It was one of those days where I went to a little work on one project to a little on the next and round and round it goes.
One more Pineapple Block 26 blocks done – I think if I ever do a pineapple quilt again I will invest in a pineapple quilt block ruler and not do paper piecing – it isn’t the piecing that I mind but the added chore of ripping papers. But I already have my papers so I will keep using them – some say to switch to newsprint but then I would need to make copies onto the newsprint and these are 12.5 inch blocks and my printer would not do that nor would my scanner and I’m not running around looking for a place to do copies – I will continue as I am – this photo from before I trimmed the block
A little knitting on the sleeves – getting closer – one day it will be done
The diamond is part way done and all the thread basting done for this one linking to Midweek Makers —
And the quilting on Alaska continues – this border is large and the cables go quit smoothly but the feathers slow me down
It will not look like much progress for awhile on this
Heat index yesterday was about 100 I believe although the actually air temperature was about 90 – very hot and humid and will be like this all week – I will only be out in the morning to water plants as needed I think and maybe out on the porch for a short while? we will see but I think it will be too hot this week for sitting outside – can we all believe it is July 1st already!

Happy July! I don’t think I will ever do another pineapple quilt for the reason you mentioned – taking out all those papers! The 5″ ones I did for the Long Time Gone quilt just drove me crazy, even though they turned out great.
I like the way your Alaska quilting is looking – the curves and the straight lines really look nice.
I’ve heard good things about the Creative Grids pineapple rulers. I’d like to get one at some point. I have papers for the 6″ blocks, and I have a pattern for an even smaller blocks. Someday I may tackle them, but not today 🙂 We are having hot and humid temps here too, so haven’t been outdoors much. Good days for staying in and sewing. Your projects are looking good!
Tearing out the papers for any kind of paper-pieced blocks is definitely a chore! Maybe the ruler for trimming would be easier. I don’t have one, but have thought about getting one! The cable design on your Alaska border is gorgeous! Sounds like summer has hit your area! We had a huge storm about midnight last night – thunder, lightning, rain, hail. Woke us both up!
Instead of a copy machine for the over sized pineapple blocks I use my sewing machine. especially when I have a lot of “copys” to make.
I put a pad of newsprint together , put the block I am copying on top of it…clamp , sew or tape, the pattern to the pad….. take the thread out of the sewing machine, shorten my stitches and thru pattern and paper.
Volia!!!! lots of copies and it makes it a lot easier to tear off the paper when the time comes.
Sometimes I number the pieces …. sometimes I don’t need to ….
Oh, yuk to 90 degrees and humidity!! Too bad you can’t come for a visit. It’s mid 70’s here today but also humid. I have one of those pineapple rulers and the book and have ever used it. I think I made one block with my friends after we all bought the tools at our local quilt show years ago.
Our feels like 100+ temps turned into t-storms today that kept knocking me off work. I picked up my umbrella quilting and am watching a movie! much needed rain so I am not complaining =). Pretty hexagons in green. I really like how that one is coming out.
I tried paper piecing once, and only for a couple of blocks. I did like the perfect piecing, but that was about all. I wasn’t skilled enough not to waste too much fabric, and the paper ripping was no fun. So I understand your feeling about the paper ripping.
A little done on all of your projects is great!
Hopped over for some needed motivation to get back to work on my hexagons!
Cannot believe it is already July of 2020. CRazy, crazy days.:)
Wow, that’s hot! It’s been rather chilly here over the last few days, 8-10degrees C, about 50F I think. So the heat pump has been going flat out. As always, I’m impressed with your progress on the various projects.
It seems we are having the same weather. It’s making me feel really lazy! Your Alaska is coming along beautifully!
If you shorten your machine stitch length a little the paper piecing will be easier to take the paper off the back. Nicely perforated. Love the hand quilting on the red border, it will feel wonderful when all done… I love the tactile feel of hand quilted items!
