Lot’s of Stuff

Yesterday I stayed home all day – trying to not push it with my foot which is still hurting off and on – cortisone shot coming up perhaps before we leave at the end of the month?  This tendonitis doesn’t seem to want to heal very well and I do want to get in some mountain hiking.    I was still on the foot but not as much as when I go to the fitness center as well.  I might not be doing much exercise this week.

So anyhow seeing as I was home I had my audio book going – one of Nevada Barr’s adventures – this one in the northern area of Minnesota – and I got a bit done besides cleaning the bathroom and doing the laundry and vacuuming the house – somehow I kept getting side tracked from the chores!

I worked on the Dresden’s!  The border is now attached and the top is draped over the table ready for me to glue baste today – finally – it seemed to take awhile getting there.

I got my new afghan crochet kit from Bluprint today – the yarn is really lovely – such a soft feel to it – 50%wool, 50% acrylic – I can’t wear wool against my skin but in a blanket it is fine.  This will make a 50 x 60 inch blanket – colors are different than the pattern shows but that color was gone and I thought this was a nice color scheme – this afghan kit will be traveling with us in the motorhome – maybe I can finish it or come near to – I like to crochet while Mike drives.

Seeing as I have a new kit that must mean I better get to work on the light weight sweater I started – the front is getting close to finished but not there yet.

The 6th Brimfield Awakening block is ready for appliqueing to the background.

I rolled down Crossroads on Monday night after finishing this edge – and then rolled it down.

And I marked the whole width all the way across before I went to bed Monday night and this is where I started to quilt last night.

And seeing as I was washing sheets I took the quilt off the bed that had been there and changed it off for a different one – one of my very favorites – this is a “Traditional Red and Green Applique” quilt based on patterns from the 1700-1800’s I got the patterns from 2 books – one by Jeanna Kimball and I’m afraid I don’t remember the other one I would need to go search the bookshelf – maybe Marsha Radike?  I made this one in 2014 and like I say it is one of my very favorites and it goes on the bed at least a couple weeks to a month almost every year.  Here is a link to where I talk about the quilt when I finished it and it shows the borders.

Here is a close up the middle which was a monster to applique and seemed like it took forever – the whole quilt top took about a year at least of off and on work to finish.  26 tiny circles in each of those pineapples!!  I LOVE this quilt!!!  And I’m so glad I spent the time making it.

After asking what everyone is watching/listening to on Netflix and Prime (my subscriptions) I decided on Covert Affairs on Prime – it is a show about a rather new CIA agent and overall it is a light show with humor and not a lot of violence and the violence is not the main thing going on.  The main thing that is going on is the friendship of a blind male agent former soldier now stuck at a desk and the new young female agent he mentors.  It started in 2010 and ended in 2015 so it has been around awhile.    By the 3rd or 4th season it isn’t supposed to be so light and goes a little more drama – but I suppose that is to be expected as the characters grow (up?).  Thanks for all the suggestions.

Despite your sore foot, you’ve been accomplishing a lot! Your quilt looks lovely on your bed. That’s a true heirloom quilt! Feel better soon!

thanks! I hope the foot well be better soon too – I want to do some hiking!

Sorry your foot is still so painful. I think I have finally turned the corner on my Achilles tendon problem. It has been 3 months! It feels almost normal most days (even after our Tuesday forest walks) but is still stiff in the mornings when I get up.

Are you going to take the Dresden quilt on your trip? Looks great. And the quilt on your bed is amazing – love to see it!

I’m glad your foot problem is almost gone – do you tape your foot or anything before hiking? Yes I plan on taking the Dresden top with me to work on in the camper

The quilt on your bed is stunning. The stitching is beautiful.
I hope your foot is feeling better before your trip. The crochet kit you ordered is nice. The pattern looks easy to follow and will help pass the time while Mike is driving.

my biggest problem with my foot is staying off of it and resting it – very hard to do!!

Wow! I had not seen the quilt on your bed. I can certainly understand why it’s one of your favorites. It’s gorgeous. You accomplished a lot yesterday!

