Decorating Done!

Well instead of getting much of anything done in the sewing room Christmas decorating was done instead.  I did get a few more hexies thread basted, a book finished and quilting in the evening like usual.

I thought I would share my Christmas quilting decorations with you today – many of you have seen this one before I made it back in 2009 – I believe the name of it was Christmas Baltimore Album – I don’t think the company/designer that produced the pattern is in business any longer – I might still have the pattern somewhere unless someone had asked me for it.  It is just a little long for the space but not much hidden behind the couch.

This wall hanging is older – I made it in 2002 – it was a kit that my girls bought for me for a Xmas present the year before – at one point about 5 years ago I think I got fed up with how uneven of one of the sides was and cut it down to  straighten it out – what satisfied me back then was something I could no longer stand to look at LOL – it still looks crooked but the hanger is normally holding something smaller and isn’t quite wide enough for this

I love the quilt on the table – that one is rather new I made it about 3 years ago I think – the pattern is available from Lynn at Sew’n Wild Oaks the pattern is called Country Charmer.  The small wall hanging on the wall is a Feathered Star with a cardinal in the middle – the pattern was in a magazine years ago.  Linking to Melva Loves Scraps for the Monday link up and Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, Monday Musings —

Here is a close up of it

And then here is a quilt ladder by the Xmas tree – from the top a red and pale yellow batik Dear Jane from about 15 years ago maybe?, next is Alaska pattern by Ediyta Sitar at Laundry Basket quilts, and the bottom quilt is a traditional red and green applique – this quilt was a combination of patterns from two books –I’m sorry I don’t have the names of them handy.  The little quilt on the table is reverse applique with the patterns from an old book called Dutch Treat, that one too must be 15 years old or so.  Several of the boxes under the tree are from gifts that I gave to my mother over the years and after she died I found them in her closet and took them home and display them in memories of her.  She loved those boxes as much as the homemade cookies that were inside of them!

My tree is a mess of old ornaments and some wildlife type of ornaments – and some hand made from over the year – I just hold on to the ones I like

IMG_2594

This one is a cross stitch Melanie made me and the red/black plaid was from a sweater of my fathers – after he died she asked her grandma if she could have his winter sweater and she said yes – she wore it for a bit and then she ended up making a tote bag with it and used a bit for this stuffed ornament for the tree in memory of her grandpa.

Here is the bag – she found a photo for me – she wasn’t sure where the bag was this was from some years ago.

No photo description available.

So there is the tour of my Xmas decorations – I keep saying I need to down size and not put up so much and each year I end up doing the same!

Lovely memories. I have hung our stockings and a wreath on the front door. That’s probably all I’ll do this year.

Your holiday quilts are pretty spectacular. I remember you working on a few of those. I have some holiday quilts, but no way to display them, I should remedy that for next year. Enjoy the season and happy stitching this week.

What a fun peek inside your beautiful house! I love your quilts and how they are part of your decorations. That sweater story is so sweet. Makes me wish I had thought to ask Mom for some of Daddy’s shirts when he died in 1982, but I had no interest in quilting back then. Thanks for sharing your pretties! We hope to get a few things up today – just decorations, no tree (for the first time ever.)

Your Christmas quilts are beautiful, Karen! I love how the one on your dining room table fits it so perfectly. Getting out the quilted things and putting up the tree are my favorite decorations of the season! Our tree is like yours – lots of family ornaments that we’ve gotten here and there through the years.

So many lovely decoration, Karen! I love all of your quilts. Your house is looking so Christmasy now. Sweet decoration from Melanie. Nice that you kept those Christmas boxes that were your mothers.

I’m very grateful that you did not choose this year to scale back your decorating! I really enjoyed this refresher on your Christmas quilts.

Looking very festive at your house, thank you for sharing! I really love the quilt on the table.

Love seeing all your decorations. I still haven’t done mine…but today will be the day. I confused my dentist appointment and couldn’t get there on time due to ferry schedules (now not till February) so the day opened up. When hubs is walking, I will decorate! At the cottage, it is small, but I like to do it. I miss our tree, next year it will be here – or even next weekend – when we bring it up from the apartment. I look forward to seeing it all after not doing it for a few years! Because we always travel, it is fake and it works just fine for us.

Lovely to see your Christmas decorations. So many pretty quilts. I have come so close to buying the pattern for the Country Charmer quilt on Etsy. I have so many Christmas quilt patterns I want to make…someday…and at least one almost done. The best part of decorating for me is all the memories…even the pieces that are not handmade have memories.

Your house looks very nice with all of your creations sprinkled around. I love the table quilt too. It’s like a quilt show, an airing of the seasonal quilts before they get refolded and put away.

Your home is absolutely charming!! Decorating with quilts really makes a house look welcoming. I wouldn’t call your tree a “mess” of ornaments – but rather a wonderful collection. My tree is also a mish mash of old and new, handmade and store bought – and I love them all.

Love seeing all your beautiful quilts displayed in your home. I have only one Christmas quilt. But many wall hangings, table covers, and mug rugs & coaster that I hang for Christmas. A quilt ladder is definitely on my list!

Beautiful Christmas quilts! You have so many wonderful quilts. The red bag and ornament are so special. What a great way to use his sweater. Your home definitely looks Christmas ready!

    Everything looks beautiful!

Everything is so lovely Karen. We don’t do much decorating anymore. No one comes over, we go out to their houses so it’s not a big deal. I do bake though! Starting that in a day or so. Enjoy your festive home!!
