I just didn’t feel like sitting at the sewing machine yesterday. I spent a bit of time listening to an audio book instead and working on my hexies.
Laying the hexie design on the cutting matt here so size can be determined – I would say about 28 inches diameter
I am linking to Texas Quilt Gal: To Do Tuesday —
I am thinking of a name for the hexagon quilt – this design is from a photo that I saw on Pinterest with no links leading anywhere but I did find the name of the designer and that she is from Japan and had her design at the big shows some years back. Right now I am going with a suggestion by one of my long time blogger friends – Vicki– Colorways by Vicki – “Noriko’s Star” my quilt will not be an exact replica of her quilt but one would probably think it resembled it greatly. The coloring will be different and my center is already slightly different due to a mistake I made LOL – it is hard going from a photo you can not blow up really well without loosing clarity.
Work on Twinkle, Twinkle from Sunday night
I planted some more strawberries as I lost some over the winter and the new plants have some blossoms and berries on them already. This is just some of the area that is planted – I have two raised beds with 56 plants in them. Some of the plants are quite tiny I don’t know if they will produce berries – we will see. It has been a long time since I have had strawberries planted – like maybe 20 years!! All of the pathways in the garden got a pine needle covering on them to keep them clear of mud – I will gather more up after summer to keep it neat – it is working out really well. I would normally get bark mulch but this is free! I want to see how it will do to keep the weeds down this year.
Back to work on the Pickle Dish Blocks today!! Can you believe we are half way through March already!!

Dear Karen,
The pine needles are free and they work. Fresh strawberries from the garden is a treat, if you have too many you could make strawberry jam and all sorts of delicious treats. Your hexie project is looking great and Twinkle twinkle star is almost done. So glad we are on the tail end of winter, even though we woke up to another snowy day. Pulled out the veggie seed packets to see what more seeds I need to get. Planning ahead to when the snow and frost is gone….
Your hexie quilt is growing well and it is beautiful. I am enjoying seeing your progress on it.
Your hexie project is just looking amazing, and I think the name is perfect for it! It’s great that you’re trying to honor the original designer, even while making the design your own. Homegrown strawberries right out of the garden are the best! I think your pine needle mulch is a great idea – and it works, too!
Notiko’s Star – what a good idea. It’s beautiful Karen! I am enjoying seeing it grow.
That hexie quilt is really amazing, so pretty. It reminds me of Chinese Checkers! I used pine needle mulch for my garden paths, and it worked well. I should have used them for the strawberries, don’t know why I didn’t think of it. I’m eager to see how yours do. I am considering raised beds for my garden next year, but this year we are going to try the beds next to our house in the back yard and see if our veggies/flowers get enough sun.
Thank you for linking to To Do Tuesday!
Those hexies are very striking, i love your colour combination. Audiobooks are great to go along with handwork. I just did some unpicking and while listening to an audiobook, made it less painful!
A very appropriate name for the hexie quilt. It looks fantastic. Strawberries are always fun. Hope you get lots of berries this year. With the weather being so variable, it’s amazing anyone is brave enough to plant something new.
