Accuquilt At Work

I was busy cutting fabric off and on all day – it really tells me that yes after have my hand crank GO for quite a few years now I really do need to get the electric cutter sometime this year!  It will be so much easier on my hands – one of the things they tell you is what machine is right for you – and if you have arthritis like I do it is recommended to spend the extra dollars and get the electric one.

I needed more hexies for the Hexagon quilt and more of the flannel cut  – I got done with both.  Here is my stack of flannel to get busy on this week.  I did get some of the next colors of hexies cut too but I forgot to take a photo – right now I am  busy while sitting down watching the news with thread basting red/yellow flowers I need six of them and I need black for an outline – I think I got plenty of those cut as well.  I am cutting pieces as I need them for that quilt.  For To Do Tuesday I will working my way through this stack of flannel.

And this little saying is so true – especially when it comes to hexies.

A little more to quilt on this end of Twinkle, Twinkle – which I believe I finished last night and probably rolled it down again for tonight.  While I am quilting in the evening I am watching the show “Yellowstone” – one would like to like these people – but they are just down right bad people!  they take justice in their own hands constantly – real people are just not like that – but I keep wanting to see what happens next so I well keep watching it.  (the only innocent person in this is the child!)

while enjoying the last couple days of nice 60 degree weather (cold now again) I was outside off and on looking for my spring plants to pop up  – and sure enough they are on schedule – it might not seem like it most days but spring is coming – here is a hyacinth popping up – now of course it will be in the 30’s for a little bit

Daffodils – the sun was way to bright for this photo – instead of using the zoom I should have gotten down on my knees closer to it.

and another variety of daffodils – yes here it is the end of January and in Arkansas it is 60 one day – 35 for a couple days or 3-5 and then it will be near 60 again and yes we say – spring is almost here even though it will be a good 6 weeks for sure

I used my hand crank Baby Go a few weeks ago to cut circles and I agree – electric seems wise as we age and get stiffer. I had to press down so hard that the circles were more oval than circular. I’m going to try using freezer paper on them next time. I’m slowly practicing various embroidery stitches with “pennies” on dark squares of batik. I have no idea what the end result will be. Probably something small!

Sorry to hear the hands are troubling you again. Sounds like the electric cutter will be in your future. Do you baste the hexagons through the paper, or just through the fabric on the back? Cute sayings on those little hexie papers.

This is so true: big projects start with little pieces.
The plants in your Garden are announcing that spring will soon arrive and life is ready to be renewed and will blossom again, enjoy.

I love those early signs of spring. Today is bitter cold here in Wisconsin, but the sun is shining so no snow for a few days. I always love when I see the first buds on the lilac bush, too.

Looks like you’re making steady progress on both the flannel blocks and the hexagon project! A lot of people really like Yellowstone and have recommended it, but we watched one episode and abandoned it. Maybe we should go back and try again? I’m always happy to see the signs of Spring popping up at your place, because that means it will show up here eventually!

Keep your eyes out for a great sale at Accuquilt to buy an electric one. I noticed they are continuing pretty impressive sales. I keep looking but have refrained from buying any more. (We’ll see how long that lasts!) I don’t think we’re going to see spring for quite a while. Let’s see what Punxsutawney Phil says!

The electric cutter is so easy. You will love it. Big Star is looking so nice. I love the look of handquilting. It looks like we are to be in the 40’s this week, a cold day on Saturday, and in the 50’s next week. I can live with that!

I have the baby Go with me and it sure is hard to get the die through, 6 layers just wouldn’t go! Sometimes only 2 layers :(. Did you ever have that one?

    Dear Karen,
Spring bulbs! Yes, it is a wonderful sight. Just love the photos, no need to zoom in, we can see the green leaves and a flower bud on them. Thank you for sharing your nature pictures. We really appreciate the time you take outdoors, to take them. Twinkle twinkle star has a lively green star just to cheer us up even more. Have a fun day.

It must be so exciting to see those little bits of green as the bulbs start popping their heads up after winter. Your flannel quilt will be lovely and cozy, and the fabrics you have chosen look nice and rich colours.

I would think that the electric cutter would be a great help to you.

  • Kathleen McCormick Jan 26, 2022 @ 18:45

You will be happy with the electric cutter, especially for all the cutting you do! It is a good thing to make it easier on ourselves as we age. We deserve it, as do our quilts.

We know nothing about Yellowstone but have really been enjoying 1883, the prequel. As much as I look forward to fall and winter, I’m always overjoyed when I see the spring bulbs beginning to break through. I was raised in northeastern Oklahoma, and we had those same bulbs, plus asparagus and peonies to look forward to every year.
Thank you for linking up with To Do Tuesday!
