A Little More Quilting

Before I got down to business quilting last night I needed to figure out the corner on the left side with the stencil so if I need room to “fudge” it a little bit I can – the stencil doesn’t fit perfectly – they rarely do- I need to play with it to get it to blend in right – this like all my quilts are not show quilts so it doesn’t have to be perfect but I like it to look right.

This is the area I quilted on Alaska Wednesday night

This is what was left to do on the first border last night – actually back just a little way that is out of the photo so this will take about 3 more evenings at least as those feathers slow me down.

this is the area to draw in still – I always find that the hardest to do is to get the design to meet in the corner right and I if it doesn’t I might do it my own way and all of the corners might be different!  I am certainly not going to stress over it.

A little more work on the diamond but I didn’t spend much time on it.

And 2 more pineapple blocks to join the one from the day before – all the papers were then ripped out and today I might cut out more pieces for the pineapple block or I might work on Morning Glory instead and get it off the wall – none of the blue strips that I showed last week (or was it the week before) have been perfectly placed or pinned in place.  I didn’t get much done outside as it got up to 93 and heat index was 103 – I did get some basil transplanted into larger pots at about 10 in the morning and was only out for 30 minutes or so and was sweating when I came back in and found the temperature had already reached 86 degrees at 10:30 AM!!  We did have rain towards very late afternoon to cool things off and we needed the rain.

It’s hot/humid here, too, and we have roofers looking dazed by 10 am. They worked until 5 yesterday, because they felt they were moving too slowly. They are very neat and it looks good so far. It’s going to be a little cooler today, which is good. So glad for my AC in the sewing room!

    Dear Karen,

Gardening in this heat is a sweaty business. Finally planted my veggie seeds late yesterday afternoon in pots in the garage. We are having a heat warning this side for four days. Your quilt looks amazing and the feathers with fudging will look great, as know one will ever know you wiggled it to where you were happy how it will fit. It is a problem which always trips me up. You just get right on with it, which is good. Do you know that you have been a ray of sunshine for many of us, especially for me while we were stuck in lockdown overseas? Thank you for posting every day and giving us hope and inspiration! By just working on your projects, it helps to keep us grounded and reminding us that tnis is what we all need to do, to come out the other side intact. The world may be going crazy and turned on its head, we can keep ours by doing the everyday things, one day at a time!

Your fudging looks great; you always figure out a good solution. It’s hot here too; not doing much outdoors if we can avoid it. Those pineapple blocks and the diamonds are coming along well!

Your quilting is looking great already! Will you turn the stencil to go up the side borders and make a rounded swirl there? Sounds like you’re keeping up with the paper removal on the pineapple blocks, too. That’s always the worst part of paper-piecing, but so nice when it’s done. It was hot here, too, yesterday, although we don’t have the humidity you have to deal with. We went hiking so had put on sunscreen and just felt sticky the rest of the day!

I just love watching your quilting plans evolve. You are so talented in making the motifs work and highlight the quilt.

Even if the quilting is a little different on each corner, I highly doubt anyone would notice. I am starting to think about how to quilt the appliqué elephant baby quilt since I’m working on block 11 of 12. Nice to be getting close. I love the way the elephants look, but that’s enough appliqué to last me awhile.

I am sure a plan will come together and having each corner exactly the same isn’t a must! I am sure youll figure it out!

Good progress across the board. Hopefully you figure out the corners and the center quilting style soon.
