Nine blocks of the 54 needed for New York Beauty are done. This one was another fairly easy block to do. I spent yesterday morning working on it and then was going to work on the garden in the afternoon but the ground is getting so dry and hard I needed to water it before I could dig anymore strawberry runners out – we just have not had much rain at all since July I think and we need it a lot. I shouldn’t have to be watering the berries at this time of year. I just used the hose and hand held sprayer close to the plants putting it just on the ground by the plants and not the whole area – we will see how it is later today for getting the runners out. We are very dry and pretty much in a drought this year – had a rainy spring and early summer and then barely anything. We get an inch or less every now and then but not much. It is back to the warm weather for the past 5 days and will go back to cooler soon and maybe rain they say.
Block number 9 is called Galah
The Australian Galah – isn’t this a neat looking creature!
Next up
Fabric is picked out and I hope to get started on it today.
I don’t judge the size pieces I need really well for some of the cuts so I have started to measure the leftover scraps as I push them over on the table to discard – if I can get a 1.5” square to add to the box of scraps they get cut – smaller and it is trashed
The view on the wall. Since I got the new computer the photos on the screen look a little yellow tinged to me – do they on yours?
A little stitching on Noriko’s Star — linking today to Patchwork & Quilting —
Quilting on Thursday night on Arkansas Traveler and it was ready to be rolled down again.
For whoever purchased a fairly good sized purchase from Accuquilt the other day thank you very much for going though my site – I do appreciate it. I never see who makes the purchases that is private info, I just see my commission.

In Australia, calling someone a Galah, is a derogatory term – meaning they are stupid. I’ve always hated the way Galahs are maligned like that as they are gorgeous birds and one of my favourites. They congregate in large flocks and are beautiful when they take off into the sky, screeching as they go.
I love the blues in your new block! Your photos look great to me.
It’s really dry here, too, which is not unusual for us, but we could definitely use some moisture! Your newest block looks great – you’re cruising right along on those. I do see the yellow tint in your design wall photo. I have the same problem with indoor photos. I often wonder if it’s the type of light bulbs we have installed in a particular light fixture. If you’re noticing a change since you got the new computer, maybe that is the reason.
Oh that block is a beauty! (And so is the Australian Gallah.) I love the colors in the block. I’m not sure about the color tinge from your new computer. If it is different, it’s not glaringly so on my end.
We are short on rain too. We have been getting some rain along, but apparently not in normal quantities. We are down 9 inches for the year (out of a norm of 44 inches).
Your design wall doesn’t look as white in the photo with the blocks as it usually does. I have one computer where the photos all have a tint of beige to them and on my other computer the photos are nice and bright. Check the photo on your husband’s computer side by side with yours. I have many different types of bulbs in my house and some really distort the color so I try to avoid doing my photography under them.
Karen, your NYB blocks are amazing!!! The fabrics you have chosen are great, giving such good contrast to make those crisp points really shine. This is going to be a great quilt, and I am enjoying following along on your progress. At the rate you are going, you may finish this top before the year is done. Thanks so much for sharing!
Very pretty blues, reds and purples in your latest block. The only photo that looks a bit yellow is the one of the NYB blocks up on the design wall, the other photos look fine.
Cute bird, and lovely block! I totally agree with Sandra about your fabrics choice and sharp points, your blocks are gorgeous. Like the others, I see the design wall photo a little bit yellow, but it may be the light as the left of the photo is more white. Great progress on Noriko and Arkanses too!
Thank you for sharing, I love watching your progress!
This quilt is really stunning. I have seen these in shops and photos and always gasp. Yours is no exception. I still am not convinced to make one, but your process photos certainly show that it is doable. My motto: How to eat an elephant: One bite at a time. When you show the steps, it could be my “elephant.” Thanks.
Ooh, I love the dark purple diamond in the middle of the block. You are making me want to make these blocks!
