A Diamond

I finished my second Allen Erskens book called The Heavens May Fall while stitching on a diamond hexie off and on all day.  And that was all I did in the sewing area until evening when I went to the quilting frame after an evening walk.  I have not read the books in order as my library only has the two – the one I mention last week The Life we Bury and then this one and there were about 2 or so in between them.  I didn’t want to pay for any LOL – so now I either buy them for the kindle or wait as my library only has those two for some reason!!

And quilting on the Christmas quilt from Tuesday night.  I can probably finish this quilt by Sunday or so.

this is what is left to do

I mentioned that I had planted tomatoes from seeds awhile back and I transplanted them into slighter larger pots a week or so ago – I also planted basil from seed around that same time – slowly they are beginning to grow and they will be ready for larger pots one day – right now there are at least two tomatoes in each little pot and the basil also – I just ran out of little pots and I wasn’t going to search for more.  Linking to Creative Compulsions —

I figure maybe by time the big tomato plants are done the little tomato plants will have started to produce making the season longer perhaps!

At 67 almost 68 I had my first video doctor appointment yesterday.  My rheumatologist is in Little Rock about 80 miles from me – I am on an immunosuppressant for my autoimmune diseases and he didn’t want me to come to the clinic (I think he is mainly working from home too as he is 68)  so we had a video chat instead – my doctor – after 32 years of being my doctor and seeing me through these autoimmune diseases from the start is retiring – he told me about 6 months ago but still – this was more like a good bye chat instead of a doctor appointment!  He has lined me up with another doctor to see me in four months and gave me all the advice a doctor should be telling his patients now with Covid-19 here – he advises to continue to mainly stay home until a vaccine is made and when I do go out to wear a mask and not be in crowds – not to have people in our home but to visit on the porch – all the things we have been doing  – he fears this virus in our nation will get worse before it gets better.  I still need to go in for my blood work but he said they changed the way they do that now and it will be by appointment only and it is one person in the room with the lab tech and that is it to be safer.  That will be lined up soon.

I really need to get back to the pineapple blocks today – I have taken a long enough break from them and my fingers need a break from the hexie diamonds.

I am glad your baby tomatoes and basil are growing in their little pots… as your matured plants are producing pretty tomatoes.
I am glad your online doctor’s appointment went well and I do hope your new doctor you see in 4 months thinks like your retiring doctor.. I also think this first wave is not over yet like your doctor said! We are careful at our home too!!!
I am excited you are almost done with the Christmas quilt quilting… then time to bind… do you have the binding already figured out???
I love the diamond you made yesterday and as for the books you are looking for … I found several books I was looking for on “chirpbooks dot com”… sometimes they are normal price and sometimes they are on sale for cheap… but they are audio books… you may want to read on your kindle instead… will your library possibly look around for the 2 books you are missing from others in the state??? Just wondering 🙂 I have done that here in NC.
As for NC and Covid.. we aren’t doing well as a state so we are staying in phase 2 and now mask wearing is mandatory in the state for everyone in public. This went to effect yesterday… it will be revisited mid July to see what we will do next. Sad that people won’t wear masks out of niceness but must be forced to!!!!
Stay safe and have fun with your pineapple blocks! Kathi

I loved The Life We Bury, which I read on your recommendation! I downloaded it to my Kindle from the library but haven’t had a chance to see if they have the next book about Joe. He is such a good character.
It’s hard when one’s doctor retires. I have had my main doctors retire twice, and our health center is so busy that they have assigned me to a physicians assistant rather than a doctor this time. I’m too healthy, they say. My dentist also retired which was even worse, but the hygienists all went to work at the new dentist’s office. So that’s working for me. I guess this happens “at a certain age.”
Sounds like you are doing all the right things to stay healthy. I have been doing a little work at the library (which is closed and only doing curbside service) lately with some ladies. We are all wearing masks and gloves while we sort booksale books for storage. Someday we’ll have another sale, but not for a while. I think the uncertainty is getting to people, but we all need to appreciate the little things in life. Our family is having a zoom meeting for my mom’s 98th birthday on Saturday. 🙂

We did a video chat with Mike’s surgeon back in May, and other than us having to figure out how it worked, I thought it was a great way to deal with things as they are right now. He needs to see him in person in August to check the incision, so it will be back o the office then. I hope you like the new doctor – it’s hard to make that change after so long with the same doctor. The newest hexie diamond is another pretty combination of colors! How long have you been quilting the Christmas quilt? Seems like it has gone fast!

Love seeing those plants! My basil was looking terrible a few weeks ago but has come back with lots of nice pretty little leaves. I had some with some tomato’s from my garden last night with dinner. So close on the quilting finish! Have you asked Melanie if there is a lending library connection where they could get the books for you? I know the systems in VT and our’s here in Florida ‘share’ books with a selection of libraries – you just have to request it.
Sorry your doctor is retiring… it is difficult when a doctor you like and trust leaves or retires. I hope the new one is similar to your current doctor.

Making the transition to a new doctor is a tough one, especially when you’ve had such a good relationship with the first. That hexie is a pretty one with those soft, lovely colors. You’re almost done with the Christmas quilt!

Oh my, you must feel at loose ends loosing your doctor of so long. It’s always good when your current doctor lines up their replacement for you so there can be a good hand off of information. I agree with your doctors assessment about COVID…..we should all continue the safe practices for the time being. It’s exciting seeing you get to the end of the Christmas quilt quilting 🙂 It is beautiful!

Oh, I hate it when a health care provider retires or moves away. Its such a chore to fine someone you trust and feel comfortable with. I’ve not done any telemed visits. I’m pretty healthy so don’t see anybody much. My nurse practitioner’s clinic (affiliated with the hospital) closed when the MD retired. A new clinic has opened (still affiliated with the hospital) and records were transferred there. I had to go for a physical visit to meet the new MD and for blood work and I really like her. I never felt confident about the other one even though I saw her a number of times. I need to get myself a basil plant. No local tomatoes are available here yet but when they are, I want my basil to be healthy and ready. Tomato pie anyone?

Sad that your nice friendly doctor who has been there for you for many years is retiring, that will be a wrench for you. But I’m sure he is happy that his replacement will give you excellent care as well. You set great goals, with expecting your Christmas quilt to be finished by Sunday. We will all be watching and waiting now!

That is a marvellous kit you got from Green Fairy…I found them excellent as well. I’m loving these hexie diamonds and the finished quilt you showed before is so beautiful. We have each had one phone appointment and they went well. I love hearing how your garden is doing.

Another beautiful hexie! I had my first Zoom appointment with my primary care provider a couple of weeks ago. Weird, but I did like not having wait at the office. I’ve had my blood drawn a couple of times now. It was also by appointment, so very few people waiting, and everyone wearing masks. It was okay. We now have mandatory masks here in NV. I’m okay with that.

I also see a Rheumatologist. Had to change last year when my husband retired and my insurance changed. I am very happy with my new one. Did a phone appointment with her in May due to computer problems on my end. And I am feeling better due to her changes. Now if I could find a primary care dr I like! Do you have RA?
    Have a good weekend!
