It was a very busy day yesterday. I was working on Rainbow Crossings and I decided to get the boxes of Christmas stuff in the house after all – I was going to wait but I felt that if they were in the house I would get busy.
I had one more block to go but decided I needed to change up color – I decided the yellow orange – the second from the right – wasn’t right – it should be a pink one there to have the color flow better. Then I decided that one didn’t need to go but the second purple instead and move the yellow blocks down. I plan today to make that last block and sew the last row. Then after it is pressed I will work on a border and maybe some of the left over blocks will be put in the border. Linking to SoScrappy — Patchwork & Quilting —
So I took that one out – so a new pink block will be made today to fill in the blank spot. Overall there are some more blocks here and there that I wish I had done differently but with all the other rows put together I am not changing them now. So they stay were they are
I will do that last block tomorrow. On to Noriko’s Star – I didn’t get a lot done but every little bit helps. When I get done with this large section I need to sketch it all out before I attach it to the body so I will have the design ready for when I make another.
Quilting on Butterflies in Flight from Thursday night – I didn’t get as much done as usual – moving slower!
Christmas boxes all over the place and hope to get this mess done by Sunday night and all boxes back out to where they are stored.
I got a little out – just the cookie jar and mugs. The cookie jar was a Christmas gift from my parents back in the 1980’s when the girls were small – they loved it it has a few nicks in it from over the years and doesn’t seal tight but use it for decoration now.
I haven’t seen much of any new sales going on lately but if you check the affiliates on the side bar you might find some – flash sales are going on every day at some of them. I went and ordered a new pattern that I really probably do not need but I love it – I had made a wall hanging something like it some time back – but love Wendy Williams and wanted to go by her pattern next time – I will share it when I get it. That will make two of her patterns to make now – next year?

I fell down the rabbit hole recently and ordered a couple of patterns. Who knows when I’ll get to them? I have at least 10 waiting now! And I really like to do my own thing anyway.
Your house looks so pretty and cozy, even with the boxes. Like you I know if they are sitting around I will get them done, but actually getting them out of the shed – well we haven’t done that yet.
I like your house! All the wood is so cozy and warm looking. You’ve done the biggest part, getting the containers inside. Pick what you want and let the rest stay in containers. That’s what I did this year! Ha!
Dear Karen,
This year we have noticed so many Christmas trees up much earlier than normal. People enjoy their trees and want to bring lots of cheer and happiness all round. We put ours up last week and did all the decorating. The outside lights have not been put up and it will happen soon. We unpack all the pieces and the doors open and we are flooded by beautiful memories as we touch and unpack each and every piece. Enjoy your decorating and have lots of fun.
Figuring out the layout for a rainbow quilt can require some finagling! If I move one block, it ends up meaning I’ve messed up another one somewhere. Glad you’re getting this one the way you want it. What a sweet Santa cookie jar! That does look like something special to get out every year. Have fun with your Christmas decorating today. I think I’ll get my tree up this afternoon.
enjoy your decorating over the next few days. I have not got anything out yet but will soon. Only one block to go for your RSC quilt! it’s looking great!
Your adjustments on block placement on the bottom row is better. But I really like the layout for the rest of it as you have it. Have fun with the decorating! Nice memory of the cookie jar.
You got your boxes out, good for you! I’ll likely wait until after my birthday next week, that was always the tradition when I was growing up, and hubs likes to keep it going. Cute cookie jar with loads of memories, I’m sure. Your quilt projects are coming along nicely!
Oh wow! Rainbow Crossings is just gorgeous!
That is a lot of decorating! Mine is spread over two places, but still is pretty minimal. My husband doesn’t go for a lot, so we keep it minimal; and we are gone for Christmas if it is not a covid year! You are right about the pink block, but you are so close. Congrats on getting this beauty together. The hand piecing will pick up in between, once the flurry of the season calms down. It sure does ebb and flow for me…
Rainbow Crossings is incredibly beautiful, Karen! Oh my goodness, what a gorgeous quilt this is going to be! My Christmas decorating includes cookie jars, too. I have two Christmas jars and a dozen jars or so (I collect cute old vintage cookie jars) that I keep out all year. Have fun with the decorating!
That quilt top is SEW lovely, Karen! Best of luck with the holiday decorating.
Rainbow Crossings is coming together very nicely. I’m partial to blended blocks and secondary patterns. Your quilt has both.
I haven’t decorated in the last 3 years, because we are not at home. It’s a tiny bit sad. A real tree will go up next weekend at our son’s home. That will be Christmasy! Not lot’s of decorations here, he is a minimalist. But his outside environment is like a Christmas card. Tonight we will attend a town Christmas tree lighting and Christmas stroll. That will be fun..
Theres nothing wrong with having “Christmas boxes all over the place”. They are full of interesting things waiting to be rediscovered. How nice to have the cookie jar gift from all those years ago.
A FB friend blogged about her Tall Christmas Tree quilt and shared the designer’s website. It was out of stock, but my friend had some extras and I bought it from her. It’s a definite yes to make it for next year.
I really like the color flow on your Rainbow Crossings, it really is beautiful!
We just finished up our decorating. It is all done and I even did some sorting!
I do love the coziness and joy of the holiday season.
Stay safe and sew on !
Your Christmas decorations look great. Cables aren’t all that hard – throw some stitches on the cable holder and follow the directions. I used to knit a lot but now it’s mostly quilting. We have done most of our decorating (and most of it was done by hubby.) He does a good job.
