A Sewing Day

A little more work was done on Dresden Garden – ok more than a little for the time I spent on it.  This quilt is coming along really well.  It will not be done by the end of the month but maybe by mid April?

This is how the corners of the mystery quilt will be set up – I don’t know if I will be happy with the colors but it can always be given away if I do not like it.

I put my Good Fortune quilt back on the bed for now – need to get some use out of it.  I have no matching pillow cases right now – I should get some pink ones!

A little crochet was done but I was mainly pressing and assembly line cutting fabric yesterday for face masks – these are all turned wrong side out ready to sew – I have no elastic so will need to put ties on them – these will go to my sister a nurse in VA – they are down to paper masks only at the assisted living center she works at.

I was using the quilting frame for lining up fabric as it was pressed.  I was almost done cutting when I called it quits to make supper I will get back to work on these today

I managed to take one walk today out on the property it rained all morning again and the ground is wet and mushy in places – I got in 20 minutes and called it quits – even at that the wet had soaked through my sneakers in places and my socks were damp – it was 45 and chilly and cloudy – warmer this week – I hope for some sun – one of the close to 10 redbud trees we have growing – most are small like this one.  I made a couple loaves of bread and brought one of them over to Melanie – it seemed weird rolling down the window for her to reach in the car and take it and then step back to talk through the open window for a little bit – more of the “new normal”.

It is hard on the children out here who have to stay home now and have no contact with the other children, Aniya sent me a video message yesterday and she looked kind of sad but we agreed we need to make cookies again when this is all over and have fun.  This is going to be an unbelievable year – it already is.

I really love those baptist fans! The 3D texture they are giving your beautiful quilt is amazing!

I just love that dresden quilt so much–very pretty–nice quilting too.
May I ask what pattern you used to make face masks and how long did you make the ties? thanks Hugs from afar Julierose

Glad you are getting some quilting done and making masks, too! I had 150+ yards of quarter inch elastic in my stash that I’ve had for over a decade, don’t even remember what I thought I was going to make with it — bras? Underwear? Baby clothes? I gave it to a group of women who are mobilizing to make masks for our local hospitals. I know my strengths and weaknesses, and those ladies will churn out hundreds of masks in the time it would take me to finish just one of them… Or in the time it would take me to choose the right tutorial and get my machine set up, if I’m completely honest…

It is indeed going to be an unbelievable year! We’re going to have to do the best we can! The redbud trees are so pretty – I had never seen them until our oldest son lived in Missouri right after college. You’ve gotten started on a bunch of masks! I should do that, too – people are really asking for them!

You are really getting things done during this craziness. So fun to see. It seems many are making masks. I haven’t jumped in on that yet. Glad you are able to stay in touch with Melanie and your granddaughter, even if you can’t be with them to hug and chat in person.

Hi there. I hopped over from Fabric Therapy, my friend’s site. Love that Dresden Garden. The bright batiks against that background are wonderful. I’ll be checking in.

I thought maybe someone would mention this but haven’t seen it. On yesterday’s (March 22) blog of your daily quilting on your Dresden Garden the top line of quilting on one fan is missing. You can see where it is if you check the picture. An easy fix while still on the frame, otherwise, if you’re like me you won’t notice until it was all done and on a bed! Love your blogs… read them first thing every morning.

You are still getting things done. Love your redbuds. I miss the redbud that I use for my heading picture. It died and was cut down before we moved. Now we have only a few trees and they are all small. Good to see you are able to help out with the mask shortage. I hope to but I’m waiting to hear that they are needed in our area. I hear the choosing and cutting take a lot more time than the actual sewing. Go girl go!

Your mystery quilt is looking good so far! I know your sister and co-workers will appreciate these masks. Another quilter I follow, Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict, is making them too. Well done, my friend!

DG is coming along so quickly!

I like your fabrics for the mystery! I just got my 8 blocks for today done, now to wait until we return home from a Dr’s appt to do tomorrow’s set. Can’t wait to see what they look like.

I was hoping for sun today but the clouds were too stubborn. They promised by noon but another wrong forcast. Hopefully Tuesday will be the start of a string of warm sunny days. Your dresdan is really coming along nicely!

I am so impressed with how quickly you can hand quilt! That’s a skill I don’t have and don’t expect to ever have. I love the look of hand quilting, it brings a special beauty to any quilt.
