At the sewing machine yesterday – and I got all the HST’s sewed onto the main pieces of flannel – and then pressed.
Stacks of squares and divided into piles by color – the white is the smallest stack followed by the red – which means I will need to stand back and look at the design wall and make sure things are scattered about well.
I started to play a little bit and scatter blocks around on the table to get ideas – nope this one doesn’t do it for me
But this one did – see the elongated stars in it! This is it. I always find it amazing that by simply turning a block a different direction you get a totally different look. Linking to Wendy’s Quilts and More —
While the news was on in the evening I got one flower hexie done – I need a total of six of these for the section currently in progress
Twinkle Twinkle in progress
A bigger “basket” to keep my hand quilting supplies in at the frame – the old container wasn’t large enough for all the thread!
My large cutting mats arrived and somehow another BOB got in that order – oops I ordered another one – The Lemoyne Star – this makes a 2 color star rather quickly by layering a light layer and a dark layer over the board and voila you have a two color star cut out in minutes – makes a 9 inch block – you need four light and four dark to make the one block – no Y seams.

The elongated stars has always been one of my favorite layouts using those blocks. Looking forward to seeing all those blocks up on the design wall.
Love the elongated stars. Such a fun layout. My BOB arrived yesterday as well.
I like that elongated star design, too! That is a pretty grouping of the flannels you’ve got in the photo. Glad you found what you needed for the cutting mat. I love those LeMoyne star blocks – I think it’s the reverse/alternating colors going around the center. They make a great design!
I do prefer the elongated star layout. It will make a pretty quilt. You’ve been busy, as usual!
Dear Karen,
Love the layout of the flannel stars. It really makes the fabrics dance.
Love the looks of those stacks of blocks and playing with the arrangement. Its always a mystery how those BOBs can jump into a cart with the cutting pads!
Karen, the stretched stars layout is so fun looking… will this flannel quilt be hand quilted?? You could really accentuate that stars with your exceptional hand quilting… I look forward to seeing the blocks on your design wall… even if next month after rsc blocks are all done!
I love that your cutting mats came and I can’t wait to see you making the fun star bob you got! All in due time I’m sure!!! Lol
Just had my pre op phone interview for my right knee replacement surgery coming February 9 hopefully! Then I will be walking all over the place by warmer weather!!! We are cold here and expecting snow today or tonight!
Have fun making the hexi flowers and quilting on twinkle! Kathi
Ooh! I love those elongated stars too. I looked at the LeMoyne Star, it instead got Storm at Sea and Winding Ways. For RSC 2022, I am making a block that can be assembled from the dies in the 10” cube. It was only after the fact that I realized I chose a block with Y seams. Now I need to read about the best approach for doing them.
Version two of the flannel blocks definitely is the winner, like you I find it interesting how turning a block k makes such a big difference. You are coming along so well with this.
