Country Charmer RSC20

I decided to get my aqua colors out yesterday morning to start playing with them to see what I have for the two blocks of each color that I am doing.  Plenty to choose from.

Then I remembered that from last years aqua colors I had cut some 1.5 inch pieces and 2.5 also and probably had some in my boxes.   So I sat on the floor and got them out.  This box holds my little 1.5 inch box of squares – and sure enough I had some – the Country Charmer calls for 1.5 inch squares  this will save me cutting and give me more of a scrappy look. (when looking I realized I have plenty of neutrals too for A Charming Country Christmas instead of cutting into other pieces I will look here first)

A variety of aqua colors – some light some dark, some a little more blue, some a little more green.

I decided to go with the light colors for the corners.  I had some 2.5 inch blocks that I could cut in half and then trim to size for the darker aqua.  I need to look through the colors now and pick out four pieces for #H and then get to the newsprint style of fabrics for the rest and this will be the first of two.  I hope to start sewing on it later today.

Plenty in my box of the newsprint type for this quilt – each of these blocks takes about a 10 inch square if you cut it right to get the most out of it.

Quilting on Dresden Garden from Sunday night  – I was asked what do I use to mark my quilting lines  – I use the blue wash out pen – Mark B Gone – it is not expensive and can be found at Wal-Mart and various other stores and quilt shops.  It is sold under a variety of names – this is the one I usually grab as it is at Wal-Mart and I am in there weekly it seems so easy to grab several so I always have them on hand.  I have been using it for 20+ years and have never had a problem with it.  I do wash my quilts though and I know some of you do not.  If you do not wash your quilt you need to get it very wet all the way through to the backing kind of wet!!  It is possible if it is not wet enough that the blue could be mixed in the batting so you really need to get it really wet.  No heat near the blue line area until you know it is out.  I do wash my quilts and put them in the dryer afterward and have never ever had a problem and I have made hundreds of quilts and probably have used the pen on half of them.

When I left the fitness center yesterday afternoon around two in the afternoon this is what I saw on the odometer – 76 degrees!!! yes 76, it felt like it too.  I had a long sleeve t-shirt on and wished it had been a short sleeve shirt – when I got home a short while later it was 73 that is a common difference as we are on a ridge above the valley.  76 degrees really isn’t that common for March 2nd but it sure was nice!

The clematis are leafing out!  More yard work will need to be done – a little every other day or so and maybe I can get these flower beds cleaned out and some new annuals planted here and there among the others.

76 degrees – wonderful! That’s a pretty little block you are working on. Thanks for the tips on the Mark B Gone pen. I have one and have used it without problem, but hadn’t thought about the thorough washing/wetness that is needed.

Hi Karen! We were happy with 58 degrees last Sunday, and the promise of a repeat this Sunday! That’s pretty darn warm for Wisconsin. I’ll bet that 76 felt really good especially in the sun. I can just feel it warming you through and through. Your aqua pieces are gorgeous – I love the dark in the center and lighter spreading outward. Thanks for linking up today. ~smile~ Roseanne

You have a pretty variety of aqua scraps for your RSC stars! So handy to have them precut, too. It’s so nice to see warmer temperatures and some bits of green coming along! I’m ready for that, too. I have one little crocus popping out, so that means more are on their way!

Not quite that warm here but we’re hitting the 60’s and that’s enough for now. I have so much to do inside yet that I don’t want things to start growing just yet. I need a week, JUST a week! Love looking at those tiny pieces and the block will be great!

Your quilting is on Dresden Garden is absolutely beautiful, Karen! I never get tired of seeing it. So cool you had 1,5” pieces cut that you can use on these next 2 country charmer blocks.

It’s been a lovely spring here too, so early! Love seeing the baptist fans in such great detail. Looking so wonderful!

I love the shades of aqua that you have there! We too are having unusually warm weather, I got some perennial starts (root pieces in little bags from Wal Mart) today and got most of them into the ground while wearing shirtsleeves! i’ll finish that job tomorrow.

Blue-Greens and Green-Blues are so much fun to play with. Looks like you have no dearth of playthings :-p Here in Northern Virginia, we are alternating between Spring one day, Winter the next. The redbuds and forsythias have begun to bloom. The Cherry Blossoms will be here soon. I just want to sew pink scraps next…
