This block is just about ready for stitching to start – I have a few tweaks to do including drawing on a turn under line for the center circles so that it will be even – it is a little uneven no matter how I tried for perfect LOL – the blocks are 32 inches and this is a short wall as the ceiling has an angle to it. When I get to the final row I will need to lay them out on the floor.
the blue Love Letters block is glue basting in place – stitching will happen for the rest of the month, although you might not be able to see the black outer ring is the same as 2 of the urns above – It ties together better than just a plain blue and carry the black/gray through each block. I will link to SoScrappy today for the RSC21 link up. Maggie from Cheerful Chickadee gave me the idea! thanks Maggie.
More progress on Lucy and I rolled it down last night and started again on the left side.
I didn’t check but I would say I am about half way done.
For those that might be curious on the orange tulips – the other two bulbs opened on Thursday and by Friday I was noting color changes from yellow to orange – this is first in the morning before the sunlight hits
Full sunlight and they open wide
Maybe on this close up you can see that hint of orange starting on the yellow flowers – I will keep a watch and see if it turns as orange as the others – I have usually only see tulips open wide like this if they are old and/or you have cut and brought them into the house. This clump of tulips are the only ones opening so wide – I really don’t remember if they were in a separate bag then others but the centers are a little different also.

I think using the black urn fabric for the ring is a great idea. It ties all the blocks together.
Your tulips are looking so pretty. I am still waiting for the daffodils I planted to boom.
Have a good weekend.
YES!
I really like how love letters looks on the wall so far! The tinge of orange in your yellow tulips is very pretty.
I love orange tulips – guess it’s because they are so rare. Everyone seems to have mostly red or yellow which look good en masse.
I like the circle with the darker outline better than your first. This is going to be a lovely quilt!
Dear Karen,
Those are surprise tulips. You are right they only open that wide when they are almost finished flowering, still mystified as to the ones changing colour, maybe it is a new variety and a few of those bulbs got placed in collection by accident? Either way they look beautiful and fun to see what will happened to their buddies next to them. Lucy in the sky is going fast, before you know it
She will be done. Love the colours on your love letters, especially the way you used different colours on all the large flowers, this block looks amazing.
Your desigh wall looks fantastic. Those applique blocks are stunning.
It looks like the quilting is going smoothly, Lucy in the sky quilt is calling my heart.
Beautiful flowers.
I like how you layered the lighter blue circle with the dark urn fabric underneath! Great idea! That is really going to be a stunning quilt with all the applique. The yellow tulips turning to orange are so unusual, but really pretty! My tulips are sending up their buds, but I don’t actually remember what color I planted. Maybe pink?
The tulips are really pretty. I’ve never heard of tulips that change color, but such a nice surprise. Your blue Love Letter block is beautiful. It really made a big difference to change the circle, didn’t it?
Your blue block is beautiful! Enjoy the slow stitching on it this month. Thanks for sharing the tulip photos. We don’t get them in Florida and I miss seeing them welcome the spring.
Enjoy stitching on that beautiful BLUE block, Karen!!
Great solution to the blue wreath. The quilt is going to be another knock out.
Love the tulips, love the blue wreath, so creative.
Such interesting and pretty tulips! And those blocks are just gorgeous!!
Wow I think that black made a big difference in that blue block. Looking good! I had gone back and looked at your first Lucy picture. The row you just finished was the center. It’s moving so quickly.
just wow
That such a great suggestion to use both black and blue fabrics on your circle, makes all the difference, I think. Its always nice to get helpful hints from other quilters.
I like the change in the center circle, too! I good solution! I’m anxious for tulips in my neighborhood! Soon,I’m sure!
Oh boy- love the decision on the ring for the love letter block. I have seen a variety of tulips that have the lighter colored centers before… somewhere.
Those Love Letters blocks look amazing. What’s the size of each block? Beautiful tulips, love the orange color.
I really like what you did with the center ring in the blue Love Letters block. It makes it more showy. That’s a beauty of a block! Your changing from yellow to orange tulips are really pretty. I think it’s neat that they change.
The Love Letter is not quite perfect? All I see is a beautiful quilt in progress. Keep up the good work on Lucy. I’m really loving that one too.
Your blue block is so pretty – as are the others on the wall! Lucy is coming along nicely, it will be a lovely finished piece.
I miss the beautiful scent of tulips in bloom. Please, enjoy them for me!
