Why did I decided I just had to get a couple presents to wrap? I do not enjoy shopping – I enjoy shopping for presents even less – I didn’t really enjoy the day – I felt exhausted by time we were done – even the place we were going to stop to eat lunch was a disappointment – it was closed – permanently – it was only there a few years I wonder what was up with that – Red Robin – overpriced hamburgers but still – better than some. Soon Christmas will be done and all the stress that can come with it – right! I like decorating –I love baking – I love seeing expressions of love when opening presents – I do not enjoy shopping for said presents!! How about you – love shopping or hate it? (I do enjoy fabric shopping)
So by time we got home I was ready to put on my audio book and work on hexies for a little bit!!
I did not pick up the knitting until a little while before I went to bed – it is going smoothly! now will I have enough yarn to finish it or will I need to try to order more?
This section of Butterflies in Flight was done on Monday night linking to Wednesday Wait Loss

When I did big Christmas shopping years ago, I always made a point to be finished before Thanksgiving so I wouldn’t have to deal with crowds. We no longer exchange gifts with our adult children, the grandchildren receive gifts of money. This makes life so much easier at Christmas.
I like to shop, but we don’t have that many places to shop around here. Our local bookstore moved into cramped, much smaller quarters and is rarely open. They never had what I wanted even before they moved. When I drive to the big bookstore, I’m overwhelmed and can’t make a decision. So I’ve done most of my shopping online for books for family for Christmas. And made things, including jams, knitted items, mug rugs, etc. I do like handmade gifts myself. We haven’t been on many trips in the last few years, but I often find things when we’re traveling that I set aside for Christmas gifts. This year it’s funny boxes of bandaids (like “Shakespeare insults”).
I did a lot of shopping online this year for young grandchildren and we limited the number of gifts. The older grand children preferred checks and our children got one family gift-engraved cooking knives that we have been buying for them over the years. I am not a fan of shopping so this has made the season much more pleasant for us.
Happy holidays, we are hunkered down for the “big storm” headed our way in Michigan.
Like you I do not like shopping for presents (or for clothes or shoes either) but fabric and yarn shopping are a different matter altogether- they are really enjoyable. We are a small family and the grandchildren prefer money now they are older so thankfully there’s not a lot of presents to buy these days. Happy Christmas to you and your family.
I don’t mind online shopping, but I’m not a fan of leaving the house to shop unless it’s for fabric. 😀 At least you got it done! And now you have me wanting to knit.
I like to see the decorations in the stores, hear the music, and just enjoy the seasons sights and sounds. I don’t enjoy standing in lines. But I do wish I had people to shop for. With only one very elderly family member left, we sent flowers. No shopping. A few online orders for my husband and it is done. A let-down, really. Cherish the fact that you have loved ones to exchange gifts with.
I do most of my shopping online these days. I miss the old days of going out to shop for presents, but I’m sure I would tire out quickly these days!
We only get gifts for the three grandkids anymore, so lots of stress gone. But there is still stress in figuring out what to get the two boys, 9 and 11. This year the 11 year old hasn’t given any ideas. Still don’t have a gift for him! I don’t mind shopping if I know what to get. But aside from that I agree fabric shopping is still fun, no other shopping is!
I’m not much of a shopper anymore either. The crowded stores at this time of year really keep me away. Fortunately, we don’t exchange gifts with very many people anymore – just something for our kids and my mom. It’s too bad your lunch spot had closed down, too – did you eat somewhere else? Glad you could get home and still have time for some sewing and knitting to relax with!
The older I get the less I like to shop except for the new little ones in our family. I work retail and I will say that I’ve had very few cranky customers this year which to me is a blessing. Sorry to hear the restaurant was closed. We have a Red Robin in the town south of us, so once in awhile we’ll stop in there too. Day off today, so it’s a cookie baking day. I hope you can relax today and enjoy some sewing or knitting.
Oh my your quilting stitches are so tiny and perfect! Butterflies in Flight is going to be gorgeous! Merry Christmas and thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss, my weekly show and tell linkup.
Your opening paragraph made me smile. It could have been me writing it. Hopefully you can now enjoy the rest of the season.
A curiosity about your knitting – it looks to me from photos that perhaps you are twisting your stitches (all of them) when knitting. Maybe the photos are misleading me, but maybe you’re twisting them? That’s a common occurrence for people knitting their early projects. And you might know and like it that way, which is great! There’s nothing wrong or “bad” about it, it just might cause issues following certain patterns if you aren’t aware you’re doing it.
Just wanted to mention it in case you hit a roadblock and aren’t sure why!
Luckily I had the family Christmas gifts ready early, several of them hand made. Not too many to find gifts for, just my daughter and her family, our parents are no longer around. My son is a real Christmas grinch, doesn’t do Christmas at all. What I really hate is grocery shopping this time of year, went yesterday for a few perishables and such a crowd everywhere. Everyone goes crazy, dont they.
Have a wonderful Christmas with your family.
The scarf is looking beautiful and, to answer your question, I abhor all shopping aside from the online variety. I’d rather shop for gifts than clothes but I don’t really like any of it.
You have a ton of great projects to work on. Better your time spent on those than shopping!
