The quilting on the Pineapple Quilt is coming along really well and I feel I will finish it for sure this coming week – I’m estimating it should take about 5 more days at least to finish it. The next up on the frame is the Drunkard’s Path quilt which is about the same size. This part of the quilt was done Thursday night – I recently had a couple people ask me what kind of longarm machine I had because they couldn’t see the machine – I though it was obvious this is a hand quilting frame – so no – no long arm here it is all done by hand. Linking to Patchwork & Quilting —
some progress on the Rose Garden block and I really well try to get this one done tomorrow as I want to get the 36 patch blocks done for the RSC challenge that I have been working on. I have to get the table cleared off so I can do that! This month will not be lime green for me – I do not have many lime colors or even close to it. I think I will be doing brown, gray or black depending on what fabric pieces I have for the 3 projects that I am doing for the RSC. I well decide tomorrow for the 36 patch blocks and then go from there. I think I found 2 pieces of lime green only! I do have some pretty pieces in brown for sure but I want to look through the gray and black also and see what I have.
Next year I doubt I will work on 3 RSC – I really pushed it this year on that. At this point I had thought to continue the 36 patch blocks into next year but then I got an idea going through my head to do alternate blocks of a different pattern for that quilt using my 6” dies and see what I can come up with – I will look it over and see. Possibly if I do that I could start the alternate blocks next year and continue those in the colors chosen. Also I had thought of making the star quilt larger and I’m kind of changing my mind on that also and going with something about 80 x 80 instead of 100 x 100 – I will decide on those soon.
We have finally been getting a little rain the last couple days not much but every tiny bit helps but over 2 or has it been 3 days now of looking like it will pour we have not even accumulated 1 inch!! maybe by this morning we will get more. I’m off this morning to get my 3rd Moderna Covid shot – wish me luck in not feeling awful the next couple days – when I got my second shot I had 2 days of severe aches and pains. I am getting the 3rd shot on doctor’s advise because of the autoimmune disease I have and the medication I take because of it. I go to the Wal-Mart pharmacy so I will grab whatever groceries are needed to and then I know I can just lay around for the next couple of days if needed and not go anywhere!
I did work a little more on the Love Letters block but it basically looks the same as yesterdays photo and I didn’t think to take another – the right half of the block is finished and the stem directly to the left of center is part way – I hope to finish that stem today and the Rose Garden block.

Good to know what this month’s RSC color is. Not sure I have much lime either, but I sure have a lot of green. So I will probably make another set of green pineapples. I have my appt. for the Pfizer booster set for Oct. 23, and a flu shot Oct. 11. Hope you don’t have much of a reaction to shot #3!
Oh my gosh, that’s funny. You should roll up your sleeve, take a picture of your arm, and send it to those people who are asking what kind of long arm machine is responsible for your beautiful hand quilting!! You are going to beat me yet in the Race of the Pineapple Quilt Finishing, I think, because I’m still stalled at the label before I can attach the binding, and I have a clients’ quilt to get bound this weekend and a vintage repair that I want to knock out for another client next week. I am finding it more challenging lately to balance clients’ projects with my own quilts, but I will figure it out. Possibly it’s just normal for the work to pile up at the end of the year with the holidays coming, and then I’ll bet things will be quieter and more manageable come January. Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, right? Hmmm…. Maybe I could finally join in the RSC challenge next year, too? Y’all have been tempting me with all of the gorgeous quilts that come out of RSC from different quilters!
Those are strikingly large pineapples! I might have a go at making those too. The only ones I’ve seen before have had tiny, tiny pieces. I like your rose garden block. How large are the units in the block?
Glad to hear you’re getting your booster today – I am, too! Mine is Pfizer. Here’s wishing us both not too much in the way of side effects! I haven’t looked at my greens yet – I probably don’t have much lime either, but I’ll see if I have enough different ones for my blocks that I could use if I want to. I’m curious to know about your possible alternate blocks to go with your 36 patch blocks – that will be fun to see!
Good luck with not feeling bad with your booster shot. My mom is getting her booster shot this afternoon too.
Dear Karen,
That is so not funny, how can one mistake handquilting with machine quilting? Lime green, the total sum of one fabric in my stash. Will do the grey and black with white which is still not done. Good luck with the booster shot. Yes, the RSC21 was a new one for me, Omygosh quilt will be it for me for next year. Decided this year to concentrate on the nine patch blocks and next year on the churn dash blocks. It is a great way to work on patterns and getting the one’s on the wishlist done in this life time, or something along those lines. Rest up and relax.
I hope the booster does not cause a problem. Smart to plan on a few days of rest just in case. Projects are looking great… and I’m very confused as to how your beautiful hand quilting was confused with long arming… I think I will try and start back quilting on my frame this month. The poor cats and mice quilt are getting antsy to get finished.
Karen tu acolchado se ve tan bonito, me encantan todos tus bloques rose garden.
Suerte en tu vacuna, espero no tengas molestias.
Saludos
So close on your hand quilting–beautiful!!!
Your Pineapple quilt is looking absolutely wonderful. The two colored quilts always look even better when the texture is added! Best of luck with your next shot! Take care!
Great to see the progress on Pineapple, it’s nearly done! I love Rebecca’s suggestion about taking a photo of your own arm ;D
Thank you for linking up!
