Quilting & Piecing

Just a little bit from yesterday – I spent the morning grocery shopping and reading.  By time afternoon rolled around I settled down to make a pineapple block

Then I decided to make a couple new face mask for us – I have some already cut out from the last batch of them that I did and figure if I do one or two here and there I  won’t get down from making them like I usually do and it worked.  The green for Mike and the blue for me – just need to add the loops today.

And it was hard to take photos of the star because of the darker red fabric – maybe you can make it out.

somehow a lot of you got the impression I was asking for ideas on the hexie quilt Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds – I was stating that I was pretty sure it would be a table runner – not a bed runner or a square quilt or whatever – thanks for all the ideas but no it won’t be a bed runner, or a lap quilt or whatever – a table runner – I have a rectangular table and I have shown a lot of my smaller quilts on it and I’m pretty sure that is what it will be.  Here are just a few of the quilts that I have used on my table – I love to decorate with them and of course always take the quilt off before food arrives and put down placemats.  Thanks for you input though like always.

Lucy in the sky would look great on the table! Love the use of quilts in different ways to ad a sparkle to decor indoors. The hexies can be time consuming and too much makes one’s hands stiffen up. The trick is to do another activity like knitting inbetween. Same time allotment for each one per session. It loosen up the muscles and stretch them. Hexies first, then the knitting, it helps a lot!

You do have some pretty quilts for your table! I’ll enjoy seeing how your diamonds get finished up for that purpose. Makes me think I could put some bigger ones on my table, too. What are you reading right now? I just finished up Nora Roberts’ latest book, Hideaway. I thought it was a good story!

I know what you are saying about the down feeling mask making gives us. I made 5 for my DIL recently. Love seeing the pretty quilts on your table.

Never thought to put the quilt on the table. Wonderful idea, thank you.

You and Mike will be sporting some gorgeous masks with those beautiful batiks! I have a feeling the masks are going to be with us quite awhile, so they may as well be pretty!

Hi Karen! Oh yes, I can definitely see Lucy as a runner. I recall seeing several pieces on that beautiful table – I remember the wooden oblong dish that is also fabulous! Thanks for linking up today. ~smile~ Roseanne

You do such lovely work. I have a frame, but I can’t get the knack of hand quilting on it. Are you doing the rocking stitch?

Karen, you are inspiring, as always! Thank you for sharing your table runners–I think they were exactly what I needed to see to break out of my little sewing slump. And your Alaska quilt is coming along beautifully!

“somehow a lot of you got the impression I was asking for ideas on the hexie quilt…” Ha! That made me laugh. You’re such a diplomat, Karen! I did enjoy seeing the pictures of your table dressed up with different quilted runners and toppers, though. Can’t wait to see Lucy take her turn on the table! Your new masks, quilting progress and pineapple block are all looking lovely.

I haven’t done a pineapple yet but yours is sure pretty! Nicely done!

I work in a few masks each weekend when I’m sewing, it is much easier that way. Unfortunately, I think we’ll be making them for a while.
