The last row of blocks for Hunter’s Star was put together –
Rows are folded in half a number for the row on the first block to the left added
And three rows now up on the wall attached – I will work more on it today – I have nothing on the floor stacked up now in front of the design wall so can make use of it again. Linking to Wendy’s Quilts and More — Michelle’s Traffic Jam Weekend
The last two rows of this segment of Noriko’s Star are done and ready to be attached
This area of Court Jester was worked on Wednesday night
I have been picking a little of the black raspberries and blackberries the last couple days – they are ripening fast but I am immediately washing them and freezing in a label bag for each as I am really curious to see how much I end up getting in this little garden – are they worth it or use it next year for more strawberries? The strawberries ended up with over 2 gallons from the space I have – if I changed it over to all strawberries it would be more – for instance if I only get one pint of black raspberries is it really worth devoting one raised bed to them? I do not have a fenced in area for more and Mike will not be interested in building more area for me! I actually am limited in how much area I can use because of sunlight and trees.

I do love hunters star! I think raspberries and blueberries freeze better than strawberries but I’m not sure how you use your frozen strawberries? Soft fruit is mega expensive in the UK, but then again all food is at the moment!
To answer Sarah above, we use frozen strawberries for smoothies and margaritas – lol! Your strawberries looked amazing – good luck with your decision. I know you’re happy to have your design wall back – Hunter’s Star is looking pretty amazing.
I totally get what you are saying about blackberry yields versus strawberry yields. I would definitely vote for strawberries, as I’m not a blackberry fan. Ha! Your sewing progress is definitely showing. It all looks so pretty!
Great progress on Hunter’s Star! I’m sure it’s a good feeling to be back to normal with your sewing room! I’ve never tasted a homegrown/freshly picked blackberry, but I know the strawberries and raspberries are sure good that way. I suppose what you do with that space depends on what you would use the blackberries or strawberries for.
It’s amazing how much trial and error goes on in the garden. I am at this point with so many things. Garden-wise. There is one little flower bed off by itself in the middle of the lawn. There were two scrawny rose bushes and Iris in it that never bloomed (we moved those last Fall). I am thinking I need to do a soil test. The Lily bulbs I put in it just look miserable.
Michelle, check to see if your iris root, the fat bulgy part, is buried in the soil. If so, then dig it up and replant it so this part is exposed. Bearded iris won’t bloom without direct sun on their “feet”.
My hunter’s star came back from the quilter last week but I’ve been otherwise occupied. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess. I will probably put it into the closet and wait to bind it until after I do a few more Dear Jane blocks. I need to figure out some binding for it. Probably, it will be gray because I used a variety of gray backgrounds.
If you like multi-berry desserts it might be worth keeping the black raspberries and blackberries in that raised bed.
It must have been so wonderful to sit with your hexies and stitch after having such good results at the doctor’s. I’m very happy to read about that…your treatment is working well! Modern medicine!
Meanwhile, these Hunter’s Stars are so wonderful! They are also colourful.
Everything looks so wonderful – you are amazing!
Your Hunters Star blocks are coming along so well. It will be interesting to see just how much the other berries produce, compared to your strawberries then you will have to decide what to do with them. Decisions, decisions!
PS. We have a strawberry grower near to us, and in the season we buy a lot of strawberries. Half we enjoy fresh and the rest get cut up and frozen. I lightly poach frozen strawberries and we enjoy them with our breakfast cereal when fresh are no longer available.
Your Hunter’s Star quilt is looking great! I’m no help with the berries – I’m not much of a gardener, mainly because we have very little area that we could use for a garden. We have too much shade in our yard.
I really admire the work you have done on your EPP project. I don’t think I could keep it straight.
