is one that I spotted today – I have no idea how it showed up. It is not in an area where it could have washed up – the bulb must have been in the ground for years and maybe always had some green out of it that I never noticed and no flowers? I haven’t a clue why it decided to flower this year.
I have 3 Pineapple Sage plants that came back from last year – I thought they would be flowering by now – but still no red flowers – maybe in a couple weeks? This one is the biggest and it is huge. Maybe if it comes back a second year it doesn’t flower as well? Not really sure but I guess I will find out.
We call these Surprise Lilies I don’t know what anyone else calls them – one day they are not there and then the next they just seem to appear over night and start to flower shortly after you see the tall stems growing.
I have not had many roses this year from my Mr. Lincoln plants I’m not sure why – the plants are old but they just have had very few buds this year.
I have several wild Butterfly Plants and then saw some bulbs in the store this spring for them so bought two and planted – not a good lot of flowers this year – maybe more next year?
Well that is it – maybe I will have some progress on the Dresden’s this coming week with the humidity coming back in this week?

thank you — it took years to get it like this. This was basically a pine forest when we moved here 39 years ago – we have no decent grass the soil is so rocky we would need to lay sod and too much area to cover for that so we have a mixture of grass and weeds lol — we have cut a lot of pine trees in the front yard over the years so the hard woods could grow taller – but planted trees in other areas to make up for it.
I can see why you enjoy sitting on your porch in the mornings. It must be very cool and refreshing in that lovely shade! I like your little polka dot planter; it adds a cheerful splash there on the little table.
the porch is usually very nice to stitch in the morning and then the afternoon too hot unless there is a light breeze coming through but last week was unusually with the very low humidity – but that is gone now like we knew it would be. I found this planter and another painted in another design at Walmart a couple years ago – I have a fern in the other one
What lovely pictures of your porch and gardens. I have to start all over in my yard at our new yard, but it is going to mostly have to wait till spring since I will be busy unpacking everything. It will take time to look like my garden here, but I’ll try to be patient. Every day I still walk my yard and try to disassociate myself a little so I won’t miss it so much. It took a lot of work to make it look like this. Your Brimfield Awaking block is so pretty, and I know you will get the hang of your sweater again. Enjoy your slow Sunday!
best to wait until after summer anyhow to plant a new garden it will give you time to think about it and plan it out. Maybe you can dig up your favorite plant or two and bring it with you?

usually afternoons are too hot even though it is shaded – it is that darn humidity of course that drives me it – sometimes it is only 82 or so degrees but the humidity is so high you can’t stand it and then in the evenings there are too many bugs.
I’m enjoying the views of your yard and porch, too – glad you’re enjoying some time out there this summer! I don’t often take my hand stitching outdoors, but I really should. It always sounds like such a fun idea. The flowers are all so pretty – surprise blooms are always the most fun!
when I take sewing outside I usually take it out on my sandpaper board that is set up with a piece of felt and a large square ruler to set over it – I take off only the pieces I am sewing and put the ruler back over it in case a breeze comes up. The light is really good where I sit as the sun light is best on that end but I’m still in the shade. Mornings are usually ok for a few hours but last week with that low humidity it was great – It really felt like it normally would in September or October.
Beautiful block and yard.! It gets too hot outside for me to sit and enjoy anything, unless it is at 7 in the morning. Today it is supposed to be 106! Happy stitching!
it is usually too hot here to sit out much in the summer – this past week was amazing for so close to the end of July – I’m usually lucky to enjoy an hour or two in the morning outside.
You have a beautiful back yard, what a great view to sit and stitch with.
that is the front yard- the back is totally in the sun and we do not use it much – we are in the country so it really doesn’t matter – the front yard is fairly private too
Wow what a great spot to spend time stitching, lovely project you are working on the fabrics are lovely. Your garden photos are just lush and beautiful. Sorry you had to unravel your crocheting I just decided I didn’t like the way one of my crochet projects was progressing so I am going to take it all out and start over.
I do this so much with crochet start and stop and unravel and start again before I get it how I want it to – I’m still kind of new at getting back into crochet. The porch is my favorite part of the yard/house 🙂

Your porch looks like such a great place to stitch! All that shade must make it cool. Looks like the Brimfield block can take awhile so don’t be so hard on yourself. We all need a break!
the porch almost always stays shady other that the ends but always feels cooler on it. I just came back in – I’m surprised it was still feeling ok outside even though it is already in the 80’s out there. Finished the EPP on the wreath I was working on – will start the applique this afternoon which is much easier!!

yes it is and I have been resting my foot – did half the walking I normally do for the week – I feel lazy but the foot is feeling somewhat better – I will continue this week but use the exercise bike which won’t put pressure on the foot.

I’ve seen those Brimfield Awakening blocks on some other blogs and I really like it, but it may be a little beyond my skill level. Your surprise lilies are also known as Resurrection Lilies, botanical name Lycoris squamigera. I think they may also be called Naked lily and are members of the amaryllis family. Love your purple ones.
the melon shape are the tricky pieces in the Brimfield blocks the rest of it is rather easy there is another of that type of lily that have red “spider” like petals we call those naked ladies but I know they are in the amaryllis family also – the ones I show are actually pink but in that light they looked light purple. In our neck of the woods (northwest Indiana) we call those surprise lilies ghost flowers. Funny how everyone has different names for them!
I had never heard them called that – and how about another variety that come up in another couple weeks or so I guess they are in the same family but have a red ball of blossoms with no leaves we call those spider lilies or naked ladies

it is a nice peaceful spot – I’m so glad Mike built this porch on to the house for us years ago – I’m about the only one that uses though – he just doesn’t really seem to care for sitting outside all that much

thanks – were you are in a condo do you have space to plant flowers or make due with potted plants – that is what my sister has to do with her condo – she only has a very tiny space by her door area
