I like organization and order in my day – which I’m sure a lot of you have caught on to by now as I seem to be like clock work LOL – I do not have OCD – but maybe borderline! So my girls like to tell me anyhow. From the start my day wasn’t how I planned it. Melanie needed a ride to work as they are in a one car situation at the time and miscommunication had her texting me at 7 AM begging a ride – pick her up by 8:10 please – what’s a mom to do even when the gal is getting close to 50 LOL we are in the country and only 2 miles away it is not like you can call an uber – I don’t believe we even have that here! – so yes I helped her out and seeing as I had planned a trip to the grocery store it got moved up to morning so I could do one trip instead of two – makes sense with gas prices as they are – and from there nothing went as I had planned.
I screwed up the first Lemoyne Star block I was going to do by somehow turning pieces around and had all blue where the white was to go and white where the blue was to go and didn’t notice what I was doing until all quarters of the block were made – so then the seam ripper came out to play. I said good bye to the sewing machine and went out to the porch with the hexies and the audio book. Best to wait another day!!
So there is progress on the hexies! This is the last of this section of “flowers” before they get joined.
While at the grocery store I saw something that I rarely see in Arkansas – Rhubarb!! I bought two bundles and made pie and froze two small bags of chopped rhubarb for coffee cake, muffins or whatever.
It was very good!! The pie was quite juicy but it firmed up well after chilling in the refrigerator for awhile.
Turns out the plant that I thought was Sea Holly and would have purple flowers doesn’t have purple flowers and it is a different variation of Sea Holly called “culantro” which is related to cilantro that is used in Mexican food and others – but this one is used in Vietnamese and other Asian food. How it washed up into my yard I do not know. I still I’m not sure if the plant ap has that right though as it shows the spiky leaves you see here as being at ground level and on this plant it has the big leaf’s that you see on the ground which Sea Holly has. So I will leave it be for now as it isn’t bothering me any but I do not usually experiment with herbs I am not 100% sure of and I do not trust the plant ap at this moment.
I watched the house hearings on the January 6th disaster which put my whole evening out of whack and didn’t get to writing my post until late last night and then wanted to quilt for a little bit to unwind – this is the progress that I had from Wednesday night on Love Letters. Heaven knows how much quilting I got done with last night!

I had a similarly mixed up day yesterday. It was so tiring that I ended up buying take out food for dinner. Was most impressed by the hearing last night. But didn’t sew a stitch. Today will be calmer, I hope!
I watched the hearings too and was very impressed with the factual nature of it, these were not “tourist” at the Capitol. I have some rhubarb left over from a tasty strawberry rhubarb pie and was wondering if I chop and freeze it, can it be used frozen in future pies?
I freeze 5-6 c, for each pie. I thaw it and it is softer but my rhubarb loving husband never complains. Freeze at least a cup more than you use fresh.
I love organization too, as my husband will confirm. Our daughter is 45 and still wants us to help her out, but then I remember Mom helping me out in my 60s, so I have no room to talk – lol! That rhubarb pie looks delicious. I’ve never made rhubarb pie, but I love sour cherry pie so I bet I’d love this. Enjoy your weekend!
I guess I kinda like order also, or at least I really like when things go as planned without tons of interruptions. I might get a little grumpy when that doesn’t happen some days. Have a great weekend!
Some days are just crazy, aren’t they?! Your blocks always look just perfect to me, so I’m sorry to hear about the seam ripper episode – no fun. My mom often says things to me about feeling badly that she needs me to do so much for her now. And I just say, look what you’ve done for me my whole life! We moms are like that! Hope today goes a little smoother for you.
Before I forget, thanks for the details on how to sew a LeMoyne Star. I love stars and no doubt will be stitching one sometime. I will use this as a guide.Meanwhile, my daughters are late 40’s and I help out often. My 17 year old grandson sometimes needs a ride to and from his after school job at a farm and I help out with that too. It does eat into the day or throw off plans sometimes which makes me smile as a retiree with mainly feeding us and stitching on the agenda.
I’ve been feeling off ever since our storm and the moody weather isn’t helping. Hand stitching always calms me so the cross stitching is moving right along. Thanks for this post, Karen!
At least your day improved after the disorganized start! The rhubarb pie looks so yummy. I’ve had rhubarb only once. My grandmother used to grow it. I’m so curious about your mystery flower! We watched the Jan 6 hearings last night too. Horrific!
Hope today goes a little more smoothly and to your ordered plans. I try to have ‘plans’ but alas they often get sidelined. I’m curious on that new plant and what it actually is as well. I did not watch the hearings last night but have read the different commentaries and coverage of it this morning. I try to follow a few different news outlets in the US and outside to get a clearer version of things.
