I was busy yesterday working on my Morning Glory applique – cutting and glue basting – one side of the corner is ready now on to the opposite side today. This is the last project I am getting ready for the trip. Laying on the table letting the glue dry
I pinned all the blocks that I had up on the design wall so I could pin this quilt in front of it to take a photo – I am just leaving the RSC on the wall – no direct sun getting it so it is safe to leave it alone. So I hung Morning Glory over the top so you can see where this is going – this is needle turn so all those new pieces will be just as skinny as those done last that are in the corner – today’s pieces to prep are the same and they go on the opposite side of that corner bouquet. I just eye ball my pieces in place and with the help of rulers as you can see in the previous photo. I knew the red tulip on the right side of this new piece was to almost touch the next to that helped placement. Well I be able to stick with this project and do applique all around – I hope so – at least by taking it with me it will help me get to that point.
A close up
I found a small space bag for the second yarn project – it was kind of hard to find and I had to go with a four pack that had a jumbo bag and a large one and one smaller than what this bag is. All the air is sucked out and it is flattened – I should be able to stack the other projects on top of it. I think I found all my thread and notions needed for the projects and all packed in the little 3 stack box there to the side.
Crossroads from Thursday night – I got sidetracked earlier in the evening and only sat for about 45 minutes. I had a kindle book I was trying to finish before it was due and have come to realize the last two days that I get a lot more done when I am listening to an audio book and doing two things at once!! I can’t even crochet and read a book at the same time!!
I am happy to report that the foot is doing so much better since the injection yesterday afternoon, the swelling is down and the pain is much less. I have started the medication for the arthritis pain today also and have not had a problem with it – he only gave me a 30 day supply as he was giving it to me for my foot problem but if it helps with the other pains I will talk to my rheumatologist about it when I see him at the end of October. One tablet at less than $5 for the month compared to Ibuprofen 3-9 tablets a day – it will be worth it if it works. I was able to order the elastic foot braces to wear when hiking as I couldn’t find two at the store and they should be in early next week – thank you amazon!
Now to get the camper cleaned out next week. For those that have asked about our camper – what it looks like and how much or little room is in it here is a link to a previous post for a little tour of it. That post was from years ago and we have changed the closet to shelves with pull out baskets and no hanging rods – the tv is gone and a large spice rack to hold medications and other things is in it’s place. A different quilt goes on the bed every trip we take – I haven’t decided which one this time – maybe Tumalo Trails – Good Fortune is too pink and would drive me crazy with the sun shining off of it so much LOL — seeing the size inside the camper and the space I have you will see why I leave sewing machines at home- even the featherweight – half the time I do not have electricity because about half the campgrounds we go to have no hook ups and we use the generator to charge batteries. I do not want to sew outside and run an extension cord either as some of you do that camp – I just do not find that noise peaceful in the woods. I’d rather just work by hand.

So much good stuff in this post! The applique is so beautiful! Love that you can take a project like that on the road. I have a project I’ve been holding for travel and your pack up tips were good to note. Thanks for the link to the motorhome tour too — a big “one day” dream for me! Definitely take Tumulo — I want to make that one and would love to see it travelling! Always enjoy and admire your hand quilting progress, Last thing: the (antique?) iron in the first picture — do you actually use it or is it just a project weight? Enjoy your trip!
I made Tumalo Trails in larger blocks than Bonnie’s pattern had and I’m glad I did I was able to use up a bit of stash with it for sure.I have 4 antique irons and they are used for holding pieces down when I glue bast or for holding the piece still on the table like it was doing yesterday – they are also good for book ends and door stops!
Glad your foot is feeling better. Oh my, Morning Glory is so beautiful, but a lot of work!
thanks Wendy – I’m glad I decided to prep a little more of Morning Glory to take along with me – I don’t know if I will work on it but at least it will be prepped and ready.
I enjoyed the tour of your home on wheels – it looks like a nice size! The last few days we’ve been seeing a lot of huge motorhomes and 5th wheels on the roads, and we both think we would not want to drive something so big around the country! Your Morning Glory prep will give you lots to stitch on – I agree that hand stitching seems more compatible with camping!
we had a big 5th wheel the first year we had one and I have to admit to having anxiety attacks – I am not good with big vehicles and I could not work properly with Mike to guide him into backing in spaces and we did not do good with it – I was constantly afraid we were going to hit something and told him we had to get something smaller or I wasn’t going to go.
I never see anyone outside with a sewing machine at the campgrounds we go to but have been told by others that they do this – to me it would just ruin the atmosphere!
I love your morning glory appliqué. It is gorgeous! It was good to have a tour of your van, you have really optimised the space in it. It makes ours look tiny in comparison but as we’ve said before motorhoming in the uk is tricky in a big van!
and we always feel like our camper looks tiny in comparison to others that we see on the road – except when we get further into the mountains and the national forest campgrounds – then we start to see more about the size of ours. But here in Arkansas people tend to have large campers and I think they spend a lot more time in them because if you are in the south it is so hot you have the a/c on a lot to keep and so are more likely going in and out a lot. When we head to the mountains after the first couple days of traveling we are usually far enough north and higher in elevation that we do windows open and feels so good!
Another project prepared and ready for your trip! You certainly wont run out of things to do.
and this is the last project I’m prepping! I think this makes 6 or 7 quilting projects/embroidery and one extra yarn project – surely that is enough to keep me from getting bored in the evening after we are done exploring for the day and after the evening meal LOL
That’s a great assortment of projects! Space bags are awesome.
yes I need an assortment – I get bored so easily sometimes! I think I now have 7 projects in those bags – I will not be surprised if I don’t work on some of them or just a little bit – but better to be prepared I can get a lot done in 6-8 weeks I know from other years
So glad your foot is feeling better!
I am impressed by your organization for so many projects to travel with you. The Morning Glory is so pretty! Sure but steady progress on Crossroads. My mom and I had a girls day out. I am now back in the quilting business. I bought an appliqué pattern, and a little fabric, but was able to raid the stash at my mom’s house for a lot of it. (She has our combined stash.)
the foot isn’t perfect but better. I think I have been going over in my mind what I would take with me for awhile now but really buckled down this week to get it packed and remember everything needed. You are going to start quilting again – perfect! glad your mom still has a stash for you, I’m sure you had a bit saved
Looks like you have lots of projects to keep you occupied on your trip. You are very organized! Those vacuum bags really work well to compress things into a smaller space. I love your appliqué quilt. I look forward to seeing your handwork progress on your trip.
the space bags work out good don’t they and good thing I don’t need to suck the air back out of the bag as I don’t have anything in the camper to do it LOL – I just won’t open this bag until I’m ready for the project. In the camper I have a dust mop and small broom – no carpet. I hope I make a lot of progress on these projects in the evening – we do so much in the daytime I am always ready for stitching in the evening.
