More Piecing and Quilting

Y’all will get tired of seeing Christmas blocks soon and I’m sure I will work on other things as well to show.  But I got one more block done for a total of four now and I really like the mixed backgrounds.  I wasn’t too sure on this last one, I was thinking maybe it was more print then would work out but when I put it with the other ones I think it will work out

But with the others – ok or not?  I will make a couple extra blocks probably just in case I have some that don’t quite go with it and for those of you really observant you will notice that I was a tad short on one piece and put two pieces together

top piece – another reason to make an extra block in case I decide it bothers me LOL

and knitting and with temperatures getting cooler I will probably be in the house more today.  Melanie and I got in a short walk yesterday at the trails before we went grocery shopping but it was so windy that we only did a mile and then ran around two grocery stores for more exercise – really if you move fast and grab what you need and don’t be pokey you can get in more steps!  It said it was 54 outside but it felt like it was in the low 40’s for sure with that wind.

The mixed background Christmas blocks are looking good together. This will make a pretty quilt!

If you add other neutral prints as backgrounds, the one you just made will blend right in. This is going to be a very festive quilt! We had a snowstorm all day yesterday so it was great weather for staying inside to sew, in between shovelling, of course.

I agree that those blocks will make a pretty Christmas quilt. I’m not getting tired of seeing them, so keep posting away!

I love your Christmas blocks and will enjoy continuing to see more of them. In fact, you are inspiring me to start a new Christmas quilt myself!

    Your Williamsburg Beauty is gorgeous!

We often walk extra in the larger stores if the weather’s bad just to get more steps, especially when it’s windy! I really like your Christmas blocks with the different backgrounds – makes them interesting to look at, they especially work well the way you have the four blocks laid out in the photo. Looks like you have plenty of slow-stitching for today – enjoy!

Your blocks are very pretty! Even if you decide the last one isn’t going to make the cut for the front, it would be a great addition to the back of the quilt!!

Those Christmas blocks are coming together beautifully! Enjoy your stitching time today!

Those Christmas blocks are going to make a stunning quilt!! Personally, I wouldn’t bother with making extra blocks. Quilters are known for “making do” and that pieced section will simply fade away with quilting.

    Gorgeous Christmas blocks!

Gorgeous Christmas blocks. Williamsburg Beauty is also lovely!

    Dear Karen,

No one would notice the pieced piece in the block. Once the whole quilt top is put together, so you should not worry about it. Your blocks look good together. Yes, this cold wind makes it feel a lot colder than what it is. We received a wallop of snow yesterday and more is coming down today, so staying inside and keeping warm inside is what we will be doing. Some stitching and quilting with a spot of knitting in front of the fireplace is just what the doctor ordered.

I love the ‘pinch of spice’ that you have added to your quilt!!! I know that I won’t get tired of watching this one grow in front of our eyes. Seeing all four together its hard to pick out a favorite. And yes, I definitely am going to sew one of Lynn’s patterns before the year is over!

Karen, I think the variety of your fabrics just adds to the personality that is developing for your scrappy Christmas blocks…I love this pattern, and I don’t think I would ever get tired of seeing the blocks, so please keep on posting about them!
The quilting on Williamsburg Beauty is really coming along!
We are having a little increase in temperatures today, and the sun is shining…quite a change from yesterday’s cold rain… I made ham and bean soup in the slow cooker yesterday and it was so good. I stayed in all day…it would have been a perfect day for some stitching, but I had some other projects and chores needing attention, so I never got around to any sewing. Hope to get in some hand piecing this afternoon.

I love the new block! The little tulips in the background fabric is so sweet. I think it goes with the others just fine.

  • maggie fellow Jan 19, 2020 @ 11:29

If you add more interesting backgrounds, it will look great together – beautiful block

  • Carla Therrien Jan 19, 2020 @ 11:41

I love the block even though you used a “make do” piece! I really think it gives a quilt some needed character! Hand quilting an appliqued piece is so much fun isn’t it?

  • Paula Jan 19, 2020 @ 12:04

I love seeing all of the color and fabric combinations you’re using and I’m excited to see the finished quilt. Keep showing us your lovely blocks!

  • Karla (threadbndr) Jan 19, 2020 @ 13:15

I’ve done ‘pieced pieces’ more than once and can’t really find them in the finished quilt. You did a great job of salvage there. Those Christmas blocks are darling and your knit and crochet projects are coming right along.

I love those applique blocks in Williamsburg. I looked up the pattern for the Caswell quilt … WOW. (in both complexity and price!)

  • Robin Jan 19, 2020 @ 14:10

I’m still into Christmas so I won’t tire of seeing your great blocks.

  • Sandi Jan 19, 2020 @ 18:01

Your blocks are lovely! I’m loving the different backgrounds. Hugs,

  • Kim Sharman Jan 20, 2020 @ 4:02

Your Williamburg’s Beauty is amazing. Love your quilting. Those Christmas blocks look fabulous sitting next to each other. Both your knitting projects are knitting up quickly. Both look cosy and warm.

  • daneesey Jan 20, 2020 @ 10:56

Yummy colors in your crochet project!!! 🙂

  • Vicki Welsh Jan 20, 2020 @ 17:54

I love these Christmas blocks! It almost makes me want to make a Christmas gift.

  • rattie4fun Jan 21, 2020 @ 10:18

I love all your Christmasy blocks. And they look terrific all together. As for the one you had to add fabric to – I looked right at it and it failed to register with me that it was not one piece of fabric – because the overall beauty and charm of the block. Really very pretty. I vote to just let it go and enjoy.
