Well So Much for Progress!

Big mistake on Alaska – but by the end of the day I got it fixed and caught back up.  Way back on block #5 I messed up and didn’t realize it until yesterday when I was laying out Block 12 to get those four ready to sew and realized I didn’t have the red pieces I needed.  Two red fabrics were included in this quilt kit and I used the wrong one for #5!!!   Those red pieces had to come out – which meant taking half the block apart to get the points in the center to meet up as they should!

Finally at 8 PM last night I was writing up this blog post to get it scheduled – which very much cut into my hand quilting time.  But I wanted to get the blocks fixed while I was in the mood to get it done if you know what I mean.

Block #11 got done before I discovered the mistake and here are the four blocks that were ok!

Back to the wall with all the blocks back in place and only 5 more left to do.  One of the mistake blocks is just a little wonky after I got it put back together and will need a bit of a narrow seam in parts but it is fixed.  There were a couple extra pieces of fabric in the box but not enough to trade pieces out.  This quilt really left no room for mistakes.

I have not even started the hand stitching for the binding on Williamsburg Beauty as I had wanted to and that will wait another couple of days.  Melanie asked me if they could display my Handful of Scraps at the library for a month as they did Floral Fantasy back in the fall.  It doesn’t have a hanging sleeve on the back so I will work on that this week first.  This quilt was finished 2 years ago this month.

You are so close to finishing piecing the blocks for Alaska, and it looks great. I’m sorry you got detoured. The other projects will be there waiting when you’re ready for them. I love the photograph of the Floral Fantasy quilt. Looks so professional! I haven’t taken good pictures of quilts lately due to the weather. Winter is just not a good time to be outside holding up quilts! So I have to use the floor and that means the angle is off. I look forward to spring!

    Dear Karen,

Thank goodness you noticed it and could fix it. Love the fan quilting on your Dresden Garden quilt.

Good thing you figured out the mistake and got it fixed before you got too much further! That center design is really coming across now – beautiful! Your quilting looks great on Dresden Garden already. I love that Baptist fan design! What a nice honor to have your quilts hanging at the library, too!

I got anxious just reading that you found a mistake – haha! I’m glad you were able to fix it! It is really looking good!

I’m so glad you caught the mistake! It isn’t fun enjoyable having to take blocks apart ever, but these are a bit more complicated! Not having extra fabric to fall back on in case of mistakes would put me over the edge! I guess that’s one of the pitfalls of a precut kit. I hope you are feeling better about it now!

Ugh! It would be so easy to make a mistake like that. The quilting on Dresden Garden is so pretty. Really love the pattern you chose. That’s a beautiful quilt that Melanie wants to display.

I am so glad that you were able to fix those block. One reason that I rarely use a kit is because I like to have a decent amount of extra fabric for mistakes. It is really looking beautiful. I love your hand quilting too.

I am glad is was a simple fix and you had enough fabric. Alaska is looking good! You seem to get so much done!

Good catch before you finished it up!
