I really wish it would completely warm up a bit so I can sit on the porch in comfort (deep shade and 70 degrees feels like mid 60’s to me with how breezy it has been) and get some progress on the hexies. In the day time I just don’t sit and stitch all that much – right now with having the walking boot off finally and getting used to regular walking by doing just every day chores is exhausting. Why is it that with a little aging if you have an injury it seems to take your strength away quickly? A month of no walking on the treadmill or parks and 5,000 steps a day is exhausting when a month ago I was doing 12,000 on a regular basis! I will need to work my way up gradually.
I have one more row left to sew on the hexies and then stitch half of those rows together
One more Hunter’s Star block made
And added to the wall. I can fit one more across on the wall and then will need to lay them on the floor to get layout colors how I wish. Linking to Wednesday Wait Loss and Midweek Makers
Quilting from Court Jester on Monday night
New flowers in the garden this one is in the onion family and is called Giant Allium there should be two of them as I planted two bulbs but so far only one.
I forgot to stake these or didn’t get to it because of my foot a couple weeks ago I should say so they are laying almost on the ground – these are a type of gladiolus– it goes by the name “common corn-flag Gladioli or Whistling Jack two of the names it list on the plant finder.
I spent a little time yesterday going around spraying poison ivy and the very over grown honeysuckle so it doesn’t take over the yard – I don’t mind a little honeysuckle but this was too much.
I think I have gone through most of the quilt photos from the show I know I missed some but from posting day to day on Instagram and here I think I will start to repeat myself so moving on to other things. Here is a link to the American Quilter’s Society for a list of the winners and a few photos if you want to explore more. I don’t know if some of you who have been to Paducah have noticed a tiny town next door called Metropolis? Well we all know Metropolis is the home of Superman right? LOL they have superman memorabilia scattered though out town and of course his imagine here and there. It was raining so not much going on in this tiny town with all the people in Paducah. We just stopped to get some photos on our round about way to find a place for supper later in the day. We had actually been lucky enough to get a hotel room in Paducah but it was an older place and will remember that if we go again – it was starting to get a bit run down but it beat driving 50 miles from hotel to convention center like I have done several other years. (I told Mike that when we plan to stay in a hotel in the future maybe we need to think about packing a light weight bag with decent towels that are bigger than a dish towel (ok exaggeration) and some drinking glasses. I think they ran out of their usual and someone ran to the grocery store and picked up plastic coke cups that you normally see at picnics!)
And a phone booth (minus the phone!) Just thought this was cute to share.

That Superman town sounds like fun. It’s interesting how some towns just latch onto an oddity to capitalize on. We enjoyed the mustard museum in Middleton, Wis., but how much can you say about mustard??
I always travel with pillows, sheets and towels when we drive anywhere now. Last summer, going through Michigan, we needed to dip into them a few times. One place forgot to put pillow cases on! I also bring Clorox wipes with me and had to wipe all the surfaces before using! We didn’t have these problems on our recent trip to NC and back, though, so I guess more people are being hired again.
Your allium and gladiolus are beautiful! The weather is sunny but cool here as well. We really are hovering in the low 60’s. It can be okay for gardening, but not so much just sitting. I’m glad the walking boot is off. It is amazing how much an injury can take out of a person, and yes, it gets worse as we age.
I didn’t know about the superman town when we were in Paducah, maybe another time. Your green block is really a pretty one. It has been really windy here lately, as I sit in the sewing room I hear the wind howling in the trees. It is supposed to be less today-we have sunshine, yay!!
That’s a pretty green for your next HS block! We’re having nice temperatures in the 60s and 70s, but sometimes the wind does blow, and that definitely changes the “feels like” temperature. I’m sorry your energy is taking its time coming back – that can be so frustrating! Hopefully, you’ll work your way back up to what you’re used to being able to do. The Superman theme in Metropolis is funny, and must have been fun to see!
I took a bus trip to Paducah a few years ago. We stayed in a huge but run down motel in Metropolis (the new owners were trying hard). We ate dinner at the small casino next door.
One late afternoon we walked over to see Superman, Lois and the boy statues, take pictures and tour the small museum. There’s not much to the town but the people were friendly.
Metropolis is in Illinois but it’s a lot closer and easier to get to the show than many of the hotels in KY.
Your Hunter STar blocks are looking so great!!
and yay for being out of the boot… it will get better…
Superman!! okay that is just too cool!!
So happy that boot is off. I once sprained an ankle and used a wheel chair to get around at a conference I had to attend. Every night I felt exhausted though the pain was light. And I was in my 40’s then. I think the body is telling us to rest when that happens, but you are right, I think we are more vulnerable the older we get. Thanks for sharing photos. Your Hunter’s Star is spectacular, Karen.
It’s in the 50’s here — any thought of sitting outside is just a dream. Glad you enjoyed the trip to Paducah. I agree about hotel towels! Your Hunter’s Star is a wonderful rainbow.
Fun pics, you have a lot of nice pops of color around your yard. I know what you mean about the hotel towels. Lol I hope you can get back to your walking soon.
We stayed in Metropolis one year that we went to the Paducah show. Your photos bring back memories of it.
Your Hunter star blocks are so precise! The Superman town sounds like a lot of fun. I’ve been to Paducah before, but never during the quilt show. Thank you for sharing the photos, it was fun to see the nonwinners.
How fun! Your trip looks like it was very successful. Love all your projects! That Hunter’s Star is going to be so gorgeous. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.
I didn’t know about Superman’s home town. That must have been a fun place to wander through.
Karen,
We always stay at the state camping park in Metroplis. Its a state park.
It is very nice. You might want to do that next trip to quilt week.
I think you have to call a long time in advance that week.
Love your pictures,
Thanks Jeanne
