Masks Loops, Quilting

Someone had asked me about how to make elastic loops for face masks from a t-shirt – cut the seams off of the shirt making yourself a square or rectangle of fabric cut strips about 3/4 inch wide and the length of your piece – you will sub cut these into 7 inch pieces.  It is easy to stretch your strip before sub cutting – so once you have cut the long strip take in between your hand and fingers and just kind of stretch it little by little

Then sub cut pieces into 7 inch strips or the size you need to make loops for your masks – they curl up a bit when they have been stretched but that is just fine for using.  I have heard that there is something called t-shirt ribbon/yarn that might be found in the craft stores – I hadn’t seen it but it sounds pretty much the same.

3 Pineapple blocks now – doing one a day is plenty and it gives me time to work on knitting, garden, walking, chores  – and still feel like I have made progress – I really need to get Morning Glory back out to work on the applique and I intend to after I get the binding done on RSC19 Stars – I am working on the second side and just haven’t been doing much with it this week.

The butterfly bush is beginning to bloom and looks so pretty – it does seem like most of my flowers are yellow, orange and white

Your garden always looks so lovely. I am thinking of making a mask like the one you are showing. I have a pleated one and I find it hard to breath. I hope a non pleated one makes a difference. I love your Christmas quilt.

What pretty flowers, especially the butterfly bush. No matter the color, I’m sure your garden and yard look wonderful.

I really like your pineapple blocks with those fabrics. They are going to make a pretty quilt. My butterfly weed has buds and will be blooming soon. I haven’t planted Asiatic lilies in a long time because they are candy to the deer, but this year the deer are gone! Maybe I’ll try them again next year. Beautiful flowers in your garden!

Love the blooming flowers. Thanks for showing how you cut the t-shirt. I really need to venture into the sewing room today and make some of that version of a mask to see how different it is from the pleated ones. Great progress on all your projects.

I’ve made several masks with the t-shirt strips and I think it works great – comfortable, too. Fun to see your pineapple block collection growing on the design wall! Your flowers are really pretty – love the butterfly bush. Does it bloom all summer?

I still have 8 star blocks to make for my Corona Round Robin, maybe I should use this tactic, 1 a day. Love seeing your Christmas quilt progress.

Hi Karen! Everything you shared today looks so pretty. I really love the pineapple blocks. I think I’m going to have to succumb and make some myself. Do you use a certain pattern, ruler or papers? Several bloggers I follow are making them – it seems like a sign for me to jump in, too. I have never had luck with the Butterfly Bush but I sure do love the orange it bring to the landscape. Thanks for linking up today. ~smile~ Roseanne

I had a lot of t-shirt parts left over after making a quilt (my first and only) about 10 years ago, so I made some t-shirt yarn. You can knit or crochet potholders and hotpads with them, but you need to use really big needles or hooks. It was one of those hobbies you do once or twice and never again! But I do know how stretchy they can be so should be good substitutes for elastic on masks.
Love that butterfly bush! Orange and yellow are so cheerful in the garden.

You have a beautiful garden and the pineapples are yummy – even if I cannot eat them 🙂

My butterfly bush plants aren’t as far along yet. They are usually a late bloomer here. My hydrangeas are putting on buds so it won’t be long for them. Got to get off my duff and do something today, even if its wrong.

So interesting to read the details about t-shirt elastic. Hopeful that I won’t need to use the idea, but I had wondered how exactly it worked! I love your pineapple blocks. Years ago, a pineapple quilt was on my list, but then it just wasn’t anymore. So much work involved! Am going to enjoy yours from a distance!:)

I’m so glad someone asked! I was going to do a search for guidance on making t-shirt straps. I’m loving your pineapple blocks, Karen! Your butterfly bush and lilies are gorgeous.

My husband has a mask with t-shirt strips. It’s his favorite type so far. Your flowers are gorgeous!
