More Stitching

Yes a little bit here and a little bit there and some reading too – I have not finished the Tall Grass book still and most likely will get that finished today.  The weatherman keeps saying we are going to start a string of days in the very low 80’s and very low 60’s at night and low humidity – I sure hope he is right – I’m ready for it!!

So lets see a little more work got done on a hexie diamond – if the weather is nice this will be outside with me today.

I have 5 pineapple blocks cut out and ready to work on

And getting closer to the end of this length of the Alaska quilt that I have been working on.

I have been starting to put my sweater together but need to unpick the shoulder seams as I was supposed to leave a gap in the center where it goes around the neck and without thinking did it straight across which leaves a bit of a rub around the neck if you know what I mean – well show that when I am done. The sleeves are being blocked right now.

I had a surprise when I looked over the deck yesterday off to one of the flower beds  – the surprised lilies have surprised me once again and seemed to pop up overnight with no warning.

I never remember where they are in this thick over grown area until they pop up – there might be a few more scattered around – one day I will need to get in this mess and thin things out – the ground cover has over taken the area.  When I first put a little ground cover here and there in this bed 20 years ago I never thought it would grow like this.

I got some little bulbs for some lilies like your surprise ones last year, and they did spring up all of a sudden. Very cute! But they must have been winter-killed since they didn’t appear again. Instead I got a whole bunch of sunflowers which seeded themselves from my bird feeders. That’s OK, too, as they’re quite cheerful and not too tall.

I do hope you get a break from the high heat. I have the windows open this morning, but will close up later this morning. Those surprise flowers are very pretty!

It is amazing how ground cover spreads! I have some that spread to a completely different garden where I never planted it, and now it wants to take over. It’s always nice to have pieces cut for blocks ahead of time, like your pineapples. Then when you’re in the mood to sit and sew, they’re all ready to go! Hope you do have some nice cool days! We finally got a rainstorm yesterday afternoon, and it cooled everything down, plus we needed that moisture!

The beautiful weather has arrived here in northern IL so it should get to you soon.

Those ground covers are certainly meant to grow where you don’t want anything else planted. I found that out the hard way.

I love surprise lilies! When I first saw them in a place we lived when I was 18 or 19, I thought they seemed alien, because they popped up so fast and without any leaves. LOL! Good progress on all of your projects! Eager to see the sweater.
