Yesterday was a stay home day and I got busy on the borders for Love Letters. All four made and one attached. This is my last RSC quilt top of 2021 to finish – this is the third. I’m not sure what all I will make next year (next week!) – I have ideas for 3 or 4 RSC tops – we will see, I will be looking through my collection of dies – two will be big block quilts as I found the Stars and Love Letters to go quickly that way and use up scraps – one die I have makes 18 inch blocks and another 16 inch. I have smaller block sets too – I think 2 make 10 inch and one makes 8 inch.
All of it laying there ready to work on – I did of course have to move it all to quilt last night and now that I am done with the Drunkard’s Path it will stay on the frame for an extra day until I get done with border so I have something to lay it on while I match up borders for mitered corners. Linking to Small Quilts & Doll Quilts today
Because the area I am quilting on the Drunkard’s Path is narrow I am moving along rapidly – I most likely finished it last night but as I was writing this last night I hadn’t started the evenings work on it while I was watching a show on Netflix.
I picked up on the green area last night
We knew all good things would come to an end drastically as Arkansas weather always is and yes on New Year’s Day we start with a high of 66 and will drop to 20! kind of hope they change that low before then – for two nights in a row it said 20 and day times back in the 40’s as it can be at this time of year. So today I will take time away from the borders of Love Letters and add more mulch to the strawberries to give them a little more cover and see if anything else will need it – you really can’t protect everything but just give it your best shot.

A lot of the shops are starting their end of year sales – I’m not posting the links here but just click on the shops on the side bar and it will get you there if you are interested.

I have a question that you may have answered in an earlier post, but it just occurred to me. Your drunken path quilt is so beautiful, and the colors and values and patterns are so beautiful together. Could you write a little about how you chose the fabrics to go with other fabrics? Is it serendipity, instinct, years of experience, a constant eye to the color wheel that bring you to so much harmony and beauty?
Your borders for Love Letters are going to really finish it off nicely! I’ll be curious to see what your new year’s plans for RSC quilts are. That’s always a fun thing to think about! I have some to finish still, but have an idea for a new one, too. Drunkard’s Path will be a pretty finish! Do you know what’s going on the quilting frame next?
Looking forward to seeing what you choose for RSC2022!
Dear Karen,
It all looks good, love the fact that you are going to cover your strawberry plants. We are getting more snow as I am writing this. Have a wonderful day
Wow, I can’t get over all the blooming going on in your garden and imagine breaking records for warmth in December. You accomplish so much Karen. I’m always inspired by your work. I’m so happy I found you here on the net. Enjoy your week and getting the chance to work outside in the garden too.
You have had such a productive year, Karen! I so hope 2022 will be more productive for me quilting-wise. We all knew the warm weather couldn’t last. Our temperatures start to drop the day after yours does. In the meantime, we are being spoiled by 70 degree weather.
Ooooh, the DP is done! I love those striking borders on Love letters.
I am so taken with the black and white polka dot prints setting off the Love Letters blocks. They are such striking frames for the pretty applique.
Woo Hoo on the DP finish! (I know you got the quilting done!). It turned out fabulous. Can’t wait to see what is next in line and your plans for 2022. Keep those berries safe… you will have some berries in a few months I hope.
That’s a big change in your temperatures over the day.
I’m thinking of RSC for 2022 as well, but then, I haventfinished all my tops for this year yet.
