Machine Work

I thought here it is almost the end of the month and I have not gotten started on the two blocks I need for the RSC20 challenge (RSC Country Charmer).  Pink is not something I have a lot of but after rummaging through my canvas box of pink/burgundy I found plenty to work with and got started cutting out what I need for two blocks.

I got the first one made – sure shrinks down after all those seams are done!

And the second one is all laid out and ready to finish today – I will lay out all six months worth of blocks out and take a photo for the link up on Saturday

The room was a bit of a mess – moving things here and there off the table so I could work on the table and moved everything to the quilting frame – it sure comes in handy!  Before I get back to the pineapple blocks I might use the table first to pin the strips in place for the border on Morning Glory which is still pinned to the design wall – I really want to get those strips pinned in place and get that quilt finished.

I was outside yesterday thread basting hexies for Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds  for the next block and have one ready to start – I only have a couple hexies right for fussy cut – I don’t normally have the right prints for it so they will be few and far between.

Almost forgot to post an update on A Charming Country Christmas – almost done – maybe 3 more nights?  About half the border left to do.  Linking to Wendy’s Peacock Party — From Bolt to Beauty — Alycia Quilts — Quilts, Art, Whatever —

The kittens are back – after making their appearance some 2 weeks ago they only stayed where they were for 2 days – I think we made the mama too nervous and they were gone! Well they didn’t go far as they were under the truck yesterday and running around the yard – all four of them.  So now on our rare excursions away from the house we need to look for cats under the car or truck – and make noise so they get out of the way in case they are hiding – here is one by the tire of the truck – the rest were hiding behind the rear tire – didn’t see the mama today but the day before when I was cutting grass I startled her and she took off for the woods.  The kittens are still skittish and won’t let us near them – maybe one day – doubtful if anything like the stray cats we have had in the past – they will be here for awhile and get hit by cars on the highway or disappear in the woods – nothing to be done for it – they are not coming in the house.  I wouldn’t mind them letting me pick them up and petting them though.

I am really surprised that my large pot of flowers is still growing rather well – so often when I get something like this they flower for awhile and then die off –

IMG_8535

If you look closely it has a very nice clump of tiny blue flowers growing – I seem to remember seeing these in hanging pots in the north when we travel but rarely see them here – I don’t know what they are called.

The blue flowers up north in pots are usually lobelia, but yours look a little like forget me nots. They don’t usually grow in pots, though, so my money is on lobelia!

You’ve made great progress with the Christmas quilt – which quilt is going on the frame next?

I was thinking lobelia, too! That pot really is pretty! Looks like you had fun with pink yesterday – our RSC block looks great, and the pink hexie diamond, too. I’ll enjoy seeing all your blocks and colors together.

Those pink blocks are sure pretty, as is your plant. I have those blue flowers planted with my geraniums; mine were called lobelia. I love their intense color.

I’m not usually a pink person, but your blocks are so pretty! What a great quilt they would make for a lucky little girl.
I think those intense blue flowers are lobelia. I have have had limited luck with them here in CT, but I love the color. (I am a blue person).

Oh your pick blocks are awesome!! Good job for getting them done!!

2 more beautiful stars. I bet you can make those in your sleep by now!

What a cute little kitten! I hope they don’t become a nuisance and become good entertainment instead.

Your pink RSC and Lucy in the Sky are so pretty! The kitten is adorable! An outdoor cat’s life is hard, unfortunately. I love your pot flowers.

That pink block is beautiful! I’m not much of a pink person either but that could change my mind. I find that if I keep my pots similar to yours deadheaded, fertilized and watered, they will bloom right on into the fall. They will go through states of looking better than other times but over all look good. That beige hexie is lovely also.

  • Cathy Jun 26, 2020 @ 14:14

You always have the most beautiful and complex looking projects in the works. I’m almost positive the blue flowers are lobelia.

  • Judy Blauer Jun 26, 2020 @ 16:07

I really like the pink Lucy block! The year I had the best luck with my outdoor pots, was the year I was CONSISTENT with the fertilizer and water. Dead heading definitely helps too! Yours looks great!

Hi Karen, your pink block looks really pretty and I love your hexies!

Besides checking around the wheels and underneath, look under the hood. Don’t ask why I write that. :((
Love the pink blocks. Pink is a favourite colour so I have lots!

  • audrey Jun 26, 2020 @ 22:55

We won’t have cats in the house either, but they sure are cute! Where has the month went to? This year is the craziest mix of moving like molasses and then just screaming by.:)

  • Rebecca Grace Jun 27, 2020 @ 17:28

Are the blue flowers Forget-Me-Nots? That planter mix looks spectacular! You are like the amazing super hero of hand quilting; I can’t believe you are almost finished with that Christmas quilt already. I feel like you just loaded it on your frame the other day! I’m also in love with your pink RSC block, even though I’m not that into pink, either. I’m really in love with that newspaper print fabric, because it looks EXACTLY like newspaper in the photos. If you still have the selvage, can you tell me the pattern name and who makes it?

  • Kate Swallows Jun 28, 2020 @ 7:57

Lots of pretties in your post! The pink stars are very pretty, the blue flowers are too. Your hexie blocks are looking good too.

  • Janis Barnett Jun 28, 2020 @ 13:24

Your pink Country Charmer blocks are so sweet! I’m looking for a pattern to use for the RSC challenge next year and this one could be it.

I had a look at the Edmund’s quilt frame that you showed above and am wondering if this is the frame that you use or if you have something else. Also wondering if using such a frame would require basting the quilt or not.

  • jean Jun 29, 2020 @ 20:15

I too am not much of a pink person, but i am even less of a purple person! That first one is so pretty, love the bit of polkadot in them.
