I really have no other name for this quilt other than “Signature Quilt” maybe I should change it to “Friends Around the World” I don’t know we will see – how do you think that sounds? – It is now on the frame and work has begun. As far as getting this quilt on the frame it went so smoothly – sometimes that doesn’t happen – I think I had it on the frame in under 90 minutes.
First the top goes on the back rail
Then the backing on the middle and the front – then roll it all towards the front so you can pin the batting over the backing
Roll the batting and backing all the way on to the middle rail and pin the batting to the front rail – roll it back and forth a time or two if needed to get it all smooth – only had to do this once and it worked
Then you pull the top down over the two layers and pin in place – you are now ready to quilt. Made it sound easier than it is LOL – my back was hurting by time I got done. There is a tutorial on the sidebar for how to load a 3 rail hand quilting frame if you need more photos.
I never really looked to see what thread I had in the box for this quilt and didn’t have a completely full spool but these two of King Tut variegated are so close so I will use them both alternating off and on and it will not even be noticeable that they are slightly different. One is #913 the other #938 – this thread isn’t quite as thick as the Aurifil #28 that I had been using the last couple of years but this is the kind I always used to use and need to use it up.
I decided to use this stencil – the cable only – not the flower – for the borders. It fits perfectly but my border corners are signature blocks so will not use the flower on that.
And I think I will use this flower for the corner units in between signatures – the one on the first stencil is a little large – just the flower and leaf’s not the other part in that design. I’m not sure if I will have the leaf’s going out all four ways or just on point.
Looking through the fabric I had put aside from Alaska I have decided to use the green – it has the most leftover fabric and I like how it alternates from the green, to red border to green binding.
Lucy – a little bit got done while watching the news. Linking to Creative Compulsions —
Connecting Threads – anniversary sale – use the code to get $15.00 off of $50 or more – – the code is 15OFF50
Green Fairy is having a sale also – not sure when that one expires – this one is for Bella Solids!
Fat Quarter Shop has Aurifil Thread 30% off right and always great sales on the sales tab.
Thanks to all that have ordered from these sales that have ordered through my links – I do appreciate it.

I like the stencils you are using for the Friends quilt – and your proposed name, too. That all happened quickly!
I ordered some basic colors of thread via FQShop – half price from my LQS. I like to support local merchants, but sometimes it’s nice to get a sale. I will go there to buy some batting soon, anyway, as I’m almost ready to quilt the large medallion I’ve been working on this year.
I love “Friends around the world” x
Friends around the world is a wonderful way to rename the Signature quilt if you decide to do that… I love how you are using 1 stencil for all your needs on this quilt… divide and conquer 🙂 Enjoy getting Lucy ready to be quilted in the pile… and your crocheting can get a bit of time after that! Excited to see the border if you started last night too!!! Kathi
As you quilt the signature quilt, you can “visit” with each of your friends who sent you blocks. So fun
So glad it went on the frame so easily, but I can imagine it’s hard on the back! Friends around the world is a great name!
I was going to say what Wendy said – glad the signature quilt went on easily, but I can see how that bending would be hard on your back after awhile! Looks like you are all set to start quilting, and the purple thread is going to be great for it. I think Friends Around the World is the perfect name for this quilt!
Dear Karen,
Alaska quilt is looking amazing and that green binding makes it pop, WOW! You made putting the next quilt on the frame easy, I just realised something, my quilt is on the frame and I did not roll it back when I started to quilt it, so I need to do that. No matter how long we do something, if we have not done it for a while, it is easy to forget how to do it. Thanks to you my quilt which I have not quilted too much yet can be corrected. Your signature quilt should definitely be renamed, Friends around the World sounds perfect!
Friends around the world is perfect 🙂
Yes, I agree with the new name for the signature quilt. It must have been so exciting for you when those signature blocks started arriving in your mail box, a while ago now, wasnt it.
Friends Around the World is perfect! I like how you’ve decided to quilt it. And the thread you’ve decided to use. I’m very partial to purple.
I am looking forward to seeing your quilting progress on this one. (My name is on the top. How long until it appears?)
That was fun to see the steps involved in putting a quilt on the frame! Lovely stencil choices!