I do love this quilt. A lot of work sure went into it

Love seeing your red and green traditional quilt! I love mine too it’s just a classic. I remember feeling the same way about that center block. Those 100+ circles really do add so much too it! Hope your foot heels by the time you leave on vacation.

I remember we were quilting our Red and Greens at the same time weren’t we – or maybe it was when we were doing the applique – I was surprised to see that we have chosen some of the same blocks from the book.

I can certainly understand why that quilt on your bed is a favorite. It is gorgeous! Your other projects are coming along nicely. Hope your foot heals before your trip too. Covert Affairs was a favorite show of ours.

I’m enjoying the show it is funny at times but yet serious. I think I will need to baby my foot this month it is really hard for me to not be active.

Your red and green quilt is just amazing, Karen! What a lot of work went into that! Looks like your Dresden Garden will be ready to start the hand stitching soon. I’m sorry to hear your foot is still bothering you, and do hope it is better for your trip. I remember how much hiking you did last year!

    • Karen Aug 7, 2019 @ 8:03

yes I think I will need to be inactive this month and try to get it healed – I just have a hard time sitting around – I’m kind of hyper active I guess 🙂 I’m glad I made the Red and Green when I did as I have been having a hard time getting back to some of my difficult applique quilts – I have two of them in various stages in project boxes that rarely get open!

  • Michelle Churchman Aug 7, 2019 @ 14:46

Each time I see the red and green, traditional appliqué quilt I am blown away. It is gorgeous!

You had a really industrious day! All of your projects got a big boost forward. I’m sorry your tendinitis is still bothering you. I have had it in my right lower arm. It took it awhile to heal and really required that I let it rest. So I think staying off your foot as much as possible is the right strategy.

    • Karen Aug 7, 2019 @ 15:18

yes I expect when the doctor said don’t walk on it so much he meant more than the 7-10 days of “my not a lot” compared to whatever he meant by not a lot!!
I sometimes can’t believe all the work I used to put into big applique quilts and I have made quite a few of them – but not in the last 3 or 4 years for sure.

  • Jenny Benton Aug 7, 2019 @ 16:06

Your applique quilt is amazing, no wonder it is your favourite! It’s nice to rotate the quilts on the bed and give them all a chance to shine. Sorry your foot is still giving you trouble, and do hope it will have improved when you are off on your holiday.

    • Karen Aug 7, 2019 @ 16:19

Even though I don’t really want a shot in my foot – ouch – I will ask the doctor next week to do just that in hope that it will actually make it better. In the meantime I am not going to the fitness center and limiting my walking at home – I might actually make some headway in some of these started but not finished quilts and make some kits of the RSC19 to bring along with me seeing as Angela was kind enough to give me the colors for Sept and Oct.
It isn’t as though we take really long hikes in the mountains anymore – it is usually more like 1-3 miles but because they are in the mountains the tracks are very rough with rocks and roots at times . the trails can at times feel much longer than they actually are because of how rough they can be and the altitude. I did buy hiking sticks like year (like ski poles) and never used them because I didn’t feel the need – this year I will use them!

    Dear Karen

You are a busy bee. We had visitors and did not do our daily walks. Boy getting back into them is definitely taking time. Our feet complained yesterday. Your applique quilt with all the hand quilting is truly a work of art.

    • Karen Aug 9, 2019 @ 11:53

thanks – I don’t think I will do much walking for a couple weeks until this darn foot heals

  • Susan Aug 9, 2019 @ 18:36

Sorry to hear about the tendonitis. I’ve had it from big toe up my shin, took at least two months to heal – a real bummer. Hope your back to normal soon.

    • Karen Aug 9, 2019 @ 19:01

gosh I hope it doesn’t last that long for me – been close to a month now and so far it seems like it is the same as when it started! I see the doctor again on Wednesday and I am hoping for an injection even though I don’t like the idea of a shot in my foot

  • inquiringquilter Aug 13, 2019 @ 8:31

Wow, you sure got a lot done this week. So impressive! Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
