Alaska and Others

I have been asked about the quilt Alaska several times for those of you who want to see the whole pattern —  the pattern is by Edyta Sitar – where did I buy it?   I got it on a Black Friday sale (for about half price) from The Fat Quarter Shop (link on sidebar) – the kit is not available now from them it must have sold out – the only color they had at that time in the pre-cut laser pieces is the red/green that I am making.  The pattern is still available from that shop and so are acrylic templates.  The kit might still be available at Edyta’s site – Laundry Basket Quilts – she has an on line shop.

I finished Block #4 and here are the first four blocks pinned together on the wall.  Oops cut the corner of the top off – sorry.

I found a nice deep project box to keep the Hertfordshire Quilt in  – I have so many fabric reserved for this quilt it is nice to keep it in one place now – I will get back to the round that I am working on after I make my RSC20 blocks for this month.

Things are beginning to look neater on this shelf – I have a couple more boxes to get in order to have all my projects in boxes.

I am getting into the design now for the afghan called Dahlia the only place I could get the color right is in the kitchen and with my phone – the other camera just wouldn’t pick up the colors.  These colors are not perfect but better than what I had.

After taking the above photo and remembering that the phone takes better photos at times I took photos of the quilting on Williamsburg Beauty and it turned out much clearer I think.

My lines drawn on got kind of off kilter and I “erased” them with spritzing and needed to redraw lines last night before I can begin quilting again.

Our weather is so strange this winter – I have daffodils coming up!  They will go dormant again if it gets colder and then start again – this happens here frequently if our winters are mild like they have been – I’m sure we will get cold weather again but it has been mainly in the 50/30 this winter with a few short spells of 30’s to 40’s.

Now the hydrangea on the other hand – if it freezes hard the leaves will turn brown again and fall off and then come back on – I hope it has done so other years

IMG_6606

Same with the rose leaf’s I don’t think they ever started to get buds in the winter but if so they will die off and come back.

Snow drops or crocus I’m not sure which  — crazy winter here in Arkansas once again.  I bought a new winter light weight parka and I wonder why as I have barely used it – maybe 3 times? usually toss a big sweater in the car (just in case) when I leave the house in long sleeve shirt or sweater/sweatshirt and don’t even use it.

Next up to work on is the RSC20  – linking to Quilt Fabrication — The Inquiring Quilter — My Quilt Infatuation

I made my RSC20 blocks the other day – a sawtoothed star with a scrappy center and then two blocks made of scrappy squares. All 12″ but couldn’t take a picture. My design wall has been taken over by my Long Time Gone WIP. It is looking very dark to me, so I think I will need a light sashing. Will try to post a photo on my blog today.

I love the colors in your Alaska kit. Yes that pattern is expensive now that it’s not half price, plus the templates, but I’m tempted every time I see your blocks. I’m stuck right now trying to figure out how to make some fussy cut blocks fit with some 9-patch blocks I made for a Christmas quilt I started one week before Christmas – lol!
Enjoying the peeks into your Arkansas life. 🙂

    Dear Karen
It is funny how nature just knows when to start to grow and when to stop. ALASKA is looking like an amazing quilt. Your organisation is paying off, everything is in a place and everything is together.
Hertfordshire Quilt all in one container is a great idea. Need to do that to mine as well, currently it is all in a bag.

I got a new phone recently and it takes really good pictures – it’s much better with color than my two cameras, and the photos go right to Google photos so I can easily use them for the blog. It’s amazing to me how that technology works! Your Alaska blocks are coming right along – that’s going to be a beautiful quilt in that colorway. How big is it going to be? We have plants around here that do the same thing when we have mild weather. They usually end up blooming at the right times, though!

What a nice visit I had today at your blog… chatting about Alaska… sharing some yarn work… getting more organized all the time and warm enough there to be outside noticing the coming spring already <3 Your quilting is amazing on this one… the all over cross hatch is amazing even if you had to redo it… I use a eye shadow applicator to erase small mistakes… but larger mistaken lines I usually mark over with white chalk or wait a few hours after a good spritz! lol
Have a grand afternoon 🙂 Kathi

I’ve gotten the winter coat, hat and gloves out the last couple of mornings in Florida. 31 and 30 degrees ….. Good thing I never got the garden in so no covering needed. I had never seen the whole alaska quilt – very pretty. I found I never take photo’s with anything but my phone for the last few years. I have no clue where my actual camera is!

What size crochet are you doing? And the colours are so gorgeous you have captured them true to colour. It’s lovely to see new growrh coming up in the garden. I have lots of daffodils and snow drops coming up and the weirdest thing of all is the azalea that has been in full bloom since before Christmas.

That’s a lovely pattern and I can’t wait to see your version.

Williamsburg Beauty is looking lovely! Ugh on your plants thinking it is spring.

Man I know how hard it is to get good pictures sometimes! I’ve been struggling with that recently. Your quilts look wonderful, especially Alaska. The quilting on Williamsburg Beauty is perfect! Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
