Stars and Hexagons

I completely  forgot to take a photo of the wall after I had finished all the Hunter’s Star blocks – I had to put two rows on the floor and needed to pick them up as Jessica was on her way over with  Honey who sometimes roams the house and I didn’t want quilt blocks on the floor.  I’m not used to a dog in the house often as Melanie usually leaves her dog home as she is kind of rambunctious and sheds a lot. I usually see Marcy at the parks – Honey is totally different when by herself – kind of quite and doesn’t shed.

So here they are all stacked up and numbered – rows pinned and tagged.  I hope to start to sew rows together today and will put back on the wall as I make progress.

Also seeing as the wall was temporarily empty I thought it was a good chance to get a photo of the hexies not on the floor to show the size and how it looks.  Two of the triangle sections are pinned to the wall.  I have five more to make and I thought I better check to see how many more pieces need to be cut as I knew I didn’t have enough after I had thought I did.  I had started to count them a couple weeks ago and thought oh no – I was going to need more blue, green and gold.  I found enough of the left over bits for the green and blue but not the gold – I did have a couple scraps left that are more gray then gold ( print) and I need 23 more pieces!  Linking to the Inquiring Quilter for Wednesday Wait Loss #329Quilt Fabrication’s Midweek Makers #385My Quilt Infatuation

I will be able to fussy cut a few hexies here and there out of the scraps but also found these two pieces that I can scatter about in the remaining 5 triangles that I need and no one eventually will notice that 7 of the triangles do not have those pieces in them.  The piece on the left for sure will go ok cutting out the darker stripe area – the other one is a little more brown but a piece here or there will work.

Oh my…..that hexie quilt is gorgeous! What is the finished size you are going for because the picture makes it look huge! Can’t wait to see this one on the frame and bed!!! My hubby couldn’t believe it and the single pieces in it when I just showed him the picture! Beautiful, Karen!!!

I’m looking forward to seeing your Hunter’s Stars laid out. My jaw dropped last night when I saw your hexies on IG – quite impressive. It’s interesting to see it and how all those parts look together. I read your last post about walking with Jessica and Honey – did your foot do OK? Jessica looks like a cutie – hope she is doing well.

That stack of HS blocks looks very appealing, and is going to make a beautiful quilt! It’s so great that you have them all made. Fun to see Noriko’s Star up on the design wall, too! I bet those new fabrics you’ve found for the gold will blend right in.

Oh goodness! The hexie quilt is ah-mazing!! There’s a hashtag on Instagram called #rememberwhatyourhandscando , where people highlight handstitched items. You definitely should use it and show this beauty off!

Love Noriko’s Star! So pretty. Really enjoyed seeing it up on the wall in all it’s glory. So sorry about running out of gold but it looks like you can blend things in. I might consider taking that single gold hexie off the diamonds you’ve shown to mix them into the remaining 23 places and put the substitute gold in their place. In any case, as you say no one will notice once everything is put together. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

The hexie quilt project – wow! That’s all I can say!

Estimating how much fabric you need for this kind of project is really difficult. It it looking great and the end is in sight.

Noriko’s Star is breathtaking! I pulled fabrics to cut for the green star. And I basted the blue one in prep for quilting, but still need to mark the quilting lines. Also toying with the idea of adding more quilting than I did initially.

What a great feeling it must be to have finished those Hunters Star blocks, that’s a whole lot of piecing! How your daughter has a nice peaceful stay with you while she works on her future plans. This will not be an easy time for her, but you and hubby are there for her.

Have you counted how many it will take? And worth it – so gorgrous. Most of my quilts are “fur blend” as our dog “shares” her fur with all my stuff. Would’t have it any other way though. Kind of my tester! Thanks for sharing

WOW! How are you going to pin it to the design wall when it outgrows the space? LOL. It’s a beauty.
