Well I finally got more rows sewn for Rainbow Stars – that is in groupings of 2 now I need to sew the 4 sets of 2 rows into the top – I don’t care for sewing the long rows together so I thought maybe that would break it up a little bit but of course now I have the four sections to sew. When I get done with that I will sew one more row to make it 9×9 – which means making 9 more blocks – I do have some extra blocks but they most likely aren’t in the colors I need – I think this top is taking a little longer to finish then I thought it would – but it should still be done by the end of the year and then I will start the new year off with another almost finished top and will have another one done to join this one in the “to be quilted” basket. I’m linking to Small Quilts and Doll Quilts.
I checked out Connecting Threads yesterday and ordered a backing for the quilt above and batting so that will arrive soon and be ready for when I am ready to quilt this one. I always like to have it before I need it! they have lots of quilt backs to look at. Use code BACKING30 if you order any Today only
More hexies were basted yesterday for Noriko’s Star and joined the section I am currently working on. The gray row is ready to join the yellow row but the blue/green are thread basted only. I will go through my green colors to find more in this color grouping – I have the lighter green that I have been using for the star points but want the ones in these new sections to be a little darker.
Quilting on Butterflies in Flight from Saturday night
I managed to get two more loads of pine needles in the wheelbarrow yesterday for the garden and I’m now down to 2 good size sections of the pathways that need them on it to finish it off. Finally we are to start getting some nicer weather this week and next – back to the 50/60’s for daytime and 30/40’s for night – that sounds much nicer to me!! Especially for doing outside work. I will take a photo of the garden bedded down for winter when I get done. I might need to toss a little more light coverage over the strawberries but I think I had it too thick last year so maybe not – quite a few of the plants rotted last winter and the area was very wet – less coverage and they will dry out a little better after the rains and snow – when I transplanted I put them in two rows to a bed and on “hills” in hopes that they won’t stand in water again.

The quilt top is almost together! And it looks great! I love the purple block in your butterflies quilt. It was cold here yesterday. We have had two pretty big frosts so far, but I just happened to think to ask my husband to move my clematis (in a pot )to the garage last night. I hope it’s not too late. Your hard work should pay off with some yummy strawberries next spring!
You can plow right through and get those long sections sewn together on RS, just think of the Ahhhhh sigh when you are done with that;)
All the quilts are looking great. I’m glad the weather has warmed up a bit for you so you can finish off the outside work. Enjoy your week.
The color work in Rainbow Stars is beautiful. It will be a knock out
when quilted.
Those long seams are never really very appealing to sew for me, either! But you’re getting close. I’ll have to check out the backing sale at Connecting Threads – that is what I really need right now. Pretty purples in your 36 patch block!
Long seams can be boring between pinning and sewing. I agree with you completely. But I really like how Rainbow Stars is looking. Fabulous. We woke up to 17 this morning. And we head out to the gym first thing in the morning. This is so unlike our typical late fall weather but at least it isn’t snowing!
Rainbow Star is so pretty. It was a really good idea to use these two blocks together. Always love seeing Butterflies. Maybe it’s because the alternating blocks are different, so I can see your progress better, but it seems like this one is going along at a particularly good clip.
Rainbow Stars is coming along so nicely, Karen! I like how you’re switching up thread colors on your Butterflies quilt, too — it adds a little whimsy that is just perfect!
You probably won’t have to do any marking for quilting on the Rainbow Stars with so much piecing to outline or follow.
I’m happy for the warmer weather too although we won’t get as warm as you. We may get into the low 50s Wednesday but otherwise it is 40s for a week.
Karen, I’m ordering wide backing from Connecting Threads. How do I apply your site so you get credit?
I am really liking that Rainbow Stars quilt. Who knew? I don’t have a GO cutter to do them but I have friends who do!
