Lucy is progressing nicely I think. I got one corner piece made and got one side piece started. So I have been asked to show how do you construct the corner – first I lay out my choices of fabric and cut a hexie paper in half – these are showed on the top of the fabric to just show the shapes
Then you do your thread or glue baste the papers to the back side of the fabric and I lay them out again to make sure everything is how I want them to be then whip stitch the pieces together.
The corner tacked to the wall – I could have done as I did on the top row and cut to size first but along the top there is such a little bit to cut straight that I didn’t. I will just do one or two lines of tiny machine stitching to make sure that nothing comes loose I have done that on others and it worked.
That little corner went together so quickly that I went ahead and started on the first side diamond – I laid out the pieces I needed – double checked the size to make the half diamond needed to make sure I knew which pieces needed to be cut – when you cut the hexie you need to make sure you allow for the fold over to the back part!
From there of course you follow the same instructions as the corner piece and stitch together – this one is almost done – I will show it again after it is added to the wall. Linking to Inquiring Quilters Wednesday Wait Loss — Midweek Makers —
Rain and wind yesterday knocked over two of my big 5 gallon buckets with tomato plants growing the Roma’s in but I noticed it quickly and in a lull of the weather went out and straightened them back up – didn’t look like they were damaged – I am hoping by the end of the week I will have enough ripe for another batch of Marina Sauce. I will need to keep a close eye on them to make sure nothing gets them before I do and will pick early if I need to.

Dear Karen,
Absolutely love your tomatoes. That look great. Lucy in the Sky is progressing well. LOL, I always make the ful hexies, will be trying the half hexies in future.
I have a stack of hexies that are waiting for me to finish into something, so I’m watching how you are doing the corners and sides. Not sure when I’ll do anything with mine, but at least I know where I can find help when I do work on them. Love the look of your Lucy quilt. Glad your tomatoes survived the storm.
Nice to be able to see exactly how you’re making the sides and corners of your diamond project! I know you’re making it to be a tablerunner – what size are you planning? We’re starting to get more ripe tomatoes now – only one plant so just enough to eat one with dinner now and then, but so tasty! I know you have other varieties besides the Romas – what do you like to use them for?
Love how the hexie runner is coming along. You are wanting marinara sauce and I’m drooling for a tomato pie. Need some fresh basil. First year in a very long time that I don’t have some growing.
Thank you for showing how you make the corner and side triangles. I always wondered how those were handled. Looking great and those big juicy tomato’s look yummy.
I miss having a garden 🙁
Nothing tastes better than home grown tomatoes, they look so yummy. Great progress on Lucy and interesting to see how you do the corners.
Really good tutorial, Karen! Will you leave the edges scalloped when you do the binding?
Glad the Romas weren’t damaged.
I never thought about how you do the corners. Thanks for the demonstration. That was some storm on Tuesday wasn’t it.
Thanks for showing us how the half hexies are done! Those tomatoes look yummy. Have fun harvesting. Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
